On entering the BC resort area I was excited to hear at the gate entrance that in we were staying at the best hotel (The Pines Lodge) and that its restaurant, Grouse Mountain Grill was excellent. The hotel exceeded our expectations but the restaurant was dissapointing. We were seated immediately and our hostess was extremely cordial, but unfortunately for us we ended up with a sulky and rude waiter. As other reviewers have commented, the wines are very expensive (our was $17/glass). To make sure we ordered a wine to our liking, we asked to taste one pinot grigio and one riesling. Our waiter almost balked at this request but reluctantly brought our selections out, but mixed up which wine was which! We ordered what we thought was a surprisingly dry riesling and after the first very sweet sip we immediately realized that the wines had gotten switched. We informed our hostess and she said that they would be happy to bring out the right wine and that we may keep the glasses that were brought out by mistake. When the waiter was informed of HIS mistake, he looked insulted and even rolled his eyes! He then preceded to remove our glasses, though he heard what the hostess had told us, and brought out the correct wine. From that point on he did not have a hand in bringing anything else to our table (bread, appetizers, meals and dessert were all brought by other employees, who were all very agreeable). This waiter has no idea of what 4-star service is and shouldn't be working in such a nice restaurant! The food was good but I think overhyped. Here is the list of the food we ordered (4 stars are delicious dishes and highly recommended:
