Really bad experience. Bad service, bad food, lack of any owner supervision. Maybe they get by on their pizza for a reputation, otherwise I don't get the positive reviews at all. \r \r Hardly authentic Italian, these kinds of restaurants give other Italian restaurants a bad name. more

My favorite italian place in Moorpark, and have been eating there for over 15 years. Really great home style italian. Recommend the Salsiccia Italiana (sp?, italian sausage dish) as well as the fried mozzarella as an appetizer. Pros: Best Bread Ever Cons: Little Rundown more

My first visit to Grotta Azzurra was several years ago when my in-laws treated me to a birthday luncheon. Today my experience was pretty much the same only for Dinner service. A warm welcome from the owner and efficient service from the waitress. The restaurant is decorated in warm tones with a beautiful ceiling. Pasta and Pizza seems to be the specialty, as I gather from glancing at the other tables. The sauces and toppings are good portions, but I do enjoy their salads especially the antipasto grotta style. Based on prices, I would recommend going here for dinner or lunch...affordable and comprable to the area. There is even a dinner special for 4 which I plan on trying next time. We will be back soon and plan to visit more frequently, maybe we'll bring more people and try their huge 28 inch pizza!! Pros: Curteous Service, Great for Families, Hot Bread! Look no further..I have stumbled upon this adorable little Italian restaurant located away from the main strip but in a cozy residential area in Moorpark...GROTTA AZZURRA. I cant believe I've lived in Moorpark for 10 years and then I move to Camarillo and find it. The best part is its family owned and they all work there. Great food, portions and prices...bread is amazing...you must take some togo!! The 28 inch pizza is an experience! I will be back...service was the best i've ever had...Samantha was great!! Very friendly and attentive! Wine list is small but you can bring your own (corkage fee is only like $9)...had the Ruffino Chianti great price!! This place is romantic but kid friendly too. When we were there they had a wait and large parties but our service nor food didn't suffer. I loved every aspect!! Decor is Beautiful. You must come and try it for yourself...maybe i'll see you there. We will be making this our date spot from now on. Lasagna is to die for...and save room for Gelato (great flavor selections)! Unless your waitress is Christina, then opt for a different restaurant or wait till a table opens in Christina's section. The new waitress is extremely slow and snobby, and the restaurant was not even busy...3 tables maximum, including ours, yet our waitress did not even come back once to refill our drinks. I asked for my salad dressing to be mixed in with my salad, but the waitress argued with me that she couldn't do it. What kind of restaurant refuses a request as simple as mixing salad dressing into a salad? We were also rudely chased out of the restaurant, but if she would have picked up our credit cards that were sitting on the table for 10 minutes then maybe we would have left earlier. I've been to Grotta Azzurra on numerous occasions by recommendations of co-workers for lunch. First impression of the restaurant is that it is dated with somewhat antiquated furnishings. If I remember correctly, the table cloths were made of plastic with the red and white checker box pattern. The menu is simple, however, the dishes didn't excite me as I would have had at a restaurant with a chef with classical training in the kitchen. The meat sauces on the pasta dishes are somewhat bland and the presentation of the food isn't something to brag about. Of the dishes I've had, I would have to say the Eggplant Parmigiana is top of my list. However, the price can't be beat for the type of food served (the typical fare of pasta dishes). I went to Grotta Azzurra expecting nothing but great food. My friends had been raving about it and I decided to check it out for myself. I've got to say that they have the BEST ITALIAN FOOD EVER! The ambiance was splendid and our server was extremely nice to us, not only was the food wonderful but the service and the atmoshpere made my experience terrific. This restaurant is a must- I love this place and I would reccommend it to everyone! I would suggest trying their Joe's Special Pizza or their Chicken Parmigiana...EXCELLENT!
