Grill Hacienda Del Sol

Had what I was hoping to be a special birthday double birthday dinner last night. The service was terrible, the menu very limited, the cost way too much for what you received and the wine was priced way too high. I had indicated on my reservation that this was to be a birthday & requested some sort of cupcake or some sort of something. I also called & left 2 messages to confirm, no return calls. The locale is lovely, but I am very disappointed and probably will not return - sorry! Oh, by the way having been raised in San Francisco I do know good from substandard. more

We ate at The Grill at Hacienda Del Sol on a Saturday night during Restaurant Week. It was superb! The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding. The food rivaled anything I have had in the best New York City restaurants. The portions were just right. The setting, even more beautiful than I remember it from my last visit. Another stand out was the piano player. Oh, and I can't forget the unusual drink options. more

My husband and I were in Tucson for a conference which happened to overlap with our 5th Wedding Anniversary. I found The Grill on CitySearch, and because of the excellent reviews, made a reservation. The location is lovely, the atmosphere and decor beyond reproach. However, the food was only average. I ordered the foie gras appetizer, which was very thin and overcooked ($17). My husband ordered the scallops appetizer, which was essentially tasteless. The spinach salad was a little better. His arugula salad was really good. We both got the filet and substituted the sweet potato puree for the yukon gold puree. While it was good, it wasn't anything overwhelming. This restaurant is merely ""good"" as far as the food goes, but you're really just paying a lot of money for the atmosphere and the service. Visitors to Tucson MUST findt his spot and reserve a table for around sunset. This former girls school offers a spectacular setting, impeccable service, and darn good food. If you miss sunset then relax outside at the grill where on cool nights there is a kiva fire and live music to keep you warm under the stars. The Dining romm is pricey but well worth it considering the service and ambience. Treat yourself and go! Very nice experience overall. Our favorite restaurant in Tucson on our short vacation. Watched the sun set in the main dining room. Great food and service. Hacienda Del Sol is by far the best place to eat in Tucson. The food, the wine, the ambience...it's all fabulous! I have dined there several times and have not once been even the slight bit disappointed. The wait staff is knowledgable and accomodating. The appetizers and desserts and fantastic too!!
