Starting 2009 on the right foot! 3/7/2009

I usually eat at Gridley's with my wife once every couple of months for the last few years. It's been a decent place but nothing to brag about. Enter 2009 and something magical is happening at Gridley's! I don't know if they are under new ownership or not, but things have improved 150%. While the service was always top notch, the food went from mediocre to superb. They have tweaked their menu by lowering their prices and adding some delicious items, like the Mojito Shrimp Salad. Although the menu does seem a bit overwhelming due to the amount of items on it (it would be nice if it were a seasonal menu with half the items it currently has), you're guaranteed to pick an item that is not only delicious, but filling as well! They recently began live entertainment and dancing on Fridays and Saturday evenings, and unfortunately we have not had the chance to attend. However, we have heard great things about that too and look forward to seeing what that is all about! Pros: Food, service, lounge Cons: Hard to get into, dining room lacks atmosphere more

Gridleys has some of the best entrees I have ever eaten! I tried the a fish called opah from Hawaii and it was one of the best fish I have ever had.I asked the server about it and he said that they get most of the fish served flown in daily from Hawaii what a refreshing change from most restaurants! I had such a nice experiance from start to finish and the service was outstanding. Pros: Every thing is made fresh.they have a smokehouse on the site so you know its fresh. Cons: none!!!!! more

Can it get any better than this? 5/28/2008

A restaurant is often rated on its performance during a dining experience. If everything goes perfect, it gets a great review. If one thing goes wrong, it's review is adversely affected. A restaurant should be rated not only on its ability to provide a perfect dining experience, but its ability to handle mishaps in a positive and enjoyable manner. I would like to recap my visit to Gridley's and tell you why it deserves 5 stars, regardless of a dining mishap.\r \r My wife and I had never been to Gridley's before, as we are new to the area. We decided to stop by on Saturday evening, right in the middle of Memorial Day weekend. We arrived at Gridley's and were greeted by a cheerful hostess and a young yet cheerful manager. The young man engaged us in a brief and welcoming conversation and proceeded in taking us to a cozy booth. Our server was a very polite girl who provided us with specials and a wine list.\r \r The atmosphere was quite pleasant and relaxing, and we did not get the feeling that we were being rushed. I ordered the tournado filets and my wife ordered the nut encrusted whitefish. Unfortunately, I had ordered the tournados medium and they were a bit on the rare side. I let my server know and she politely apologized and promised me she would get them refired for me. Within minutes we were approached by a manager (not the same one from the front desk, but a lady). She handled the situation in an extremely positive way. She apologized, offered me something for the time being, and even took the liberty in taking our drink order. We were engaged in conversation when the filets arrived at the table. This time they were cooked just right. The manager offered us dessert on the house and left us with a smile on our faces.\r \r The food was delicious and the dessert was astounding. Gridley's is a place that provides the perfect dining experience. It takes a professional and welcoming staff to provide such an experience, even when a mishap occurs. We'll be back! Pros: Excellent food, superb service, professional and welcoming Cons: Difficult entrance more

MOTHERS DAY DISASTER! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE 5/12/2008

Mothers Day Brunch - 10:30 Seating -> Stood in lobby with 200 people till 10:40 on cold Rainy day.\r Made reservation for 6 + 1 High chair 2 weeks prior -> Table had 5 chairs and NO HIGH CHAIR\r Asked host for High Chair -> Said he would get one.\r Asked host again for High Chair -> Told us her could get us a booster seat.. (My kid is 7 months old)\r My kid spills water on the table(because there is no high chair) -> Host tells my mother she cannot take the napkins from another table.\r Food was COLD - > My family was the first to eat and I waited 30 min before eating -> Food was cold throughout.\r Selection was bad -> NO omelete station -> No has bronwns -> No Scrambled Eggs -> Ran out of Shrimp.\r It was $26 per person! It should have been MUCH better and nicer.\r Tables were being charged 18% on a BUFFET BRUNCH! \r This place is a joke - Ive been there before for dinner and it was ok. \r I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE! I SUGGEST YOU BEWARE! Pros: N/A Cons: LIARS - RUDE - COLD FOOD more

Worst Dinner; ruined my evening. 4/18/2008

My husband and I dined their Friday evening. We should have been suspicious when the host staff was rude. But we like to give every place a fair shake. Bad idea. \r \r The steak my husband ordered; Filet Minion, tasted like eye of round with no flavor. The chicken I ordered was like rubber. The sides were greasy and inedible.\r \r We paid roughly $90.00 for food we sent back and where offered free desert.\r \r Food ? Had no flavor. \r Service ? Inattentive.\r Value ? None.\r \r Stay away. Pros: Lighting Cons: Food, Service, Value more

I don't know who their waiters were... 6/19/2006

Wow. I researched this place online before going, and despite the reviews on here, decided to give it a try. I don't know what restaurant the others went to, but it sure as heck wasn't Gridley's. I stepped in and was instantly greeted warmly by the hostess and the owner, and a ballon was presented to my three-year old. They gave us a big corner booth even though it was busier and we only had four people in the party, so that my daughter would have room to make her usual mess. Service was amazing. They asked if my daughter's food should be brought asap, OF COURSE, I've never had that asked before and am stunned at how thoughtful our waiter, Dave, was. We never ran low on rolls, soda, or wine. The portions were huge, and their smoked pork chops fell apart with the first touch of the knife. Everything was tender, perfectly cooked, and brought as requested. I couldn't have had a more wonderful dining experience in my life, and will now be returning to the restaurant on a weekly basis! Pros: Free Valet, Food, Service Cons: Loud, Busy more

One word: Abysmal 2/11/2006

You would have thought that a place like Gridley's would have great service and food. Surprise, it doesn't. The service was absolutely horrendous. I have not met an unfriendlier staff in my life. I'll take IHOP's service over Gridley's anyday. On top of that, for the price, the food sucks. Take your patronage elsewhere, this place doesn't deserve it. Pros: Ambiance, Location Cons: Service, Food more

Expected more from a restaurant in Long Grove 10/29/2005

Surrounded by BMWs and Lexus' in the parking lot, so expected great service at this place. NOT! Sunday afternoon, not too busy at all. Serive was horribly slow! Took forever to get a salad and a chicken wrap sandwich, which was brought out to us by someone other than our waitor. Waitor NEVER came to refill drinks (my diet coke sat empty as did my friends martini glass), and NEVER came back to see how our meal was. So, no tip for this waitor!! I've gotten better service at Baker's Square! Cons: Slow service, Bad Martinis more
