Will Not Return 5/27/2012

The owner came to our table near the end of our dining experience. He asked us how we liked the pie. We actually were not very happy with it and told him we had tried better but it would be fine for the night (and explained our reasoning). He then looked like he was going to pop a blood vessel in his neck and stormed away from the table. When we were ready to pay, we waited an extra twenty minutes for the waitress to come to our table to give us the check. Worst ?highly rated? restaurant in Georgia!! more

Saw owner chew out staff 9/23/2011

Terrible experience, why the positive reviews? Veggies trasted canned, fired chicken was greasy. Service unacceptable. Spoke to owner, I think he said his name was Bill. Not at all apologetic, very defensive. Said we we're crazy for saying his food wasn't great! Really? Then heard the owner chewing out the female staff. Acted like an absolute jerk. I will never return!!! more

Soutern Canned 12/5/2010

Sunday meal turned out horrific. Restaurant was empty. Could not believe a 23 Zazat rating. Creamed corn and black eyed peas tasted like canned. Brocoli casserole was not good Fried green tomatoes were greasy with no distince taste. Stay away. more

Portions Are HUGE! 11/22/2010

I love this place! Don't walk out with out a Choc... Pie to go! Don't forget the fresh Whip cream! Pros: Great Cons: Great! more

NOT ECO-FRIENDLY 10/2/2009

They advertise how they have gone green but they dont recycle or even compost. Normally I would not care but they say they are a leader in going green. Cons: anti green more

Comfy, comfy comfy! Go home and go to bed afterwards! 9/11/2008

Haven't been here in awhile cuz we moved--but now that I saw it online--I am going next week, I miss it so much. Everything is good , but way to big of portions so you should really share an entree and all the fixins with a friend or plan on taking left overs. Service always excellent. Somtimes long wait but sit and chill in the country ambience. Pros: food, parking Cons: wait time more

Great food 6/15/2008

Don't forget Greenwood's simply because it's a long-lived restaurant. Bill is there everyday with his welcoming smile and fine attention to quality and service. The prices and quality are especially important in this economic time when entertainment monies are really budgeted. I like that Greenwood's is open for lunch everyday so that I can dine whenever I want and not be tied into any closing time (and still have plenty to take home in a ""doggy bag"" to have a light supper). Even though I'm a bulgur wheat/yogurt kind of person, the freshly ground hamburger which fills the homemade sourdough roll with all the trimmings AND a vegetable side or the tasty fried catfish fillets with tartar sauce made daily along with the two vegetable sides are impossible to pass up. Even my Southern mom says they are the best she has ever put in her mouth. By the way, with reference to one of your reviews, Greenwood's DOES take credit cards and DOES make sweet tea. I especially like the personable service--a respite from some of the pouty, can't-be-bothered servers you normally encounter--the continuing quality, the emphasis on organic produce and meats and all enjoyed in the beauty and serenity of the gardens. BTW, those are old hours. Greenwood's is open Wed - Sunday from 11:30 to 9:00 or 10:00 pm (sorry I can't remember exactly but I do know they don't close after the usual lunch hours). Pros: Service/quality of food Cons: Have to know where to park (like across the street at the other restaurant)/I wish parents would keep their kids seated. more

Eclectic Southern Fare 11/20/2006

I was raised on southern food; my grandmother could make biscuits like nobody's business and that was just the beginning. I won't say that Greenwood's rivals my grandmother's cooking, but they do offer a much more updated southern taste. I've tried a couple of different dishes there and each have been very tasty. They don't put on aires when it comes to presentation, but they don't need to with the tasty dishes they put out. The atmosphere is eclectic and this place is definitely worth a visit. Pros: Good ""Updated"" Southern Food, Atmosphere, Desserts more

Extremely overrated 11/17/2006

I really don't get why people seem to think so much of this place: I definitely didn't care for the ""Californian"" take on classic Southern cuisine (although I think the owner is actually from Baltimore). They don't even serve sweet tea! How can you not have sweet tea at a restaurant that supposedly specializes in Southern food? Pros: The pie is decent; portions are enormous. Cons: Crowded and completely overrated. more

ALL THATS GOOD ABOUT THE SOUTH.... 8/8/2005

This is the best southern cookin in all of the metro atlanta area!!! The plum sauce duck could make you cry but make sure someone at the table orders the fried chickin. The service is consistantly good and the veggies are right from Mr. Greenwood's garden lot of the time. Go ready to eat, the portions are huge. The only thing lacking is the wine list, with such a amazing dish as the duck i wanted to drink a nice bottle of robust Oregon Pinot Noir. The owner would in no way budge on a corkage fee.All around A+++ Pros: Great Service, Amazing Food, Huge desserts Cons: poor winelist, long waits, owner's huge ego more

Passed the test 7/11/2005

We could take my out-of-town, 91 year old aunt anywhere. We took the chance and treated her and ourselves to a first-time visit to Greenwood's. My wife and I are 49 ... my son 15 ... Aunt Tinnie 91. That's 204 years of eating experience at one table ... and we all agreed - it's the best ever ! Aunt Tinnie says ""Thank You Greenwood's !"" Pros: atmosphere, quality, service more

Yummy and Fun 6/10/2005

Management geared to customer satisfaction, well trained, friendly staff combined with scrumptious food assure a satisfying dining experience. Dinner specials are consistently outstanding and desserts are a must. Best place in Roswell for dining...best place in Atlanta for casual dining, period. Pros: Food, Responsive staff, Value Cons: Parking, Parking, Parking more

Excellent Fried Chicken 3/21/2005

Our favorites are the fried chicken, creamed corn, and broccoli caserole. We live in Huntsville, AL and drive almost four hours just to eat here. Pros: Best fried chicken, Very large portions Cons: Arrive early more

best casual southern cooking 1/28/2005

Very large portions and quality home cooked food will bring you back. Fried chcien is the highlight and made to order. Meatloaf was kind of plain but the pork chops were huge and delicious. All of the sides, like pinto beans, broccoli casserole, mashed taters, and cornbread were rocking. The menu suggests to leave the kids at home along with other little quirks. A nice import beer slection and the wine list was good this casual joint. Go get some country cooking and see for yourself. Pros: casual, no hustle bustle, friendly more

Greenwoods: Not tonight 6/1/2004

The two of us were told 30 to 45 minute wait when we first arrived. I thought this was nuts since there were so many people waiting. However, I had never been there before and figured it must be a quick turn around. An hour and 10 minutes later we asked how much longer. We were told 15 minutes. During this time, we saw large parties who had come in after us being seated. An hour and 30 minutes later, my companion asked the host why we were told 30 to 45 minutes when he knew it would be longer. The host was then extremely rude. We left, and went to Aqua Blue where the service was excellent. Can't tell you how the food is, but the service is despicable. more

This ain't Folks 5/13/2004

First thing's first. Don't come here expecting to find crayons, mac n' cheese, or hayseed stereotypes. That's not southern. This is real, fresh-cooked southern comfort food without all the nonsense. Granted, the place is a bit of a dichotomy: the garden and pop and folk art make it seem kid-friendly at first glance, but youre really better off leaving the kids at home (as they suggest on the menu). Also, its a tad pricy (for gargantuan portions) and they dont take plastic, so bring cash. The chicken is fried to order. Coated with honey and cracked black pepper, its usually stellar. Pot roast has been terrible of late. I usually opt for the fishes, meatloaf, or potpie. Serious sides include FRESH applesauce, honest-to-goodness broccoli casserole, and collards. For dessert the monstrous slabs of fresh pie get the headlines, and rightfully so, but dont overlook the luscious ice cream made onsite. Pros: Real southern cooking, Funky atmosphere, Monster portions Cons: , Wait at peak times, Odd hours more

A little disappointing 2/22/2004

What southern cooking restaurant doesn't have green beans or macaroni & cheese? I love this kind of food, but I was really not that impressed with this place. The atmosphere is great, but I really think the menu could use some improvement. more

BEST DEAL, BEST FOOD 1/26/2003

This is by far the best home cooking in Atlanta with no close competitors. One of only few Atlanta restaurants worth the drive and the wait. Pros: Inexpensive, Huge portions, Great taste more
