I found versace pants, ann taylor leather skirt, christian lacroix skirt, betsey johnson dress and loads of banana republic and most things were under $20. The most I paid for any...

top-quality second-hand 1/17/2006

If you like thrift shops... don't get your hopes up. Green Street Consignment is on the pricier side of the bridge. You know... a pair of se7en jeans for 30 bucks... but hey! if you're in the market for 'em that's not a bad price to pay! I found a fantastic leather armband-wrap-bracelet dickies watch there a few months ago for $20 and I wear it all the time. So if you don't mind paying a bit more for good quality items, check it out. (oh, and if you're looking into consigning... just remember, they only take really NICE stuff... take your worn out clothes over to goodwill.) more

Decent clothes, but not dirt cheap 9/7/2005

There are three Greene Streets, two in Center City (700 South Street, and 1733 Chestnut Street, and one in Bryn Mawr (848 W. Lancaster Ave.). Greene Street is always a great place to browse, as they consistently have decent clothes. However, because things are on consignment, nothing is really that cheap the way they are in thrift stores. If you’re lucky, you can get great finds, and I’ve bought high-end brands that normally I would not spend the money for (e.g. Theory). If you’re not squeamish about shoes, I personally find the shoe section the best part of Greene Street. Each Greene Street has clothes with a slightly different flavor, matching the neighborhood it’s in, e.g. one on South Street is going to have slightly younger more funky clothes than the one in Bryn Mawr. http://www.greenestreetconsignment.com/ more

Decent cheap basics 8/14/2005

This is where I go if I need a pair of cheap jeans or some basics for work. It's not for the "vintage" shopper, but it's great if you need some basics and don't want to pay full price. You will have to dig, but the store is pretty well organized even if there are so many racks of clothes it's hard to walk through the space. It's hit or miss whether you'll find something, but you can get some really nice stuff for a relatively good price. It's also great if you want to get rid of some of your stuff as well but don't want to just dump it Goodwill. You can make some money by putting your good condition clothes on consignment. more

It's okay if you're trying to build a cheaper wardrobe 8/6/2005

The plus about this place is that there are racks and racks of second hand clothes in reasonably good shape. The minus is that I have yet to find anything that is truly unique or interesting. Many clothes come from major chains, fairly new, that probably have been worn a couple of times and the person got tired of them. Lots of Ann Taylor, Arden B and The Gap. Do NOT go here if you're trying to find really cheap vintage stuff from the 60's or 70's, as that selection is limited. I find the shoe section to be gross. more
