A Great unchanged piece of history. 3/19/2011

I love great northern guns. When I was homeless they took me in. I am able to roam around and climb on the counters. People come in and pet me, the workers feed me, and clean out my potty box. And I hear things that no one thinks I am hearing.\r For 43 years Great Northern Guns has been a part of Anchorage. It has remained fairly unchanged over the years. Yes it is small, yes there are only 4 guys behind the counter usually, yes they do serve coffee for free every day and have goodies on the counter for those who care to endulge. They are straight forward, honest, integrable men who will help you with anything if you ask.\r Some may wonder why are they priced little over the competition? Well, large companies receive great kickbacks and discounts because of the volume that they order, great for them bad for a small shop. They do pay aproximately half for used gun purchases, as you may know anyone looking for a deal is going to throw out a lower offer on the gun hence the higher price. Some may think they are making alot of money on their gun sales, those people would be wrong.\r Stop by and see me and the guys anytime. We would love to see you. I may even let you pet me if I am on the counter.\r more

Best gun shop in Anchorage 2/26/2008

Great Northern Guns or as I call them GNG, is the best gun store in Anchorage. Their knowledge on guns is exceptional and their customer service is good. The best thing about GNG is that they have a great used guns selection. Most of the time people go in almost every other day waiting for that pre-64 model 70 of their dreams to come in on a trade or consignment while others like me look for great deals on extraordinary guns that show up here and there. \r \r There are only three things that I don't like about the store that could use some improvement or change: First, the shop can tend to get crowded due to the small floor space which is unfortunate because you can only display so many guns at one time. If they could expand their shop that would be fantastic. Second, their mark-ups on new firearms is quite a bit, but the customer service usually makes up for the few extra dollars. Third, the one that bothers me the most is how they do trade-ins. One example is I traded in a model 94 angle eject that was in great shape. The blue book value was $225 and they say they usually give you half, which is fair on a trade-in. They gave me $100 and told me they would put a sticker price of $195 on the gun. Good deal right? It was until I came back in two days to notice that my gun was selling for $295!\r Other than these few complaints, great store! more
