Truly the Ultimate Experience in Wine Education and Fun 9/18/2007

The reason for my comments is because I am one of those coupon guys and I am glad that The Grape is putting those promotional gift certificates out there so I can visit more often. Guess what I am cheap and I will admit it. But to think I could come in and pay for my whole table of guests with promotional coupons I paid ? face value for is just plan tacky. That?s not point of promotional coupons, But then again I guess I was raised different. I just hope that a few don?t ruin it for the many and I hope that The Grape continues with those types of programs. Pros: Perfect Wine Place Cons: Not enough people know about it more

Love it:) 8/31/2007

I am new to Charlotte and have been trying to get to know the city better. I came upon a wine bar called, The Grape at Northlake Mall. As soon as I walked in I was impressed by the decor. I was warmly greeted by the staff and decided to sit at the bar, this is where I was introduced to the menu. The waitress explained the menu in full detail and began to ask questions about my taste. From there she was able to pair me up with a great glass of wine. Not only did I have great service but I had come on Five on the Vine, which happens every Thursday. You can get $5 glasses on select 1-5 grape wines. I have always been interested in getting to know wine better and this is the perfect place to come to. So many to choose from that I know I will defiantly be back! more

Great atmosphere to relax , eat & most important ly drink great wine!! 8/4/2007

First, I love City Search and all of the great information you receive about all the great places around town. As usual I went to City Search to find out about great wine bars in the area and I came across The Grape @ Northlake Mall. Of course I read all the reviews and decided to go with a group of my friends. Normally I don?t write reviews but I was compelled to do so when I read the last review and I was quite shocked at their comments. Yes, I know everyone is entitled to there opinion, however I would like to ask what?s wrong with bringing a trendy, hot, sheik place to Charlotte? All I can say is Thank You, and please bring more bars and restaurants like you. This place was just simply delightful. The food I ordered was awesome (chicken, portabella quiche) and the waiter was dead on pairing it with the Mer Soleil Silver Unoaked Chardonnay. I know for a fact that I have not seen that wine selection at any of the other wine bars, or even full white table cloth restaurants in Charlotte. I guess my point is I am glad that we have these types of places finally coming to Charlotte and if we expect more upscale, fine dining, trendy places to open in the Queen City then we need to make sure we support them. Pros: Extensive Food Menu for a Wine Bar. Great Service, Great Music!!! more

So-so wine bar experience. 7/28/2007

Overall, not a bad experience, but not a great one either. Restaurant could spare some of the trendiness for more functional items like larger tables, easier-to-hold water glasses, etc. Service was great - friendly and knowledgeable. Food was good, but nothing special. Nice adult ambiance, but almost trying too hard with all the trendy decor. Wine okay - again, nothing special, but they really seem to think it is as they have gone to great trouble to describe their wines in a booklet menu that would make you think you were going to be drinking the most amazing imported wine the world has to offer, when you're really just getting a glass of basic Merlot, Chardonnay, Malbec, etc. Overall, a bit pricey for what you get. more

The most romantic Valentines Day I have had in a long time. 2/25/2007

My soon to be husband and I have been together for 7 years and with any relationship sometimes you have to think outside the box to keeps things interesting and exciting. Well on Valentines Day my soon to be husband did just that. I was a little confused at first because we headed to the Northlake Mall. But as we came around the back only visible by a huge grape logo was this beautiful wine bar that simply took my breath away. I had been to the mall a dozen times and did not realize that The Grape even existed. It was reservations only for the Valentines dinner and as we entered I was presented with a rose from the owner himself. I was even more impressed when I read this awesome arrangement of a 4 course dinner and our choice of a bottle of wine (Oriel Portia) from ?The Grape? Love Pix Menu as they called it. The whole atmosphere at The Grape was just beautiful, deemed lights, music playing in the background by a male vocalist named Kevin Jones which was accompanied by a piano player and a saxophone player. The staff was very helpful, professional and with a packed restaurant it was timed perfectly. If everything was not perfect enough upon leaving we where handed a (him and her) gift bag. When I ask my fiance how in the world he picked such a great place he said that he found out about The Grape from your web page, so City Search thank you and thank you to The Grape for making our Valentines Day a night I will cherish. Pros: Great Service, Great Wine List, Food Excellent, Atmosphere very Romantic, Nothing like this in Charlotte more

Wine, Great Food, and Christmas Shopping Made Easy. What's not to LOVE! 12/26/2006

For most of us going to the mall to shop is like pulling teeth but there are several times a year that it must be done and Christmas is one of them. What can be more difficult then that is finding that one gift that is unique for that special person in your life that has everything. Well not only after an hour of shopping and frustrated that I could not find anything, I stumbled upon The Grape @ Northlake Mall. I bellied up to this warm, friendly, quaint bar for a glass of wine and everything fell into place. Not only did I get paired up with an unbelievable glass of wine from a friendly bartender name Becky, but I was also able to find that perfect gift for my partner. After an hour of learning about The Grape Classification system and why I was a ?Grape 5,? I was able to pair the ?Papa Luna? that I was drinking with some ?Red Hot Dutch? gourmet cheese and some tasty New Zealand Lamp Chops that were out of this world. But then came the best part, attached to the wine bar is a wine retail shop and there I found my one of kind gift, ?Faberge Wine Charms?. (Egg shaped porcelain works of art about the size of a dime that are richly decorated with gold and jewels. Traditionally made for the Czars of Russia in the late 1800?s and early 1900?s they are extremely valuable and of course one of kind.) Thank you Becky and The Grape for the one of kind wine and food pairing and for the one of kind gift that to date has been the best gift ever this holiday season. Happy Holidays and I can?t wait to see you for your New Year?s Celebration. more

wine neophytes rejoice! 9/21/2006

Have you always wanted to learn more about wine but shuttered at the thought of condesending sommeliers and wine snobs? The Grape makes it easy! They'll let you find a wine that you truly enjoy, instead of foisting upon you some plonk based purely on reputation. The ambiance is great and the staff is always pleasant. I will definitely be going back! more

Great Chill Place, Great Wine, Great Music 9/15/2006

I went on to city search last night to see if there was something new in Charlotte I could take some of my friends that where coming into town and I saw this new place called The Grape. So my friends went to check it out and much to our surprise it was a really cool, chill place. Very relaxing, great ambience, great food, the only problem so we thought at first was that they just served wine. The bartender ask us what type of beer we drank and she matched up perfectly our taste profiles and introduced us to some great tasting wine. Again, I was not sure about this at first, but then the band starting playing, and it was a 70s infused, blues and funk sound and we had the best time. Thanks City Search for letting us know the new and exciting things to do in Charlotte. Pros: Thumbs Up. Keep an open mind and try something different. Will be back. more

Great Place to Let Your Hair down and kick your Shoes Off! 9/13/2006

Hiding in the back of the new Northlake Mall, The Grape turned out to be a place I just simply lost myself in. I was heading to the movies and was distracted by this patio covered by this purple awning with big grape logos in white. To my surprise it was a wine bar decked out in this posh, purple and green decor. Everything from the crystal chandeliers to the big purple comfortable chairs, to the bathrooms decked out with copper sinks and original art hanging on the walls. Then I was able to do Grape by the Bunches 3 tasters printed out on a memo sheet that I could take notes and then go next door to the Seller and take a bottle home with me retail price. What a great concept, and the food was surprising very good. The best part it was a very comfortable place for me to go to and not worry about some hassles you get from other bars as a lady at the bar by yourself. I will definitely be back and I will tell all my girlfriends about this great place. Pros: Simply The Best I have seen in a long time. Great wine, Great Value. more

If you want a unique experience and love wine and Great Small-Plate Gourmet Fare this is your Place! 9/13/2006

Great wines, Great food, Great service, the big three what a great experience we had at The Grape tonight. However, we were very surprised that The Grape was not wall to wall customers, and were very surprised the owner(s) had chosen Lake Norman, Huntersville for their 1st location. This is a definitely a South Park concept and I hope it can survive until the area catches up with its splendor. I have lived in the South Park area in Charlotte for 6 years and I am an avid wine lover I have never seen anything like this concept. Its great for couples, a group of people, or even just a quiet night by yourself, too bad I did not think of this. Again, I hope the customers in the area realize what they have just minutes from their homes. I will have no problem making the trip, it's well worth it. Pros: A Unique, Special Wine list that will make your mouth water. more

Great Atmosphere, Great Wine, Great Music! 9/10/2006

The food was very good, ambiance beautiful, waitress could have been a little more attentive but they were very busy that night, but all in all a good experience and would go back. Had a great time. Somewhere new to go. Pros: Loved It! more

Great Wine Dinners, this is your place!! 9/10/2006

Just recently attended The Grapes wine dinner which is held on the 4th Monday of every month and they showcase different wines or a particular region each month. The wines that they had showcased for August was their Oriel line, which is about 98% exclusive to The Grape and I know for a fact you can not find it anywhere else in Charlotte. Simply delightful!! 4 courses, 5 wines and the best part just $50 a person. Now I know what you are thinking and that is the value, and I can tell you with all the wine dinners that I have attended, for only $50 bucks, I have never received this type of hands on service and an overall great experience. Not to mention the Owner was present and introduced himself, and helped served us all the way through the meal while the wine director presented the wines and explained the different courses of cuisine. I had a Oriel Pinot Credo from California that retailed for $60 a bottle, I also had a Oriel Cab Soluna blend that retailed for $100 a bottle and these are the types of wines you will experience at these wine dinners. I was shocked! I have already signed up for the September Wine Dinner which is their De Venoge Champagne dinner, which currently The Grape is the only place in the United States that you can get this exclusive French champagne. What else can you ask for? more

Great Experience! 9/6/2006

I was actually at a function last night for a Visitors Choice Awards and I first learned of The Grape @ Northlake Mall. They actually won The Visitors Choice Award for ""Best Wine List"" for 2006 voted on by visitors to the Charlotte area. So I had to check out this new place tonight and can I say I really enjoyed myself. There was a steady crowd but I was very surprised that there were not more people. With anything in Charlotte a new place needs time to catch on and when The Grape does catch on look out. Truly a very hip, cool, fun relaxing place, but of course the best part was the wine. Clearly they are doing something right and the best part I actually had the opportunity to meet the owner, he actually served me because they had a waiter call in sick. Impressive!!! But most importantly the wine was great, the food surprisingly very good. I encourage others to discover this new gem Pros: Loved the place, staff eager to help you. more

Awesone Wine List! 9/5/2006

Nice change of scenery, something new and hot for charlotte. At first I was a little surprised that it was contected to the mall, because I don't think of the mall and going out in the same thought. However, they have there own seperate entrance and they stay open past mall hours. I thought let's give it a try and WOW I was impressed! Will definitely return. Great Live Jazz & Blues as well. Win-Win combination. Pros: Great wine list. Good food. Great atmposphere, Friendly staff more

Charlottes Best Kept Secret! 9/5/2006

Honesty, the best kept secret in Charlotte and I hope it stays that way. Being selfish of course, the atmosphere is fantastic. Last Friday night I stumbled upon a very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere that displayed a motif of deep purples, cushy posh banquettes for lounging and the sounds of adult contemporary tunes by Marthas Trouble in the back ground. And then I tasted the wine and can I just say superb. For all those other wine snubs out there like me and you want a wine you cannot find anyone else by the bottle or glass this is your place. And for all the beginners the wine menu is set up by a copyrighted Taste Classification guide that helps you navigate until you find the wine that best fits your palate. Genius! They also feature a Wine Retail Seller that you can take a bottle home with you when you leave. Genius Again! They also have a food menu that showcases small-plate gourmet fare that does an excellent job complimenting their wine. I had the Crabcakes paired with their Pennautier Viognier, New Zealand Lamb Chops paired with their Zolo Malbec, and their Le Chocolat for dessert with a glass of Coppo Brachetto that was just to die for. If you are coming to experience a full scale restaurant then you have come to the wrong place. They are a wine bar, make no mistake, but honestly, its my new Cheers! They are located at the new Northlake Mall (Exit 18 off of 77N) on the back side between Belk and the AMC theater hiding in the back which I am sure serves as a double edge sword. Their exposure is limited except for the big purple awning that you can not miss, but it also creates a nice romantic setting that allows a certain level of privacy that in my opinion is a must. more
