Grandma & Grandpa's Puppets

The couple that used to own this store retired. The new owner (me) will be changing the name to ""Treehouse Puppets & Treasures"" and is already making changes to the business. The puppets will certainly stay, as will most of the merchandise. I am in the process of making the place more ""family friendly"" and will include a play area for kids. Also plan on free puppet shows at least weekly. I will be adding more creative and fun games and toys to the lineup. For those of you who had bad experiences I hope you will stop by and see the changes. On weekends my children are usually with me at the store helping out. We are also building a website.... My husband and I went to John's Pass this past weekend. We were walking along, window shopping, when we noticed that there were stores on the upper level too. We felt bad for the store owners that no one seemed to be going upstairs to visit these stores, so we decided to go for it. We went into this puppet store and were looking around. It's basically a store of hand puppets. So I tried one out and went up to my husband and pretended it was talking to him. The old woman staff member was extremely rude and roughly yelled ""DON'T TOUCH HIS FACE!"". At this point I would like to point out that I was not touching his face. I totally 100% understand that she does not want the puppets to touch people's faces. But she most definitely could've pointed this out in a much better way. My husband promptly said, ""Let's go"". I said to the mean lady ""See ya"", she said something like ""Next time"" to which I replied ""We won't be coming back"" and she said ""good""! I couldn't believe how rude this staff memeber was to us. We are a normal couple in our 30's, we were dressed nicely, and acting appropriately. In this economy you would think that they would be more welcoming to customers. more

While I was on vacation with my 8 grandchildren ranging in ages from 20 to 9 years old. We found a shop that everyone had a good time in everyone had something to do and look at. In most of the store I always had at least one of the chlildren asking if we where ready to go but at Grandma and Grandpa Puppets they all loved the store not one of them where asking me if it was time to go. They had something for every age, when it was time to go is when they started to complain so that should tell you something. Both Grandma and Grandpa seem to enjoy each and every person that walked in the door. They where so helpful and dimistrated anything my children wanted to see. We where on vacation when we found Grandma and Grandpa Puppets and my 10 year old son fell in love with both grandma and grandpa. My son lives for Pokemon cards and Grandpa has the best price in the world my son was so exited. They also have several purse and some great luggage that I had to have for myself they where very helpful showing me how everything worked. I found some puppets there also and they where willing to ship them to me back home in KY. I would recommend this story to everyone of all ages my son and I cant wait to go back. I think we have made life time friends with grandma and grandpa. I have been going to this store for many years. The owners have always been helpful and friendly. When I took the children from my preschool there, ""Grandpa"" gave each of them a finger puppet. \r Anytime I have called to ask for a cetain puppet, they always ask if I want them to hold it for me. My son loves Grandpa and Grandma and always wants to invite them to our house. He has such an imagination and I feel these wonderful people have helped create that with the way they have presented their puppets to us each time we have been there. We have been in the store for an hour at a time, and I still have to pull my son away. They encourage him to take his time. Sometimes we buy and sometimes we just look. As a teacher, I have recommended this store to many people, and I have never heard anything but praise when they left. Pros: Great selection. Great quality. Great owners. more

I decided to stop in the store for a few minutes to look around and possibly buy a puppet as a souvenir. I took a couple pictures of the some of puppets with my camera phone because I thought they looked cool. Then, right as I was taking the third picture, some old, fat guy tapped me on the shoulder and rudely forced me to leave the store! Apparently, it is absolutley forbidden to take pictures of puppets in the store (they cursed or something?). The review below me also had the same problem. After this experience at the store, I felt compelled to write this review to get people to avoid this store at all costs. Unless you want a rude, fat, old smelly guy to literally push you out of a store, avoid this store! The owner is high strung and kicked me out of the store because I took a picture of my son with a puppet on his hand. He was so threatening that I called 911out of fear. The puppets are darling but the owner chases away customers. My wife put down the puppet she had selected to purchase and left promptly. He is easily recognized because he is as round and short and grey hair. He is a walking time bomb. Pros: None with the present owner. I would not patronize his store. Cons: The owner. I completely disagree with the rating given by the previous person! I know for a fact the owners wouldn't have talked to the children like that. These people are the most kind hearted people you will ever meet. They love children and bringing joy to them with puppets. Whenever you walk in they are eager to help. They aren't eager for the sale, but for the pure enjoyment of the children. They work hand in hand with a school. Their store had worked with this school in Pinellas County and made it one of the finest schools of puppetry around. Their caring demeanor is what I would like to express in this comment. GRANDMA AND GRANDPAS PUPPETS ARE WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend you visit them and you will know why they are in the puppet business......sheer wonder and creativity will rush over you when entering the store. Title summarizes, here are the details. Upon entering this TOY store with our children, they tried on some hand puppets (on display at childrens' level). The owner snatched the puppets from our daughter, theatening, ""$35.99 if you touch it again"", and griped that the kids had them ""all over the store"". In fact two children had them ON THEIR HANDS next to me, and were playing with them (they are toys after all, in a toy store!). We left, telling the owner that if things were not to be touched, there should be a sign. She barked ""my store, I don't need a sign, GET OUT"". Cons: Extremely rude, Children not welcome more
