Very Solid Meal 1/19/2012

Ii enjoyed the food, very much. I found the decor,to be both cozy, and welcoming. The service was attentive, and the prices competitive. This would be an ideal place to take your date,on a Friday or Saturday night. I ordered the sweet&sour chicken, it was very tasty! There were good chunks of pineapple, tomatoes, and bell peppers, with chicken, in a sweet/sour sauce. It even came with white rice. A very solid meal! more

Excellent Authentic Food 3/18/2011

Try the steamed dumplings, beef & potatoes, garlic green beans (AMAZING!), twice-cooked pork and bean paste crepes (for dessert). The Service was quite good - no complaints about the speed. We've eaten at GS many, many times and have always enjoyed the food and the very pleasant servers. more

Twin cities slowest Chinese food 1/23/2011

Food here is ok,far from the best in the twin cities though. Tonight we were told 1 hour delivery time and it took 2 hours. When we finally received it we were missing 3 orders of white rice. We called, they said they would have it out to us within 20 minutes. It has been an hour and were still waiting......Horrible service!! more

Most Authentic Chinese in Twin Cities 7/23/2009

Order the Pan fried dumplings, the Chicken Black bean sauce with pan fried noodles, and Chinese broccoli. I promise you will not be disappointed!!!! Pros: Great food more

Outstanding service 1/9/2009

We were staying at Children's Hospital and ordered food for delivery. The building is secured at night and cells phones aren't allowed. You have to call the NICU unit desk and then asked to be put through to a room. This is the number I gave the restaurant when I placed the order.\r \r They said it would be 45-60 minutes so I went downstairs after an hour and waited around. I didn't see anyone so I came back, no one had called either. I called them back and they said that they had tried calling me, but there was no answer. They had sent the driver over, but they ended up returning with the food to the kitchen. \r \r It turns out I had transposed two of the numbers and given them the wrong number. The driver had gone home (it was now after closing), but they guy I talked to (owner?) said he would bring the food by himself. He came right over.\r \r The food was good. We read about the chicken in black bean sauce and ordered it - very good. Flavorful, tender chicken, large quantity. I thought the kung pao chicken was about average, not spicy (even by MN standards), but good quantity.\r \r It's worth mentioning that this food is a great value. I thought we got a lot for the money. Would I order again? You bet. Pros: Service, value more

Best Chinese food in the Twin Cities. 12/27/2008

This is the place to go to find some of the best Chinese food made by a chef born and raised in Hong Kong. I recommend the chicken and black bean sauce pan fried noodle, otherwise try it with the FUN noodle, which are actually hand made noodles. If spicy is not your thing try Chicken and vegetables with noodles. They are known for having the best Pork Bao in the Midwest. It is a family run business that has been there for over 17 years. They use the freshest ingredients possible. This is the only Chinese place I can stand to eat at. The lunch buffet is the most valuable option, aside from the vast array of choices on the menu. You can try something new every time you go to Grand Shanghai! Pros: Great food, great value Cons: Parking may be difficult on Grand Ave. more

Good Food. Bad Service. 11/23/2008

Have ordered delivery several times from Grand Shanghai. Recently moved into a new house that is within their delivery zone....at least it was last time we ordered. This time we used a different phone number when we called in...they asked for the address...they claimed they don't deliver to our home (which is in the Highland neighborhood). Wait, they did a month before? When trying to explain to them they delivered to us in the past the host on the phone said, ""frankly, we're really busy right now."" Our response was very simple, ""frankly, we'll never order from Grand Shanghai again"". \r \r Ordered from Cleveland Wok last night, and yes they deliver, and it was fantastic! Exceptional food AND service. Cons: Service more

Fantastic and Affordable 11/18/2008

This is by far one of the best Chinese places in the area! They have great food that will not break your wallet. I eat there quite frequently and they are always very pleasant. The only thing I have that is a con, they do not accept credit or debit cards for delivery. That in mind, they are absolutely amazing and I can afford it on my college budget. Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: Don't Accept CC's for Delivery more

Great St Paul Chinese Food!! 10/18/2008

They have some of the best food in town. We eat there often and love the service as well as the food. Great people. Pros: Great food, great service more

Great Chinese! 4/14/2008

This is the perfect spot to get anything you want for a reasonable price and the food is tasty! I wish there was a menu online somewhere! more

Shanghai Grand Restaurant 10/31/2007

We had called for delivery from Shangai Grand Restaurant, asked for an online menu, and they didnt have one. We asked them to offer some menu suggestions, but they were not helpful at all. So we ordered our usual favorites from other chinese restaurants. They said they had a combo and didnt give a total, but then when the food arrived there was no combo deal, they just charged extra for fried rice. They didnt put any of the extra condiments we asked for in the bag. On top of bad service, the food was horrible. Honestly, the worst we've ever had. The chicken was unedible, wontons were bad and they didnt put in sweet and sour sauce we asked for, and the soup was disgusting. What a waste of money! more

Happy New Year! 1/29/2006

I went here on the day after Chinese New Year and it was awesome! They brought in a performing troupe that did the Lion Dance and did martial arts demonstrations and set of firecrackers in the restaurant! It was so exciting! I would say there are other restaurants with comparable food but the owners just work so hard to make the dinner as enjoyable as possible. I'd reccomend this anytime you are in the mood for Chinese. more

i'd drive a million miles 8/26/2003

Don't let the parking near Grand Avenue or it's unassuming decor deter you.........it has the BEST wonton soup and MOST UNFORGETTABLE peking duck in the area. more

Tasty oriental fare 8/29/2002

The Grand Shanghai is a decent Chinese place, but I didn't find it too memorable in the face of so many other places in the Cities to eat Asian food. The daily buffet is small and a bit disorganized, but good. The sweet and sour chicken was excellent, and their version of seseme chicken was not so much seseme as mildly spicy/sweet (actually, reminded me a lot of the nearby Green Mill's spicy Diablo chicken wings!!) Only had the buffet, can't comment on their seafood specialities. Pros: good service, food was fresh more
