An Amazing Trip Of The Senses 7/29/2010

I recently had the pleasure at dining at Gracies for my 3 year anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. I learned about this restaurant from tripadvisor and visited there website to check it out. I emailed them and recieved a response from Anter Thakur within 24hrs, he answered all my concerns so I booked a 8pm reservation. Pros: Service, ambience,Wine more

Great food 11/5/2008

A bit pricy, but worth every penny. Gracies has proven that they are indeed the best restaurant in the city. Their Chef is second to none and continues to come up with amazing dishes. I have been a loyal customer since their move and plan on staying like that for many more years to come. more

Truely modern cusine - a rare find in RI 4/13/2008

Gracie's is such a treat. Uncommon dishes, artfully prepared, beautifully presented and professionally served. Other reviewers have mentioned that they were not thrilled with the portion sizes. Please understand that food of this quality and complex preparation are not meant to be served in buffet-sized portions but rather in quantities that allow you to savor each bite while allowing you to sample tempting appetizers and save room for the wonderful desserts. Also, some felt the prices were too high, but I found the prices generally in line with what you would expect to pay for this type of dining in any major city. If fact, the 3-course pre-theater menu (served from 5-7pm) and the 5 or 7 course tasing menu are quite a bargain. Last night my wife chose to try the pre-theater menu ($40 total price) while I selected items a-la-carte. Prior to recieving our first selections, the kitchen sent out a complimentary ""shot"" of red pepper gazpacho to get us prepared for the meal to come. My wife started with the rich duck risotto. This dish was delicately flavored and packed with tender duck and topped with microgreens. My started was shredded duck dumplings served with diced sweet potatoes and maple glazed root vegetables. This dish was beautifully presented and served as a springboard for the rest of the meal. Our server then bought us a quick pallate cleanser of raspberry sorbet. Four our main course, my wife ordered the Hangar Steak served with thrice cooked pomme frites. This very flavorful cut of beef was served sliced on top of the rectangular bars of potato. The portion was large enough that she couldn't finish it all. I ordered the tenderloin of Bison. This was cooked perfectly medium rare all the way through and served on a roasted tomato ragu accompanied with a blue cheese polenta. Excellent dish. The milkshake tart for dessert was teriffic. The wine list was inventive and service spot on. The valet parking was very convenient. Can't wait to return! Pros: Inventive dishes, great service, valet parking, decor. Cons: Pricey wine list. more

Excellent food, atmosphere, service, but high prices. 6/30/2007

I was attracted to Gracie's by a card for a complimentary dessert tasting for two. I was not expecting to be as impressed as I was. Gracie's was a perfect companion to our cool summer night on the town. The food was excellent, the service was very good, and the ambiance was so romantic I almost made out with the people sitting next to us. They have valet, so parking is a breeze. We were seated immediately because the restaurant was empty (I LOVE Providence in the summer. Everyone is gone at the beach). The menu was semi-American/Italian with heavy French influence (read: small servings, lots of weird words). It displayed a suitable amount of pomp in choices of ingredients and foods. Their menu is on their website. For our first course/appetizer we ordered the artisanal cheese platter (pricey at $18) which came with a selection of five cheeses. One of these was recently rated ""the best cheese in the world."" I'm not sure I agree, but it was excellent nonetheless. It came with a small dollop of honeycomb which was truly delicious with the cheese. For entrees my girlfriend got the house-made gnocchi, which was well made but nothing exceptional. I got the Berkshire pork two ways. This pork was a revelation. It was probably the best I've ever had. Two pieces of tenderloin cooked differently. Both were just mouth-watering. I'm drooling now. For dessert, we got the tasting platter which came with four, near full-size servings. One strawberry shortcake which was decent, one flourless chocolate cake which was excellent, a banana milk chocolate mousse torte, also excellent, and a blueberry lemon cake with gelato which was just eye-poppingly delicious. Across the board, presentations were beautiful. Artful and attractive. The only thing holding this back from five stars is its prices. In a city with such wonders as CAV and Al Forno, which are on the cheaper end of similar prices, Gracie's needs more variety and inventiveness, or bigger servings to explain the prices. Pros: Excellent food. Good menu. Excellent presentation. Very romantic. Cons: Expensive. Small servings. Limited, seasonal menu. more

Shining Brightly 10/15/2002

Tucked away in Federal hill, this petite Italian restaurant with both French and American influence shines as bright as the stars. #1 Course, as labeled on the menu, ranges from Foie Gras, to seared scallops over fresh lobster ravioli. The Chefs presentation resembles modern art and reflects the quality of his work. Course #2 includes a range of delectable cuisine. Various meat, pasta, and seafood are prepared with flair and simply the freshest ingredients. All dishes entertain the palate with the right balance of eye opening beauty and a taste experience. Gracie's is must to visit with someone you care about! Pros: Gem, Shines, Tasteful more
