Gracewood Nursing Home

I fell and broke my hip in October 2011. After surgery and a brief stay in the hospital I was transferred to Gracewood for care and rehabilitation. My nursing care was excellent and my room was always clean and tidy. Resident safety and cleanliness is a constant priority at Gracewood. The CNAs, wound care specialists, and nurses are very gentle, pleasant, caring, and always answer the call bell promptly. The doctor on call monitored my care and medications. The management staff coordinated a visit to my orthopedic doctor, preparing my records, even taking new X-rays right in my room. As my condition improved, I observed that all patients received the same caring services. The therapy department has modern equipment and a well trained and caring staff. With their expert daily guidance and reassurance my condition improved rapidly. They were always available to answer my questions. I also participated in some of the many planned activities at Gracewood and enjoyed talking with other residents and staff. I highly recommend Gracewood for rehabilitation and nursing care. When my husband decides to have his knee replacement, we will definitely choose Gracewood for rehabilitation. more

My mother is 81, and has been a patient at Gracewood Nursing Home in Pinellas Park, FL since May of 2008. She came there from Mease Countryside Hospital, Palm Harbor, FL where she was put on sedatives to keep her from calling out to the nurses for help, and dumped off emaciated and left with a category 4 bed sore. Since her arrival at Gracewood, she has put on weight and is currently getting physical therapy and wound care. The nurses, orderlies and aides at Gracewood do take their time answering the patients' buzzers, but they do eventually get there and make efforts to ease the patients fears and discomforts. I have not dealt with anyone yet who has an attitude, however I have been left wanting answers about my mother's medical updates, and it is now mid-July, and I have not once heard from the doctor who is caring for my mother. Veronica, my mother's nurse, is sweet and caring towards her. My mother feels safe and cared for. While Gracewood is bit out of the way for me, and the interiors could use a remodeling, the main hall appears to be getting refreshed. My mother has been in several homes in the past two years including Manor Care (fancy, but poor care) and BayTree (terrible doctors and lazy nurses), and she likes the nurses and aides at Gracewood better than any medical facility she has been in. Over all, I'd say that if Gracewood were closer to me, I would be more than pleased with my mom being there; she is kept clean and in clean linens. Her waste bags are continually changed, and she is turned several times a day to allow for her bed sore to heal, and she is only given pain meds if she asks for them, not to 'quiet her.' very bad customer service. These people are out for the money and don't give a rodent's behind about your loved one's care. Be very aware that this is true of all nursing homes and not just this one. However, they are very much a business and not helpful at all if you need assistance from them. Try to keep your loved one home if you can, it beats having them injured in a nursing home. I moved here from Canada in 1941 and I cannot believe that Florida has such a horrible medical system. Cons: Attitude while your wallet is wide open more
