better than the ditmars location that closed 4/4/2011

I used to live by the ditmars Go Wasabi and tried it a few times and was disgusted. That location has since closed no doubt due to the horrible sushi and once when I was in there I saw roaches everywhere. That being said I've moved over by the 30th ave location and was apprehensive to eat here based on my experience at the other location but my love of sushi got the best of me one day and I decided to at least try it. \r It was pretty tasty and a much cleaner place then the other location. it's not the best sushi I've ever had but I'd certainly go back here again. also they offer a 5% discount if you pay cash and they have specials! more

I love this place. Gowasabi!!! 10/7/2010

I just got a great Japanese restaurant in Astoria. I found them through a posting online and this is the best sushi place I have ever been to. Every piece of sashimi I ate...practically melted in my mouth...The sashimi, and sushi combos were filled with buttery tuna, shrimp, squid...everything is just deliciously fresh and perfect. The staffs were very friendly with great services. I'm looking forwards to going back again as soon as possible.\r \r Pros: The best sushi ever, fast service\r Cons: nothing more

Best Japanese Food and Great Service 9/14/2008

This is one of the best and friendliest Japanese restaurants in Astoria! Everything there is so fresh and delicious that it melts in your mouth. I have to admit that they have to work a little bit more on the decor but the service is great, the food is wonderful and the chef shows amazing attention to detail ! My husband and I enjoy going there almost every week. You must try them out and you will be back! Oh, did I mention that when the bill comes they actually do not empty your wallet, unlike many other (Japanese) restaurants? Pros: food and service more

NOTHING GREAT. EDIBLE 2/11/2007

I've tried this place about 4 times since it first opened. Each time I told myself I will never go back....but I did....with disappointments. I figured there were probably other good item on the menu for me to try. First, I hate that bright white light behind the sushi bar. I know it's only lighting, but it really ruins the mood and the atmosphere. I've tried the bento box, sushi, sashimi, Korean dishes, etc. If you want quality sushi, not here. If you know real Korean dishes, still not here. It's edible, but if you want to spend a little more $ for quality and atmosphere...got to the city. P.S. Shima has better Japanese cuisine in Astoria, although service lags sometimes. Pros: average price/affordable Cons: so so food, nothing great. HATE THAT LIGHT BEHIND SUSHI BAR!!! more

Great Sushi in Astoria 11/5/2006

Great place for Sushi in Astoria. My boyfriend and I prefer brown rice sushi, and they always accomodate us. The fish is fresh, the bento boxes are huge, and the staff is friendly. Other sushi spots in Astoria either do not have brown rice or they put mayonnaise in their rolls, yuck. more

Do NOT order delivery 6/22/2006

Unbelievably bad service. I ordered dinner at 7pm. I followed up on my order twice. 45 minutes later, I was told that the delivery guy was heading out with it right now. It is now 30 minutes after my follow up call and I have yet to see my food! Do not order deliver from this establishment. They could at least have the courtesy to inform you the true estimated delivery time. If they had told me the truth I would have easily walked over to pick it up. Instead, I'm held hostage in my apt, dizzy from starvation, while waiting for the delivery guy who is bound to never show up. more

Good food and reasonable price 1/20/2006

Good variety of Japanese dishes. Also a few Korean dishes. Their food is tasty and of high quality for the price. Their service is average. The environment is very nice and looks modern. Try the plum wine, it is very good. Cons: service more

GoWasabi! NoShima! 12/29/2005

Go Wasabi is our new favorite Korean restaurant in the area. Excellent service, great music (check out their jazz night), and good location. I love their Bi Bim Bop (sp?) and BBQs. Check out their lunch menus. Their delivery is faster than express train. Great meal for less. Far better place than Shima on Broadway (*UGH). This is a good example of how Japanese business gone bad and lost to Koreans in town. GoWasabi!!\r \r ""UPDATE""\r Okay, so here's the unfortuant news...they can't cook Udon or Soba. The soup is totally wrong, and too sweet. Must've used wrong dashi base. So stay away from noodle dish there. Pros: Music, service, Food Cons: Udon or Soba soup is WROOOOONG! more

COME ON, SUSHI SNOBS- GO WASABI IS GREAT! 11/3/2005

I LOVE SUSHI and Go Wasabi is a great place to have it. I doubt if any of the other reviewers who disliked Go Wasabi are very knowledgable about great sushi. I wonder if the guy who talked about this Greek neighborhood has ever had sushi in Japan. EVERYONE who works at Go Wasabi is very cordial, efficient, friendly, and most importantly, the sushi is always very fresh, and they have innovative items. And the ambience is cool- Really, you won't go wrong at this place. I've NEVER gotten a bad meal there, and I live right down the street, by Astoria Park. Also, my wife and I took her boss and her bosses' daughter there, a three year old, and they are VERY child friendly, little Lilly had a great time, with the piano music and everything, and our waitress even made a children's beginner chopstick for Lilly. GO! Pros: Fresh Food!, Nice People!, Great Location more

Teriyake Salmon 1/11/2005

Their teriyake box is gigantic - enough food for 2 people for sure, and delicious. more

Great Service, Great Sushi, Great Music 10/30/2004

I recenty dined at the 30th Ave. location, and was really pleased with the entire experience. The waitstaff and hostess were impeccable in their attention to detail, their efficient service, and their overall charm. The sushi was fresh, and delivered in a timely manor, and the portion of teriyaki chicken was enormous. We were lucky to go on a night when the restaurant was hosting live jazz, and the music greatly enriched the overall atmosphere of Go Wasabi. Astoria really needed a quality sushi restaurant, and Go Wasabi certainly qualifies as one of the best. Highly recommended. Pros: Impeccable Service, Modern Decor, Live Music Cons: , Small Sushi Portions, Crowded more

Mediocre at best. 8/18/2004

As asushi addict, I was very excited when I saw them opening a Japanese restaurant in the middle of little Greece. (I live around the block from this place). When they first opened, the food was above average for Queens standards, but below average for Manhattan standards but the service was fantastic that I kept going back, also due to lack of options. Now, only a year after they opened, I regret it every time I eat there. The sushi is mediocre at best, and the portions are pretty ungenerous considering the pricing. Consider hopping on the train to any Manhattan neighborhood sushi joint until something better turns up. Pros: cute environment, good service, neighborhood feel Cons: , bad value more

Authentic and delicious sushi 8/12/2004

I love Go Wasabi. The food is always fresh, the restaurant is clean and the wait staff is friendly. I recently went there with a friend of mine who had just spent two years living in Japan. He was skeptical that anything could live up to the food he had eaten in Japan, but he said this was the best japanese food he has had since being back in the US. Pros: Clean, Great Wait Staff more

not worth it! 7/27/2004

For a ""Japanese"" restaurant, it is not authentic Japanese food. The Nabeyaki Udon is not what I expected. It didn't have any of the things that usually come in it (chunks of chicken, shrimp tempura, kamaboko, etc). The sashimi dinner, raw fish, was fresh but very little in portion. It was not worth the $13 that it was. The sushi was small as well. There was hardly any rice under the raw fish. The sushi rice had no taste to it as well. We were definitely disappointed. Pros: cleanliness, service Cons: , not authentic more
