Goong Jeon Restaurant

This has got to be the WORST place I ve EVER experienced. The Waitress was very rude and disrespectful to start. We almost and should have left before we even got our food. When the food actually came it was horrific. When we commented the food wasn t very good and didn t taste fresh she chuckled and said maybe better next time. We said there won t be a next time. and she chuckled and said were strange. We got a sampler for 2 and a chicken fried rice as a kids meal. Nothing was good enough to eat so we left 99% of the food behind. 65 dollars worth of crap. There wasn t even enough food to make a meal for one ( even if it was edible. ) They made no offers to try anything else or make our experience better. Was shocked when she complained we didn t leave a tip and chased us to the door. AVOID at all cost. We should have known better . A Friday night there was NO ONE inside and when we ordered iced tea to drink they said they didn t make any tea today.... Im still burping the rotten fish just from a tini taste. I hope I don t get sick. more

Save yourself the money. This was probably the worst meal I have ever had in my entire life, and I have traveled to many, many countries. The food was absolutely disgusting, and to make matters worse, the fish wasn't even fresh. Then there was the service, which was equally horrible. When we walked in at 6:20 pm on a Friday night, they seemed confused that they had customers and nobody knew what to do. Then I noticed that we were the only ones in there. That should have been my tip-off. The waitress, while taking our order, acted surprised when I told her that my little girl, who was dressed in a purple shirt, pink shorts and pink glasses, was indeed a girl. Then she joked about being equally surprised that my date was a man. Then she laughed at us when we told her that the food was horrible, and didn't seem to care when she saw that we left 80% of the meal uneaten, and we told her we would not be back. To add insult to injury, the bill came to over $60 and I decided not to leave a tip due to the fact that the food was horrible and so was the service. She literally chased me down as I was leaving, demanding a tip, which I refused. As I was walking out, I heard her exclaiming to another table of customers that I hadn't left a tip. I met a client here for lunch. He is a Korean national and recommended the restaurant.\r \r The Sign outside was in Korean with Goong Jeon in much smaller font that was difficult to see when driving by Crain Highway- fortunately we like most have navigation.\r \r I had a negative experience but only because of my timing. There were 3 Korean tour buses which arrived while I was walking in so the place was packed and the service while very friendly was lacking because they were just overwhelmed.\r \r The buffet was out of the question, only again because of the crowd. I was lucky to get a table. One thing I liked was a button on the table that summoned the waitress. This helped greatly. \r \r I ordered the Miyuk Gook- which sounded really good (light seaweed and beef soup), instead I recieved Miso soup. No big deal, having waited tables in my youth I understood. The Miso Soup was very good.\r \r My client had several recommendations, and I was disappointed that none of them were from the authentic Korean section. Incidentally they offer Chinese and Japanese fare too.For the main course I ordered the Moo Mandu (beef and vegetable dumplings)- this wasn't prepared very well. Probably because the kitchen was rushed.\r \r We never saw our waitress again after she took our order, other staff took care of us- thank goodness for that button at the end of the table.\r \r I think if I return, it will be during a week night. We've eaten at Goong Jeon before several years ago and was not impressed with the service. It was bizarre how the waitresses were constantly running back and forth even though it wasn't that busy.\r \r After reading the good reviews on Yelp today, we decided to give it another try tonight. The service is still AWFUL! There were 2 other tables being served. When we were seated at a table, we were not given menus. I had to grab the menu myself. When the waitress finally showed up, she was very impatient that we bothered her by asking if they had duboki. After answering that question, she just ran off. We finally had enough and left without ordering. Instead, we ate at Thai Cafe across the street. The service there is much better!\r \r I'm shocked by the glowing Citysearch & Yelp reviews of Goong Jeon. It makes me wonder if these reviews are generated by people associated with the restaurant. This is the best Korean Restaurant outside of Korea. In fact, it is better than some of the places in Korea. The service is great; the food is authentic; access is unparalleled. If you like this type of cuisine, it doesn't get better! more

This is the best Korean restaurant in Central Maryland, hands down. My mom, a native of Seoul, first introduced me to this place and it's always full of Koreans. She is friendly with the staff, as well, so the food is extra good when we order. I've been to too many other places that over-cater to Americans, even cutting some vital items from the menu. Goong Jeon -- the Palace to you Westerners -- is the best, taste the best, and second only to mom. Seriously, if I lived closer, I'd weigh a lot more. Pros: Ample parking, good prices, no compromise on autheticity. Cons: You eat so much, it hurts. more

I went there mid-week in August. The service is decent and attentive. The food was OK. Not nearly as good as you get in NYC or West Coast. I had the Bibum Bop and the spicy chicken wings. The kimchee was very good. This is a good place to eat if you are in the BWI area, but I would not make a special trip there. Pros: Good kimchee, plenty of parking Cons: The food is average more

Ample pandan, good entrees, braziers in your table for cook-your-own bulgoki, nice sushi - whats not to like? Also very nice to kids, and great for a big group. The food is traditional, no-frills home-cooked-good. Pros: Nice location on Main Street in Glen Burnie. Cons: Can't think of one more

It's always a good sign when you walk into a restaurant and the folks native to the locale in question are eating there. Such is the case with Goong Jeon restaurant. This restaurant was originally recommended to me by an Army civilian. The gentleman in question was formerly an Army service member (like myself). However, unlike me, he had married a Korean national while stationed in Korea. Long story short: if a native Korean recommends a restaurant such as Goong Jeon... it is worth checking out! My wife and I are connoisseurs of Korean food (at least, as much as you can be on the East Coast), and enjoyed the mandu, kimchi, and kalbi/galbi in this restaurant. Menus are in Hangul/Korean with English ""subtitles""; it's best to do your homework on the food selection prior to your visit. Prices are moderate and well worth the amounts charged. I enjoyed this place. I have eaten at many Korean resturaunts (and homes) and found this place to be good if you are in the area. I recall the table grilles to be coal fired (actually some kind of solid fuel) they bring to the table and put inside. Very nice touch! If you like BBQ ask for Kalbi - BBQ short ribs - magnificent!
