Goodwill

The Goodwill is very good for people who can't afford expensive clothes. They have clothes, electronics, lamps, glassware and more. It's difficult to find a brand new item. I come here sometimes not to buy but to donate some clothes. You can donate your old clothes whenever. There is always people in need. I bought a few items here some jeans and pants years ago. They used to have better clothes and better deals. Now I feel that they are too expensive. People are struggling but Goodwill prices are rising. They make me unahappy because I donate my clothes. I want people to be able to buy them and enjoy them. I don't want people to find a nice item and look at the tag and be like I can't afford it. What is the point? They have colored tags. All the prices are on a board in the middle of the store. The staff is mixed and respectful. I dislike that this place give me allergies because the old clothes smell. You never know what you'll find here. Sometimes there are great, name brand things (Gap, Old Navy, Talbots, etc.). You need to be very careful about things that are stained or damaged. Sometimes you get very lucky and stumble upon a great find, and sometimes you leave empty handed. The prices are sometimes high for a thrift shop ($5 for a pair of sweats?), and over the past couple of years they keep raising them. But they get new stuff every day, and sometimes they have a lot of great stuff. The staff often seems confused about prices or the daily specials. Now they print a monthly calendar of all the upcoming specials (like 1/2 off day, etc.). more

The Central Square Goodwill is a strange mix of 4832578439754 huge shaker knit sweaters from the 1980's, and a smattering of high-end stuff that you can hardly believe you found. There are occasional vintage pieces. And of course everything is cheap. After a while you'll learn how to whip past the 80's sweaters. The book selection isn't great and the whole place has that "Goodwill smell" that comes on a lot of donated merchandise. Watch for regular sales. more
