Not Worth the Hassle!!!! 8/16/2011

I wish I could give this place a negative review. It pains me to even give it one star. We decided to visit Goodson's this evening and it was the worst decision of my day. It was not busy yet we were unable to get a refill on our drinks. When our food came out we were immediately asked how is everything. We thought everything looks good, thanks. Now the CFS and CFC was good and warm....the rest of the meal was freezing. We had mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. When our waitress came back to ask us how everything was I told her these items are cold we can't eat them. She said she was sorry and would take them to the manager. She said this happens all of the time and even when she eats there she has to get the item reheated. She asked if we wanted to have more brought out to us and unfortunately after waiting forever just for her to come back so we could tell them it was bad we just wanted to leave. I in no way wanted free food. I did however expect them to right their wrong with the food we were unable to eat. When she brought us the check nothing had changed. No price difference and yet no offer of our food to take it home and have the option to reheat it ourselves. Our waitress wouldn't even look us in the eyes at this point as she knew what her manager had told her. I was upset that a manager wouldn't come to speak with us so as I was leaving I asked to speak with the manager on duty. Now let me tell you about the unkind soul named Santos. When explaining the situation to him on how I was not happy with the fact that my food was cold and wasn't given a solution. He began to argue back with me and tell me it was my fault for not complaining in time. I kid you not. He said you placed your order at 7:26 and didn't complain until thirty minutes later. I was like really? It took us almost twenty minutes to get our food. When we did I didn't cram the food down my throat immediately to check it's temperature. He said well the waitress asked if everything was okay and you said yes. I said that was the second she set the plate down on the table was I supposed to eat a bite of everything before she left? He said it didn't matter he checked the time and we didn't complain in the right amount of time. I told him well we had to order, the food had to be made, and we never saw our waitress for atleast 15 minutes as I was never able to get even one refill. He kept going back to the fact of the time. At this point we realized we were getting no where with him and he still could not offer a solution. We told him at this point we just wanted the food to be boxed up that we paid for yet they didn't give us. He went back got us our sides boxed and and then continued to apologize to me. An apology to me is an admittal to the fact that you did something wrong. Why couldn't he just admit that at the beginning? His lack of professionalism and horrible customer service is what will keep me away from this place forever. I will never go back. The food is mediocre at best. Definitely not the best in Texas. There are plenty of other options to eat at save yourself the hassel and go elsewhere. more

Satisfying.... 7/4/2011

I love the huge chicken fried steaks. I took my girlfriend and my sister in law here. The fried okra is to live for, it tastes great. The chicken fried steaks are wonderful. I did not like the heavy bread rolls and the white gravy was not on my list of favorites, but my friends loved it. You just have to try this one yourself. more

Finally A Restaurant Worth The Money 4/7/2009

We heard a rumor that Ma and Pa Goodson were back and running the Goodson's Cafe. We had been fans of the Cafe in the past but had not had good experiences the last few visits. We were SO pleased. Our Family of four, which included two hungry teenage diners, were able to enjoy a Wonderful meal including drinks and deserts for around $50.00. The wait staff was johnny on the spot with refills, extra napkins, or whatever we needed. The food was served hot, and everything had wonderful flavor. We're still trying to figure out how their french fries taste like lays bar-b-que potatoe chips... The Chicken Fried Steaks were Huge, the veggies had great flavor to them, and the bananna pudding was better than my homemade. We will definately be returning. For once we didn't feel like we were being ripped off...If you want some wonderful food, fantastic service, and a quaint atmosphere, GO TO GOODSON'S! ! ! ! Pros: The Chicken Fried Steak is the best around Cons: We coulndn't find any cons more
