the place to go in Hampden 4/8/2006

The Golden West Cafe is what Cafe Hon wants to be, I think---or something like that. They have a similar funky atmostphere and decor with mismatched chairs and dishes and flatware, but the Golden West Cafe's menu is way more interesting and the food is much better. The service was quick and friendly. It can be a little drafty in winter so be sure to wear a sweater. more

super duper french toast! 3/22/2006

Breakfast at the Golden West Cafe is outstanding! Lunch and dinner is great too, but they really shine with the breakfast foods. Luckily, they're available all day. The new system bakery french toast with apples and honey is not to be missed. The restaurant is cute and funky inside. Be sure to bring change for the metered parking outside. more

Good breakfast, but not cheap... 2/21/2006

The Golden West Cafe is a very kitschy locale to stop for food in Hampden. Like most of the surrounding businesses, it has a very unique atmosphere inside--lots of character. Though the food was indeed tasty, and portions were very large, prices were a little on the high side. Nonetheless, they have some very unique southwestern-y options for breakfast that I've never seen elsewhere. A good place to try at least once! more

Striking Gold 2/4/2006

The Golden West Cafe is a funky little café in downtown Hampden. They're known for their innovation in taste and vegetarian specialties, so vegetarians, dig in! Prices are comparable to the other little cafés in Hampden, but be prepared to drop a few dollars. There's not a ton of seating, but I've never seen a wait to get in. Try this place for lunch, and I guarantee your stomach will thank you! more

Great Alternative To Cafe Hon in Hampden Area 8/5/2005

Right off the bat I would recommend their sandwiches to you because they are really hearty and fresh. I love to get the mozzarella and tomato sandwich with a pesto spread. The mozzarella comes in huge chunks and the pesto is made to perfection. The bread is a big crusty bun that works perfectly with the cheese and tomato. The sandwich also comes with a side: garlic fries (reaaaaaaaly tasty if you don't mind feeling guilty afterwards), the side salad (ok, the dressing is a little strange), and peanut noodles (I don't like the sauce at all, but you can still try it I suppose). I've also tried their sandwich which had apples and gorgonzola cheese which really makes my tummy happy. I've heard that their breakfast food is really yummy too, and they serve it all day. It's a really cool and eclectic place that is very vegetarian friendly. Try it for brunch if you are in the Hampden area and don't feel like going to Cafe Hon right down the street. more
