Golden Palace Restaurant

Like other reviewers I agree that one should not judge this restaurant by its surroundings. Once you're inside it's very pleasant with deep booths, warm lighting, and tasteful decor. As for the food, it's the first Chinese food where I threw out the leftovers. It's not because their food is worse than any other Chinese restaurant, but it was so similar to all the other bland boring ""Chinese"" food I've ever had that this restaurant was just the last straw. If you're craving Asian food, go to Ganesh Indian restaurant down the road instead, it'll blow your mind! more

Let me just start by warning you up front about the location. The building isn't anything great. It's near falling apart and the location itself is nothing fantastic. However, get over the outside. Your not eating the building. I have gone here most of my life for chinese food with my parents. I can only stress that Longview doesn't have much for food. We are the capital of fast food and nothing really more. However, after moving away 11 years ago, I found myself craving Longview Pizza and Longview Chinese. The chinese being Golden Palace. I've lived in a lot of cities and traveled to dozens more including cities in Europe and Asia. Let's just say that Chinese in London, China itself, and many other cities just doesn't compare. Every city we moved to I tried every restaurant and found an item or two that was good but never enough to make me swear that no matter what you order it will be awesome. I love there egg rolls, the bbq pork isn't fatty it's great, any of the chicken dishes are amazing. Specifically I'm addicted to the Sweet and Sour, they don't make a pink artificial coloring pile of gel, it's awesome. The chow mein isn't your usual noodle version its vegetables and crunchy noodles. I could go on and on. This is the place to eat chinese. Worldwide it kicks b... Pros: Great Service, Decent Atmosphere, Great Pricing, Amazing Portions and Food. Cons: Exterior run down and not a lot of surrounding windows, just the front facing of the restaurant so at night it can feel dark. more

I had this place recommended to me by a friend who lives in Longview. When I first arrived at the Golden Palace I was unsure what to expect. It's located in a little strip mall in a little town and the outer appearance blends in with the rest of the town, which is to say a tad run down. All of that changed when I went inside. The decor was nice and the wait staff helpful, but real plus of this establishment was the food. The portions were large, the prices reasonable and the taste was outstanding! Having been to Hong Kong and China I can assure you that the food, while not completely un-Americanized, is on a par with what you would get in Asia. We went here because it had been rated so highly in the local ""Year's Best"" list, and on Citysearch. The location is stunningly bad - crumbling - from the outside, and looks like a strip joint or card room, but the decor is nice on the inside. No windows, making my spouse feel claustrophobic.
