Best

Being sick for the past week, I was in dire need of good pho, which means choosing to drive to the south bay or hit up the SGV. The SGV obviously being the better choice. Now, the...

Worst

I have been to this restaurant several times couple years ago, but everytime after eating there I had to drink lots of water. They put too much MSG. I had better Pho elsewhere. Th...

don't bring any vegetarians 4/12/2006

Golden Deli pretty much follows the traditional route of Viet cuisine which is that everything is stuffed with pork or beef. the closests you'll find to a vege dish at this place is at the ""VegeTable"" restaurant in the same strip mall. I'm sure it all tastes good but the idea of vegetarianism is alien to this restaurant, so be forewarned. Pros: Authentic cuisine Cons: No vegetarian dishes, parking, crowded more

try the chicken curry! 3/2/2006

this is by far the best vietnamese place in la! although its known for its pho and cha gio (which are both delicious!) i always get the chicken curry, the meat falls off the bone and the potatoes are stewed to perfection. ambience isn't all that, but your food comes out quickly and it will never disappoint. and the value!!! you can't beat it. Pros: inexpensive, tastiness Cons: crowded, parking more

try this! 1/5/2006

the food here is excellent! my friend recommended this place because they have the best pho, but after frequent visits and many dishes on the menu, i became hooked. everything on the menu is divine, and i highly recommend this place if you are looking for exotic food. Pros: food, drinks, service Cons: line, parking more

Best Eggrolls and Pho 8/11/2005

I've been going to this place for over a decade. The food is consistently fresh and tasty. The egg rolls are crisp and the pork/shrimp filling is amazing. The pho and other noodle soups are light and flavorful. They always give tons of condiments (bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, lime) for the soups. The service is excellent...Very nice. It is always busy, however, give the restaurant that is across the street (horizontal) a try because they serve the exact same food since the same family owns both!! It is called ""Vietnam House"" and it also serves 7-course beef. Plus, Vietnam House is larger and can accomodate larger parties. Pros: Pho, Egg rolls, Sweet drinks Cons: Popular more

One of the originals and clean! 9/25/2004

At least they have been in business forever as far as I can remember. The food here is clean and deliciously done. The service is quick and easy like any Vietnamese restaurants which does not require any people skills. The price is exceptional for what they serve, this is it if you're hungry for vietnamese soup! There's always a line outside and I know why. Pros: Good food, Clean, prompt Cons: , parking more

Best Vietnamese Food In Los Angeles 4/27/2004

Seriously folks, if you want Vietnamese food the way your mom did it or the way it's done in Vietnam, you've got to come eat here. Every dish I've had here has been outstanding. The prices are cheap, on average $5 a plate. They do everything well here. Those who complain about the service probably haven't eaten at a lot of authentic Asian restaurants. This is how the service generally is. They're there to bring you your food, not to give you the spa treatment. Besides, I find them all to be very friendly, in an efficient way. That's not what you're here for anyway. You're here to eat the best Vietnamese food in socal at amazing prices. Pros: food, prices Cons: , parking lot is a mess more

Stay away- if you are vegetarian! 12/12/2003

First of all, do not go to this restaurant if you are vegetarian. there is not one dish for people who do not eat meat. even the vegetable eggrolls i ordered, they brought out and then said, oh- they have meat. no one there speaks or understands english well so they do not understand what you order or ask. the service was horrible- never asked us how the food was, if we needed something else, we had to ask for the check. they only take CASH. no credit cards. Cons: no vegetarian food, service, only cash accepted more

A Bowl of Heaven 11/9/2003

Who knew that heaven's gateway extended into San Gabriel? This place is truly the most delectable of all Vietnamese cuisines... yes, even better than Little Saigon. GD serves the best pho and rice dishes. If you're a serious pho fan, you'll enjoy the soup. It's loaded with msg, but that's okay, you can just drink more water afterwards. To start with, their egg rolls (cha gio) are delicious. They serve 5, not 4. The charbroiled-pork-egg-cake rice dish and charbroiled pork vermicelli are also favorites. But be prepared to wait... I've waited 45 minutes for a party of 4 once. The best time to go is between 2-6 pm. ***Business is so good here, that GD takes a month off every summer. That should say something. Oh yeah, service is good too. Pros: Pho, Pho, Pho Cons: LOOOOOOOOOOOOO, NNNNNNNNNNGGGGG, wait more

cheap pho! 7/16/2003

one of the best pho places in the san gabriel valley. theres like some special seasoning in the pho that makes in hard for other restaurants to copy their noodle. even though this place is such a hit, the owners still keep the prices very low (lower than places that taste crappy). definitely try this place. o btw, parking there sucks and theres usually a line. Pros: cheap, good Cons: crowded, bad parking more

Wow! 3/26/2003

I've never had it so good. Every single thing I've tried here has been awesome. Pho, sandwiches, red bean drink, eggrolls, rice bowls--all super fresh and delicious. You can't beat the price, either. Two people can eat for $10. The downside is it can be very crowded. Avoid peak times, or be prepared to wait. Pros: sooooo good., CHEAP Cons: crowded at peak hours more

#1 Vietnamese Food 12/2/2002

This is definitely THE best overall Vietnamese restaurant in southern california. I've tried many other places, but still can't find anything remotely similar to this place. I normally don't like to try different things on the menu (in case it's not that great), but I've tried several at this place, and NOT one of them have been less than perfect. I highly recommend this place. The owners also have another restaurant horizontally across the intersection which also serves 7 courses of beef. Pros: Inexpensive, Fast Service, Hot Foods more

Vietnamese Rating 7/17/2002

Golden Deli is probably one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Los Angeles County. They have a very extensive, authentic menu, and you will definitely be full afterwards. more

A Golden Dream 6/17/2002

When my family first moved into San Gabriel 12 years ago, this was one of the first restaurants we went to and we haven't stopped going there since. The eggrolls are wonderful and come with lettus and more to wrap them in, making them even better. The soups are the treasure of this rare find. They are light, full of flavor, and very filling. top off your meal with an ice coffee that is made right in-front of you. it's always busy for dinner, so be prepared for an hours wait. Parking is a huge problem so skip the parking lot and find a spot on the street. This is on my top 5 resaurants that i can't live without. groups bigger than 8 is a problem. Pros: food, price, experience Cons: parking, size of restaurant more

Best pho in Los Angeles 6/10/2002

EASILY the best pho in all of Los Angeles, in a family/fast-food style atmosphere. Golden Deli is ALWAYS packed, so be prepared to wait. Check out the array of cold dessert drinks as well - yummy! more
