Our family enjoyed a wonderful family reunion this Fall at Golden Bear Cottages. Their entire staff was extremely helpful throughout the year-long group planning process of this big reunion (approximately 200 family members). Each individual family was made to feel ""special"" by everyone from the owners, to the front office staff, to the maids and maintenance people. We were treated like royalty as a group with every request being taken care of promptly and professionally. The cabins were each beautifully decorated, clean and so charming! Everyone had such a great time that we are already planning another family reunion for next year at Golden Bear Cottages. Our family came from all over the US. We all voted and this is the only place that we have ever liked so much that we plan to make it an annual Golden Bear Cottages reunion! 'Thanksgivings we remember! We spent 4 days at Golden Bear Cottages both of these past 3 years for the Thanksgiving holiday. The first time we went to Big Bear lake we were looking for a clean family vacation retreat, and we really found a good one here. We truly enjoyed the hospitality at Golden Bear Cottages. Our 3 children were constantly in and out of the office to borrow sports equipment and ask questions about when the lifts open and so many other things, and the great people there make them feel comfortable each time. Their request was that we return to Golden Bear every year for the holidays. We have already booked a three bedroom cottage for our extended family for this Thanksgiving. It will make our fourth straight year at Golden Bear and we can't wait to get there again. Our family review rating: This is the best place to stay in Big Bear Lake. See you soon!' more

Bad deal! 3/31/2012

Upon arrival, our cabin had a weird smell. We assumed its because of the fireplace and we weren't use to it. On the day of our departure, we discovered aged old dog feces in the closet! We told the front desk, they said sorry and gave us a gift card. I don't think so! A couple days later they overcharged us for our stay! What a horrible experience. more

We love Golden Bear Cottages!! 8/27/2011

Our entire family just left beautiful Golden Bear Cottages in Big Bear Lake, California. They hosted our family reunion for the first time. Even though we usually change locations every year, the whole family decided to come back to Golden Bear again next year (and some of our family members who live closer are planning to come back this winter). Golden Bear has the perfect facilities to host a family reunion of or size, which was about 200. The owners and their entire staff were absolutely phenomenal! They catered to all of our needs and bent over backwards to make sure we had a great time. All of the cabins were clean and well stocked and the maids made sure that we always had clead towels and that our cabins were well kept. Even though we were all more than content to spend most of our time on the beautiful grounds and in our quaint, rustic cottages at Golden Bear we planned one special outing in Big Bear each day for those who wanted to participate. We were amazed at the number of things there are to do in Big Bear! In the 15 years that we have been having our big reunion we have never enjoyed a more serene and beautiful location with so many activities available to family members of all ages. I am a photographer and I enjoyed taking pictures of the beautiful wildflowers and even got shots of a mama and baby bear who were out at 6:00 a.m. Several of our famiy members enjoyed a Civic Light Opera performance at the Performing Arts Center. Others went on the scenic skychair and caught the most beautiful views of the entire valley below. Some of our younger family members did a lot of hiking and found that there were trails for all levels of hikers. Biking and quad riding went over really well with some of our more hearty famlly members. Many of our elders enjoyed the sunset cruise around the lake. I don't think any of us realized how many multi-million dollar mansions were around the perimeter of the lake! It was breathtaking. There was also lots to do for the chidren. Their favorite places were the zoo, the Discovery Center, and of course, going in a boat on the lake. All in all this was the very best reunion we have ever enjoyed - and we owe it to Golden Bear Cottages. Our families will be booking their cottages for August 2012!!!! more

We give a top accommodations review to Golden Bear Cottages 9/27/2010

Last summer we made our first visit to Golden Bear Cottages Christian family resort. It was perfect for our family of 5.. We were upgraded to a large comfortable cabin without even asking... The 'Shaggy Bear' cabin was beautiful, clean and well stocked with clean towels and kitchen utensils. The owner is very sweet and gracious.. We can not wait to return... My boys (15, 13 and 5) are already asking when can go back and we just came back home yesterday! Looking forward to our next trip to Big Bear and the Golden Bear Cottages. We give a top accommodations review to Golden Bear Cottages. more

Love the cabins all over again 9/19/2009

Yes, we loved the Cabins again! We live just down the hill in Apple Valley and we were delighted to find such a beautiful place to stay in Big Bear that is so close to home. This was our third visit to Golden Bear and we stayed in cabin #6 'Pooh's Corner'. Since it is one of the pet friendly cabins, we again brought our 10 year old poodle. We enjoy the convenience of the pet yard for her at the back of our cabin. As always the cabin was immaculate and very cozy. It was decorated just perfectly with mountain-like decor. When we checked in, the same family staff was so friendly and professional. They always treat us like family, and we ended up staying an extra day again. The rates are still reasonable, so we were able to afford to enjoy lots of Big Bear Lake activities. We always brag to our friends and family about Golden Bear. Review from a family who has been there many times 8/22/2009

We have going to Golden Bear Cottages for 25 years and continue to go back as much as time and money permits. The owners - are all the nicest people. They bend over backwards to help you have the best experience staying with them. The cabins are always very clean and well maintained as is the entire six acre resort property. With the heated pool and spa, horse shoe pit, basketball court, ping pong, volleyball court, and play ground its easy to keep as active as you want. If you want to relaxe you can BBQ next to your cabin or sit in the pool or jacuzzi. We like to sit by the pool and play Yatzee. We highly recommend staying at historic Golden Bear Cottages and tell all our friends and family if they are in Big Bear they should stay at Golden Bear Cottages!!! We joined their Vacation Club last visit so we can return to Golden Bear more often! Our children have even worked at the resort in the summer over the years to help with their school expenses. ANOTHER OVER CHARGE by Golden Bear Cottages 7/31/2009

My family and I reserved a large cabin for Thanksgiving. Golden Bear Cottages charged our credit card for the deposit when we made the reservation. Months later when we stayed and they charged our credit card the other 1/2 of the bill. \r Once home, we did not have a chance to go over our credit card statement since it was around the Holidays and we had many visitors from out of town. Later we found they charged us a third time (HUNDREDS OF DOLLORS over what they should have.) \r I contacted the office and faxed copies of credit cards statements their Office Manager but she is not returning calls and HAS NOT REFUNDED OUR MONEY. Although she could see THEY OVERCHARGED us, she said we should have contacted them sooner. \r Since then, we have found MANY other individuals posting reviews that had their DEBIT OR CREDIT CARDS OVER CHARGED! Seems they have a habit of this!\r I would NOT RECOMMAND staying here! There are MANY other very nice places in Big Bear –\r DON""T THROOUGH AWAY YOUR MONEY!\r \r Update: Golden Bear Cottages LOSSES in court for OVER CHARGING! Without much effort anyone can see their history of OVER CHARGING 'guests.' Read past reviews and the Better Business Bureaus ""F"" rating As of 5/12/2010 they listed ""22"" complaints of OVER CHARGING. See if the number has gone up www .la.bbb . org /Business-Report/ case/Golden-Bear-Cottages-13065236. They also did this to me & I had to take them to court! Only after being served court paperwork did they refund me the principle amount. A few days after that they refunded me another 'part' of the interest and court fees. I followed through with the court case to obtain the small balance owed and to make sure others know they can not trust Golden Bear Cottages! I won the case and will make sure Everyone Knows -DON'T TRUST Golden Bear Cottages!!! Pros: Big Bear Lake is great Cons: OVER CHARGED HUNDREDS to CREDIT CARDS more

Luv to Travel to Golden Bear Cottages 1/6/2009

Vasquez family review. I had wanted to take my mom and dad to Golden Bear Cottages, for a long time. I had heard very positive things about this resort for a long time. Since so many of my family members wanted to go along as well, we decided to rent the biggest cottage at the resort. That way we could have family coming and going all week and would have room for everybody. We live in nearby Southern California cities so this getaway is perfect for us. The weather was perfect, in the low to mid seventies, while the weather at home was in the high nineties. Our cabin was perfect for our family. We had plenty of room in the huge kitchen for everybody who wanted to cook in our family ?chicken cook off? to join in! There was a huge dining room that seats 22 plus a great game room with poker tables, a pool table, and a foosball table. Our three level cottage was comfortable for all who either came to visit or for everyone who stayed for the week. Many of our family members spent much of the week at the beautiful Golden Bear pool and outdoor spa. The setting in the centuries old pine trees is breathtaking! The kids played ping-pong, basketball, volleyball, and other sports at the resort. There was even a great playground for the small kids. Golden Bear has a gift shop, movie rentals, a huge selection of board games, card games, and karaoke plus a library of new hardback books for those who may forget to bring something to read. We had never seen so many great amenities at a vacation destination. Our entire experience at Golden Bear Cottages was just wonderful! We will definitely make this an annual event for our family, one that we will all look forward to. All of our needs were met. The housekeeping staff and the front office staff made us feel at home, providing great service with smiles and even hugs! I highly recommend Golden Bear Cottages to anyone who wants a wonderful get-a-way for their family and friends. We?ll be back! Golden Bear Cottages, a family kind of place 10/13/2005

What a blessing it was to find this place in Big Bear Lake! With our hectic schedule in the city, we needed a place to relax and spend quality time together. Golden Bear is the place! It is close to home (only about an hour), but it is like a different world. The people at the resort are so friendly. They even ask if they can do special things for you. They treated our 3 children like they were their own, and treated us like family. That's refreshing! We plan to go back in the winter too, so our kids can enjoy the snow. The place to stay in Big Bear lake 7/11/2005

We have been going to Big Bear since I was a little kid. My family always stayed at Golden Bear Cottages. Now that we have our own family we stay there too. Over the years, this property has turned into a full resort. The DiCarlo's and Duran's, who own Golden Bear Cottages just keeping adding great things to do at the resort. Along with all the outdoor activities, they now have ""Family Movie Nights"" at the pool and spa. You can also book a massage in the salon at unbelievably low prices. A retreat from the city 7/4/2005

We were reccommended to Golden Bear cottages resort by a friend. They told us it was the best place to go and relax in the mountains. They were right!
