Not Family Friendly 3/25/2012

Servers were rude, the food is over priced, the baked items are stale and if you take children you will get dirty looks from the staff. Also the owner is very rude. more

Too snobbish for mustard? 7/18/2009

Gold Street is a favorite of mine for breakfast and an undiscovered gem for a light dinner. Their hamburger is memorable, but they do not provide mustard (except honey mustard, which does not really count). I'll return, but first I'll stop by a fast-food joint and snag a couple of packets of mustard. Pros: Great food, including sandwiches Cons: Who ever heard of a hamburger without mustard? more

Best Egg's Benedict ever!! 2/3/2009

Going to Gold Street for breakfast is a special treat for my family. The food is always delicous and the service is great. Their green chili biscuits are to die for and their coffee is the best!! I don't normally like Egg's Benedict, but their special Southwestern Benedict is so unbelievably good, I crave it!!! Pros: Yummy food! Cons: A little pricey more

Dinner was a pleasant suprise 8/19/2008

I've been going to this stalwart downtown spot for years to get my breakfast and lunch fix. I recently discovered their dinner while seeing a flick downtown. Seriously stellar. I had the fish special, which seemed like a gamble, and was blown away. My wife had the enchilades with mole. Thankfully she doensn't eat much so I got to take down some of that, too. There's seems to be a (mis)conception that there aren't many quality downtown restaurants for dinner. Not true, apparently. Pros: Great food, good price and still a secret. Cons: Not open after bar. more

reliable and relaxed 6/22/2008

I have to disagree with the reviews below- Gold Street Caffe is no place for stuffy food or service, and that is exactly why I appreciate its relaxed scene, delicious breakfasts, and pleasant service. The restaurant is always busy which is a clear indication that good word gets out about this place. My server was efficient and pleasant, and my breakfast (the Eggs Benedict) was tasty as always. I hope this business remains the same: bustling, and pleasant as always. Perhaps a busy restaurant is a positive reflection, not a negative one. Pros: great food and service Cons: not exactly cheap more

BAD Service, Great Food 6/22/2008

My wife and I hadn't been to Gold Street in a while (we experienced poor service six months earlier). We arrived and the wait staff didn't acknowledge for over one minute, which can seem like an eternity when standing there waiting for someone to at least state, ""I'll be right with you."" In any case, we were greeted by a waitress who wanted to give us crappy seating, I asked if we could have a window seat, and she looked at me curtly and I said, ""will that be a problem?"" To which she replied, ""no, we can sit you there."" We ordered drinks and when she brought them she forgot my coffee. I didn't say anything, and we ordered our food. I was in the mood for basics, so I ordered the 3 to the Third Power breakfast consisting of 3 each of eggs, bacon and toast, and a side of fruit, and my wife ordered poached eggs and toast. All in all a pretty simple breakfast. Gold Street cafe can make a simple breakfast great. \r \r The food came to us before my coffee did, however, which is uncalled for (I had to get up and go to the counter to ask for it, because the waitress did not come by to check on us). But, back to the breakfast, it was amazing. The eggs were cooked just right, and the bacon and toast as well. The waitress did not come back to fill our coffee until we were finished with our meal, and drop off the check. She forgot the coffee to begin with, we didn't get checked on throughout the meal, but after the check arrived, she returned to our table 3 times in a 6 minute period to see if I had presented payment. We liked the food at Gold Street, but again the service was far below standard. Heck, I don't think they have a standard there. We won't be back to Gold Street until it changes ownership, or undergoes a serious makeover including their management. With proper management the right people will be hired, and trained to serve not just exist and get by doing the minimum, and expecting kudos for their lack of effort. Like, ""I exist, therefore, tip me."" Pros: food, scones Cons: service more

Slow and inefficient service 5/14/2008

The restaurant is more of a socializing spot for the staff who ignore the patrons and talk loudly about their personal lives... good luck in getting prompt service- especially if you need to get back to work in a timely manner. Pros: food is fresh Cons: service is lousy more

amazing scones! 3/31/2005

I was in Albuquerque recently and tried the Gold Street Caffe for breakfast. The food was amazing - I had the cowboy breakfast, which was scrambled eggs and ham (I substituted bacon) in a green chile scone with a side of fruit salad. Delicious! The coffee was great too, and I am a coffee lover. The service was fast and pleasant. more
