Best ginger creme brulee!! 10/24/2007

I had my birthday dinner here thinking that it was BYOB from a previous review. I came to find out that they weren't BYOB, that in fact they had their own bar. The restaurant is spacious, more spacious than most sushi restaurants I've been to. And it has a very nice ambience as well as outdoor seating. We arrived about 5 minutes before happy hour ended and by the time we ordered, it was over, but they still accomodated the half priced mixed drinks for our first order. The sashimi and sushi was fresh and delicious. The ginger creme brulee was to die for. At first I wasn't going to try it because I really don't like ginger too much, but our waitress gave us a small sample and it was delicious!! Pros: creme brulee, ambience Cons: parking, price more

Amazing Sushi, Best Sake, anywhere 4/18/2007

New menu and new sushi bar are amazing. I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants across the nation, and also in Japan, so I know something of the ""Japanese"" tastes. Our Nile perch and Rib Eye Steak were simply perfect. Triple Sashimi Dinner with a Naruto Roll was just wonderful, with a clean taste and right portions, for our sashimi lover. Excellent Sake at much lower price than others. New Japanese management team with the new executive chef seems to be doing an excellent job in rebuilding this gem behind the Rodin Museum. No lunch, though its full kitchen is open late into the evening. Pros: Food Cons: Parking more

Little Tokyo of Philly!! 10/1/2006

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING... I've been to Tokyo and Goji offers so many dishes that I had in Tokyo. The Traditional menu cannot be beat by any Japanese restaurant in Philly. The Kasane Tempura Soba is delicious!! The Tempura tasted amazingly crispy and light. Smelled wonderful and had the same presentation as in Tokyo. One of my girlfriend had the seaweed salad and the King Crab Tempura. Ofcourse I stole some from her lol. My dinner reminded me of Tokyo so much. Cant wait to go back. Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance. Cons: Parking more

great dining experiences 10/1/2006

warm and cozy . spend your few hours with a good food , awesome atmosphere , and saketini on the glass , times will fly ! a litle bit make over on the dessert , will make this resaturant a top notch . my personal opinion will put this restautant level as a high class equal to nobu and morimoto . definetely must try ! Pros: this new restaurant set himself a high level !! Cons: high quality doesn't come cheap isn't it ? more

try only if you're really curious 9/30/2006

So after reading all the rave about this place, I decided to try it; that and the fact that I live just steps away from it. I was truely disappointed though. It was Saturday evening, and my friend and I were maybe one out the 5 customers there. My sashimi plate had the ""just thawed"" wet taste to it. A little scary. My rolls weren't any better than what I could get at any hole-in-the wall Japanese establishment in Philly. And my waiter. Like I said, there were maybe 5 customers there, but he always seemed busy and even forgot my appetizer. He checked on us maybe twice. Maybe it was an off night for this restaurant, but I'm not willing to part with a huge chunk of my money again just to double check. more

Freshest, most authentic Japanese food in Philadelphia 9/10/2006

Having visited Tokyo several times I find this restaurant is on a par with good food there, and the ambience is very attractive and relaxing. The servers are lovely and pleasant.\r When ""sushi"" is typed in a search box this name should come up first.\r Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: maybe parking difficulty more

The Best & Most Authentic Japanese in the City! 8/25/2006

Finally Philly has its own authentic Japanese restaurant. I have been complaining about the state of Philly's Japanese restaurant scene for years, and can't believe it is finally here. The food is excellent, service a bit unpolished but friendly, and the dining room is absolutely gorgeous.\r The menu is sophisticated and very innovative combining traditional Japanese cooking with modern dishes. I had the Shoguyaki pork and I have to say it was abslolutely divine. If you are looking for a pleasant night out without all the hoopla of center-city big name chains, come to Goji- you will not regret it. Pros: Friendly staff, pleasant and sophisticated ambiance, great food more

Authentic & Delicious 7/22/2006

This is real soba like I've only had in Japan. From the texture of the noodles, to the flavor of the sauce, it's all authentic and delicious! Soba is supposed to have a delicate, subtle flavor, so it may not appeal to the common denominator, but I'm happy that Goji chose to do it right and not compromise. The onigiri (rice ball) was fantastic too, as was the tempura (unlike so many squishy, overly battered, poor imitations you find in the US). I just wish Goji were located closer to the city-- 20th & Hamilton is pretty far out of my way. Pros: real Japanese food- yummy Cons: location more

Best sushi 6/16/2006

So far, Goji has the best sushi I have ever tried! The black dragon roll is a melt in your mouth experience consisting of delicious soft salmon complementing the light crunch of asparaus- and there's cavier. The crab leg tempura is also a must try dish-it consist of lightly battered bite size pieces of crab meat drizzled with a delicious honey truffle sauce. These are just some of the dishes that I have tried and I'm already impressed. Goji restaurant is a place that you realized you need to go again and again! Pros: nice ambience more

Delicious Delicious food!!! 5/12/2006

This is by far the best Japanese restaurant I have been to in the states. I have travelled to japan many times and the food there is incredible. It is completely different to what they serve as japanese food here in the states. But when I went to Goji's it was though if i went back to japan. I would totally recommend everything from the traditional menu it's outstanding especially the kasane tempura and the curry. The new style menu was so tasty too, it was so much better then the Nobu in NY, but the ceviche and the chicken with cherry tomatoe wasnt all that great. But all together I was so statisfied, I am definatly going back again!! Pros: delicious, real authentic, reasonable prices more

Good food- horrible service 4/24/2006

My friend and I were there this past Friday. We were seated immediately- however- we had to ask one of the many waiters and waitresses that dashed past us, if we could order. The server, apologized to usstating that there was only one sushi chef working that night, so we anticipated the wait. but the wait staff kept delivering food to our table that we didn't order! There was just alot of miscommunication between the staff. We had to grab random staff to get us refills on our water/wine! My friend use to be a waitress and she said that it didn't look like a busy night and they had plenty of staff to cover the ten tables. I must say that the food was excellent and the ambiance was wonderful, if Goji gets the service down- this will be a great place. Pros: food, wine Cons: service more

Exceptional authentic japaneese food 4/18/2006

This trendy restuarant is a must go for a nice romantic date. Bring your own favourite wine or try one of the many Japaneese drinks they serve, and enjoy the flavourful japaneese meal beautifully laid out on highly decorated platters. Pros: Varierty on the Menu, decor, Real value for money more

Amazing Food in Fairmount 3/27/2006

This is a great addition to the food scene in Fairmount. The food is great and the ambiance is amazing. The black cod with miso is better than what I had a Nobu in Las Vegas. And the best part they do not have the liquor license yet so it is BYOB! Bring your best bottle, your wallet and get ready for a great meal. The service is average - maybe better if you speak Japanese as I think most people there do. Pros: Balck Cod w/miso, BYOB! Cons: Price more
