BEST! 7/25/2011

i really disagree with the people who said it was bad, i have been ridding there since i was 7 and i am 14 now and i have learned a lot since i have been ridding. the trainers might come off mean at first but when you really get to know them they are really nice. they have a lot of schooling horses for each level of ridding, the only bad thing about it is that it is so popular that there isn't a lot of spots available so you can be put on the waiting list and they will get you in as soon as possible. i no some people say that they are ridding with other people, but that is as you progress on in you enjoyment of ridding that you will get to learn with another person. you have to start out with a private lesson first though. they have an indoor and an outdoor ring, so it is good thought the year, and my trainer is the best trainer you could ever have, she is nice, funny and really takes her job seriously. so i highly recommend this stable for anyone of all ages to come here to learn how to ride. more

I LOVE IT! 7/14/2011

I have been frequenting Bewley's for years. As my houses have grown and my furniture tastes have grown up, Bewley's has been there for me. The range of furniture goes from very basic, starter furniture, to high-end products like leather sofas and tempurpedic mattresses. The sales staff is friendly and will show you around or allow you to shop at your leisure. It is not like many of the stores in town where you almost feel untrusted as the sales staff stalks you around the store. At Bewley's you almost feel like you are just looking at the furniture in a friend's living room.I will continue to update and refresh my home at Bewley's. It is a pleasure to shop there and to purchase from there. more

Highly recommended 6/20/2011

Glen Grove is a decent facility for being so close to downtown Chicago. There are 90 stalls and multiple businesses being run out of the facility. They have a trainer for people looking to go to larger shows and instructors to teach people doing this once a week. The lesson program is huge with a wide variety of lesson horses. (in response to the other comment...the lesson horses are turned out every day and working students are assigned to them each day to make sure they are groomed and put away properly.) The trainers are organized and provide a training program for each owner/horse. The vet care is also fantastic for both private horses and lesson horses. i recommend this barn if your looking for a convenient and well run place close to downtown. more

I love Glen Grove! 6/16/2011

"I have been riding for one year, and i am the youngest jumper and rider at Glen Grove. I have Joanne who is the best at the stable, and the nicest teacher anyone could ever have. I also have a teacher with the same name as mine! Alex! She is also wonderful, and they have taught me so much, and because of their teachindg I have won several blue ribbons, and a champion at jumping on Tara. I love going to the stable because not only do I ride, but they teach me how important it is to take care of the horses. The instructors, and other older riders have taught me how to tack a horse better. I love Glen Grove!" more

Great place 6/1/2011

the place is great! the teachers are strict but only because the want the best for the student they are teaching. the teacher that that teaches me is the best because she does her best at getting my favorite horse. Glen grove teaches its students how to tack up, and lead the horse. more

Does a great job 4/11/2011

My 8 year-old daughter has taken lessons from Hillary at Glen Grove for a few months, now. Prior to that, she took lessons at Freedom Woods. I think both stables are great, but we continue to prefer Glen Grove for a few reasons. First, her trainer really does a great job of instructing her in a positive way and also just letting her ride. During my daughter's half-hour lesson, she spent the majority of the time actually trotting/cantering/jumping, while at the same time, working on technique. At Freedom Woods, it seems more time is spent honing technique and less time actually riding. Second, the school horses she's ridden (Terra, Simon, Lily, Tweety) are really great. They trot or canter continuously, as opposed to the horses at Freedom Woods (CJ, Princess, Eli) who tend to be more stubborn and rarely make it around the entire ring before stopping. Third, the instructors and front desk folks are really nice. I always feel welcome at Glen Grove. In truth, though, I would say the same about Freedom Woods, too. Last, Glen Grove is a little less expensive (lessons are $40 for private, $35 for a half hour group - compared to $45 for a private at Freedom Woods). I would highly recommend Glen Grove! more

i love it 4/7/2011

I've been riding there since I was in 2nd grade (I am now a Junior in highschool), and i love it! the barn itsself is a little dirty, but the cute ponies/horses, trainers, and other riders there really make up for it. I would reccoment it over Freedom Woods any day. more

I love all of them! 4/4/2011

i love this place! everyones nice! theres good horses, good service and really nice people. i always feel welcome and im always greeted by the desk lady or by the people at the office when i first i walk in. theres even working students to get the horses ready for you if you want so you dont have a hard time tacking up! they give them baths and they clean out the horses waterers and they take good care of them. the trainers are all really really nice, I love all of them! they actually care about you and the way you ride, theyre funny and all amazing riders (unless they physically cant ride anymore) I just love all of the people there. more

They're really great! 4/1/2011

Just came across some of the reviews about Glen Grove Eq center and I felt compelled to speak out. I ride there, I school there and I board there... All the nonsense about people not being nice and so on is not the case. Once you have a connection with them they are all great. Instructors are great...all of them...it just happens to be that riding a 1200 lbs or so animal does require the rider and the instructor on occasion to put their foot down. Younger riders better learn that quick otherwise some unfortunate things will happen...that is why the instructors are tough. They need to get the message across...sometimes sternly. Anybody who has ridden for more than 4 weeks can attest to that. Riding is not a sport for the fain of heart...it is actally a tough thing to do since the animal is always stronger than the rider. Any good rider is aware of it and any young rider is better prepared to learn it... They have great facilities, good school horses and knowledgeable instructors...and this is something which you will not find everywhere. If you (or your child) really want to learn riding you must be prepared to deal with some adversity...the instructors can be tough on occasion because they know it and they are trying to prepare their students for it...that's all there is to it. Don't think there is a better barn within 30 miles from there...and I knowe pretty much all the other ones. more

i LOVE the ponies 4/1/2011

i LOVE the ponies! theyre all soo cute! i read that people thin that they dont take care of them well... first theyre outside all the time so when theyre groomed they get dirty all over again, also they clean out the pen 1nce a week, and they get fed too... all i know is that theyre adorable and all really cute. also i read that people say that the trainers yell all the time, all i can say is that they only yell when the child isnt being safe and when the child doesnt do what theyre telling them to do. i personally dont really know what theyre talking about, ive never heard them yell or have ever been yelled at either. the people are all nice and friendly and i rwally do like the place. more

This place rocks 3/29/2011

great place! i love the people, the boarders and trainers are all nice. the horses are all really nice and all of the show horses are fancy. i read some of the reviews and most of them say that the owner can be mean, they dont treat the ponies that well, and the trainers scream. NO WAY! first of all the ponies are in the pen because theres no where else to put them because theres no stalls... and anyways they let them sleep in the main arena at night. they get fed too. what more could they get?! there sooo cute as well second of all, the owner can get mad soemtimes but only if shes in a bad mood. she isnt nuts or anything like that she just has a hot temper (its better than the one at freedom woods!) third of all, the traners dont scream except for one, and she left about a month ago. I love all of them and there the best that you could ever find. theyre great. this place rocks! more

Glen Grove is a fantastic barn 3/23/2011

Some people need to understand that hundreds of people walk into these doors every week. I have been riding at Glen Grove for 5 years and have experienced the good and bad. The trainers try their best. If and when they are on the phone, I happen to know for a fact it has to deal with their work at the barn. They are not casting aside your child. The trainers are all very kind, and know what they are doing to make your child a safe and educated rider. The grooms are very funny and nice guys, and also love working with the horses. If a child needs help there are plenty of working students there to help, just as one of us! We're always around and glad to help. Glen Grove has very hard working school horses that are great to learn on. Glen Grove is a fantastic barn, it could use a bit of cleaning up, but we do our best. :) Please consider all of these factors when writing a review. more

love it, love it, love it! 3/14/2011

I love glen grove! i own a horse there and i board there. I came from a barn about a half a mile away from it that didn't treat me well AT ALL! (..freedom woods...) so i was nervous that the same thing was going to happen at GG... not at all! the people are nice and they all treat me well. OK, so some people say that some trainers don't pay attention to them, and scream, but they're all gone, they all left! (I know who they're talking about) and most of the time they "scream" for the riders own good. they only get mad if the rider is doing something unsafe, stupid, or really really wrong and wont stop doing it. I love all of the trainers. theyre unique and really nice. they all train well and make you and your horse a gazillion times better. most people would say that the barn isn't nice.. they only say that because its like 60 yrs old! i love it they're and it would've been really really pretty when it was new. also, some people say that the ponies aren't treated well... i think they're treated just fine, they're way to small to go in a stall, so where else are you going to put them! they're not shaved because it pointless, their hair doesn't stop growing...I love them all! they're cute and really sweet (i know from working pony rides myself). Also, some people say that the owner can be mean sometimes too. yeah, sometimes she gets a little mad... BUT WE ALL DO! give her a break!!! I love all the horses there. another thing i like about it is that the grooms are nice and they actually care about the horses, the paddocks aren't fancy, but they have grass around them for the horses to eat and they're big enough for them too play in. all of the trainers are funny and fun to hang around with. everybody's like that there! I LOVE IT! its the place to go! :) more

I really do love this place 3/9/2011

Ive been boarding at glen grove for about 8 or 9 months, and lately i really like it. its not the nicest barn but it probably would been nice at first because its really old. the barn need to be cleaned up, but then it would be a lot nicer. i read some of the reviews and some say that the owner can get a little grumpy sometimes... yeah she can. its sort of true but Ive seen much worse at different barns she only gets mad when shes having a bad day or if she gets annoyed at someone before she talks to you but other than that shes really nice. the grooms are nice, some of them do a really great job of taking care of the horses, but the others do an overall ok job. i LOVE the ponies! theyre all soo cute! i read that people thin that they dont take care of them well... first theyre outside all the time so when theyre groomed they get dirty all over again, also they clean out the pen 1nce a week, and they get fed too... all i know is that they're adorable and all really cute. also i read that people say that the trainers yell all the time, all i can say is that they only yell when the child is not being safe and when the child doesn't do what they're telling them to do. i personally don't really know what they're talking about, Ive never heard them yell or have ever been yelled at either. the people are all nice and friendly and i really do like the place. the only bad part about it is that its an old barn which makes it kind of dirty, but i really do love the place. more
