Horrible Service 3/3/2012

After my hair appointment, I decided to try out Gladys Knight's restaurant across the street. BIG MISTAKE! I went inside the restaurant and it was half full. I stood there for a good 10 minutes and there was no host or hostess to greet me. There were servers walking around the restaurant servng guests however, three servers made eye contact with me and not one of them had the nerve to ask me if I have been helped or to tell me that someone will be right with you. Another 10 minutes goes by and I decided that enough was enough and I walked out the restaurant. That's money that the restaurant missed out on. I will never go back there again! They told us "Your leavin on that just after 9pm train" 8/8/2011

We visited Gladys and Ron's Chicken n Waffles in Lithonia GA. We arrived about 8:45 on 8/7/11 and were promptly seated. Nice huh? I didn't think we'd even be fed see it was close to closing (9pm Sunday nite). That's where the good times ended. Our food arrived and the squash casserole was microwaved. Not cool. We were ok though cuz the music was nice and there was mood lighting. My waffle was under-cooked and the chicken breast was luke warm outside and inside it was cold(blizzard like)... Well to make matters worse they turned off the music and turned up the lights right at 9pm , as if to say "you ain't gotta go home but you gotta get the hell outta here." All requests from us and other patron's to have the music and lighting restored fell on deaf ears. Now there was another family there and they were complaining that we were served before them despite the fact that they were already seated and had ordered when we arrived. They were very disappointed with the food they received also. Again not cool...Then I asked for and received a "to go" box but it was to small to hold all the food I had left over, (I must admit I did eat the wings the next day though). Oh well, "waste not want not." Based on the fact that there were at least 6 -7 people on staff we expected to be treated with the same respect as the first customers of the day and not as people they cared nothing about. To be rushed as though we were keeping them from some prior engagement was a slap in the face to say the least. I guess customer service is not a priority here. We were charged full price for sub par food and the waitress had the audacity to inquire if we wanted any change from the $25 we gave to pay for our $21 meal. Guess we should have seen the "B" rating they received from the food service industry. Could have saved ourselves a lot of aggravation. "I guess neither one of us," will be patronizing this establishment again nor will we suggest it to anyone other than folks we don't like... This was definitely not, "The Best Thing That Ever Happen To Me..." more

Great Food & Atmosphere 2/17/2010

Great food!!! I am rarely eat meat, but I was able to enjoy all the side dishes this restaurant had to offer. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was excellent. The thing that impressed me the most was the Uptown half lemonade half iced tea! I have never seen anything like it. I will surely be making my way back the next time I'm in the area. more

Soul food at it's best 2/4/2010

Highly recommended by guide book and they were right! Great fried chicken and waffles. Best sweet potatoe pie and corn bread too. Very crowded but worth the wait! more

GLADYS & RON - JUST SAY NO!! 2/8/2009

On Saturday 02/07/2009, My 2 daughers, myself and granddaughter (1 year) took a trip to Atlanta for the first time. We ALL had to try Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles. WHAT A MISTAKE. It was by far, the WORST part of the trip. I was so so so disappointed. THIS IS NOT SOUL FOOD. We waited an hour before asking if our name was coming up, to find out we had been CROSSED OFF the wait list. We were then seated. It was a rather SPECIAL experience, i.e., some of the wait staff were very very special (YELLOW BUS SPECIAL). We were excited about the experience, wanted to get a feel for everything on the menu. BIG MISTAKE. The MIDNIGHT TRAIN had missed a couple of stops (and was the only item on the menu that came with a waffle, no seasoning on the chicken, and my son who does not know how to cook could have made a better waffle. The other review was so correct, DRIED OUT AND BURNT MACARONI & CHEESE, The GREENS were not thoroughly cooked, and tasted like leaves (no flavor), the YAMS were also TASTELESS, NOT SWEET, NOT THOROUGHLY COOKED -- Gerber baby food tastes better. I thought I was ordering mashed potatoes and gravy (I know that's what I said), but I got this potatoe casserole that was just NASTY -- and too hot (spicey). I ordered CHILDS CHICKEN BASKET W FRIES for the baby. The fries were so HOT w PEPPER the baby started choking, and so did I. SWEET POTATOE CHEESE CAKE was just NASTY, not sweet, bland -- looked pretty though. BOTTOM LINE: The price was too high, the portions were too small. This is just a gimmick. I can't tell you not to go, because it is a "tourist" attraction, but apparently "Gladys-N-dem don't expect return business." This is a ONE-SHOT-WONDER. I been and I will not be back again...... Pros: JUST SAY NO Cons: PARKING says $3, but charged $10 at night, BAD FOOD, HIGH PRICES more

NOT FOR ME! 8/25/2008

THE ATMOSPHERE WAS NICE AND WE WERE SEATED QUICKLY. I ORDERED THE FRIED CHICKEN, GREENS, AND MAC AND CHEESE. WHEN I GOT MY FOOD I WAS THINKING I AM GOING TO TEAR THIS UP!!! I TRIED THE CHICKEN I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED! I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER THAN THAT! THE CHICKEN NEEDED SOME SEASONING SALT OR SOMETHING ADDED TO IT. THE MAC AND CHEESE WAS NOT GOOD EITHER. THE GREENS WERE FAIR. I AM A PERSON WHO KNOW MY SOUL FOOD BEING A DOWN SOUTH GIRL WHO KNOW HOW TO COOK! THIS DID NOT DO IT FOR ME. MAYBE I NEED TO TRY THE OTHER ONE. Pros: SEATED QUICKLY Cons: FOOD WAS NOT GOOD! more

Wonderful Service & Tasty Food 9/7/2007

My husband and I have gone to the Lithonia, GA and Largo, MD location and thoroughly enjoyed both! We expected a long wait at the Lithonia location and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. The seating is comfortable, with enough elbow room to enjoy your meal. The waitress was pleasant and prompt and able to recommend menu items, her personality was wonderful!!! My parents were with us, visiting from NY and they LOVED the food!!!! None of us had any complaints!!! Clean restrooms, absolutely wonderful proportions of food (you get more than your money's worth), nice atmosphere, great staff....No complaints for the money you pay!!!!! Compared to other reviews of Justin's and Cafe Dupri, go to this restaurant, you definitely won't regret it!!!!!!!! more

Very good food 3/30/2007

We visited the lithonia location and the food was awesome, the southern fried chicken, the smothered chicken, the waffles, the greens, the mac & cheese I could go on and on. The friendly staff and the restaurant was very clean I own a cleaning company and I pay attention to cleanliness. I highly recommend this location. Pros: Professional staff, get food nice and hot Cons: for me none more

Crazy on the Weekends 2/9/2007

Because this spot draws a lot of tourist attention, it's hard to get in there without at least a 15-minute wait. The food, service and ambiance are worth it though. I enjoyed being catered-to by the waitresses and my food came piping hot and flavorful, despite claims of a problem in the kitchen. Overall, this is a good place to dine if you have time to chill, relax and patiently receive the goodness. more

Great Staff Service 7/4/2006

I had the opportunity to visit Gladys Knight/Ron Winans Chicken and Waffles restaurant this past weekend, and it was an experience. We were visiting Atlanta and went to the restaurant on Sunday morning just after morning service and although there was a crowd, the staff was friendly. We were told of an issue with the restaurant which was beyond the control of the staff, but I have to compliment them because they kept their composure and we were seated in 20 minutes. Because we chose to eat on the patio we had the good fortune of having two young ladies as our servers. These young women took very good care of our needs. They ensured we had plenty to drink, and they were constantly checking on our needs as we dined. I would recommend this restaurant to others as I already have. Many times things happen for a reason... beyond our control, during these times we learn to enjoy/appreciate the quiet times and be thankful that we are able to go to a restaurant... many can't. more

The wait 11/27/2005

I as very excited to go eat there. When we arrived at 1:30p, the hostess told us it was 15 min wait. Cool! 35 mins. later, there were 10 empty tables. We asked her what the deal was. She said there was something wrong iin the kitchen. Another guy ran up to her and ran back. Kitchen Fire? Dropped the food? Five other groups walked out after being there as long as we were. I asked the hostess, how long? She said at least another hour plus 15 mins like she told us. We walked out....I was pissed. They could have at least seated the people who have been waiting forever. They had several tables open wide. Give people some drinks while they waited. Pros: parking Cons: seat people more
