Best

We went to the North store and looked around very big selection. Then we looked at the Round Rock store as well great selection but better price for the oven we were looking for....

Worst

I was specifically looking for a replacement fridge and went to the store on Lamar. I did not see any old models and at first glance, all of the fridges looked new (shipping tape...

Beware of reconditioned appliances 5/27/2010

If you purchase a used appliance from this store be sure to purchase their in home warranty. Their free 6 month warranty means that you have to haul the dryer back to the warehouse for them to fix it and then haul it back to your home yourself. Be sure to purchase their in home warranty if you buy used. The warranty negates any savings in buying used. You really dont know what you are getting until it is installed at your home and using it. I bought both a washer and a dryer this week.. Both refurbished. The washing machine works like a dream, but the dryer is another story. They delivered both on Monday. I immediately started a load of clothes. The dryer took 2 hours to dry a small load of clothes. Disappointed, I went back to Giant and told them that I wanted to trade up the dryer that I purchased yesterday. They do not offer refunds, only store credit. The salesman that sold me the washer and dryer the day before "no longer works for the company" so I was working with this female, she never offered her name, nor was it listed on the invoice. She was rude, unprofessional and tried to charge me for items that were free the day before. When I objected to paying for another cord and vent hose she went on to say that it was "company policy" that these things be new. I bought a new dryer (same price as Best Buy and Sears were charging for the dryer) to bypass their in house warranty charge, and being new there have not been any issues with it. The delivery men are wonderful. They were polite, fast and efficient. Just beware when working with them. Pros: Nice delivery people Cons: Do not offer refunds, only store credit more

Wonderful deal on a double oven 1/10/2008

I looked for a double oven for a year and knew I only had around 1500 or 1600 to spend. With that tight of a budget, I could only find a basic model without convection. I saw the Discount Ad on TV and my husband called them the next day. He gave them the model number from the store with the lowest price I could find. They did not have that model number but asked him what we were lookng for. He told them stainless double oven, preferable convection in at least one oven and what our price range was. The salesman told him he had the latest model Kitchenaid with double convection, roll out racks and gorgeous blue interior with large glass doors for 1650. The next day I went to see it and it was what he said. I called the other store back with my first quote and they told me if I could get that model for 1650 I better grab it. It would cost them over 2000 to get it in their store and then it would be marked up. It retailed for over 3500 dollars. There was nothing scratched that showed on the front and I took it home in my truck that afternoon. I absolutely love that oven and it was fabulous for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks Giant. Now my daughter needs a dishwasher and I will come and see you. Sonii N. more

Great prices and service 11/20/2007

I recently purchased a LG stove from the Lamar location. I found the store clean and the employees helpful and knowledgeable. They had lots of options to choose from in, a wide range of prices. Most of the time, I could not find the scratch or the dent. The stove I purchased was listed at another store for $500 more than the price I paid at Giant! They delivered and installed the stove just a couple of days later. The delivery driver was polite and on time. Thanks for a great experience, Giant. Pros: Great value, excellent customer service, wide variety of choices Cons: South location? Could use more parking more

Not necessarily a better deal than the chain stores ... 10/26/2007

I was specifically looking for a replacement fridge and went to the store on Lamar. I did not see any old models and at first glance, all of the fridges looked new (shipping tape on the inside, anti-mar plastic, etc.). However, the prices were higher than what I could get in a chain store! I've been to Fry's, Best Buy, Home Depot today (just before) and the going price for an 18 cu ft fridge without bells and whistles seems to be around $400 and for a 21 cu ft to be around $500. IIRC, I saw several 18 cu ft top-freezer/bottom fridge split units here for $500. Many of the fridges had "Price at Store X" prices that were way marked up to make their prices look better. Maybe this would work for you if you want immediate pickup though. Most stores ship from a warehouse, which takes a few days. I imagine that you can just pickup one here and now and be done with it. more

Scratch and Dent Appliance Store Reviews 5/28/2007

For the past week, I visited 3 scratch & dent appliance stores in my search for a refrigerator, front load washer and dryer for my new home. These were my criteria: Price, Selection, Customer Service. All of which carried an equal amount of importance. ==== Aus-Tex Appliance: Limited selection; They carry LG and GE mostly, and a lot of used stuff, which I was not in the market for. Good Prices, poor atmosphere, not professional, high-pressure. Poor customer service. I didn't go to the North location after my experience at the South Austin store. 5 of 10. ==== Giant Discount Appliances: Large selection and carried all the brands. Average to good prices, very friendly and professional, low-pressure. Great customer service. Also visited Austin warehouse. 9 of 10 ==== Appliance Associates: Nice people, nice prices, very poor selection. They just don't carry much inventory. 7 of 10 ==== I chose to purchase my appliances at Giant Discount Appliances from the Round Rock location. Although I felt Aus-Tex Appliance had slightly better prices on the washer and dryer, but not the refrigerator, Giant worked with me since I purchased a refrigerator, washer and dryer. Their customer service was some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. The lady at the Austin store told me that no one at Giant Appliances works on commission so they have a no-pressure sales approach, which was very reassuring. I thought Giant Appliances was a large franchise, only to learn that they are a family operated business who started here in Austin. They were very, very informative and made me really feel like they were looking out for my interest, not what you expect from sales people. The Round Rock salesman, Miles, was very good to us. He helped us select what we were looking for and didn't try to upsell us on anything. The store was very clean and impressive. They also sell TVs, but their prices were very mediochre. I am going to recommend all my friends and family to Giant. Pros: Huge selection. VERY Good customer service. Good Prices. Cons: The warehouse was not air-conditioned which made the shopping a little miserable. more

Great Prices and Selection 5/2/2007

Great Prices and Selection. Shopped here after looking other places and found Giant to have what I wanted at a very good price with the manufactures warranty. I am glad I stopped here after the bad experiences I have had elsewhere. Thanks GIANT! Pros: Very large variety and knowledgable sales reps Cons: Cant think of any more

poor selection. not much savings 12/16/2006

poor selection of appliances. they just had a bunch of the same appliances. some of the appliances seemed overpriced considering they were old and used. Pros: friendly employees Cons: prices weren't great more

This place is a nightmare to deal with. 12/8/2006

Bad customer service. Late delivery. Problems with appliances. I could go on. But to top it all off, I discovered that I could have bought the same refrigerator at Costco for cheaper!!! Couldn't believe it!!! I thought I would be saving a lot of money by buying a scratch and dent item. But several other stores including Costco had the same BRAND NEW refrigerator for cheaper!! Unbelievable! I price checked some of there other appliances with other retail stores like Fry's and Best Buy, and many other items although it was considered "scratch and dent" were price higher!! I would strongly recommend not shopping here. It's almost like a scam. Pros: can't think of any at this time. Cons: supposed "scratch and dent" appliances are actually price higher!!! more
