This review is not about Dr. Gershenzon, rather his office manager, Peggy. However, it would be entirely foolish to dismiss this review on those grounds, and particularly if you intend to use dental insurance to cover Dr. Gershenzon's services.
Further, since my visit to Dr. Gershenzon's office, I have read at least two other reviews on Citysearch that echo my comments, below, and have received similar feedback from one other patient who recently dealt with Peggy. All reviews are worth reviewing prior to scheduling a visit or even thinking of dealing with Peggy.
That said, based on my experience, it is my opinion that Dr. Gershenzon's office manager, Peggy, is both hideously unprofessional where resolving valid client concerns and, more importantly, substantially misleading where inquiries about insurance coverage matters are concerned.
In response to a clear, unequivocal, and brief written (i.e., e-mail) question about whether or not I would be required to pay out-of-pocket expenses in relation to a visit with Dr. Gershenzon, Peggy's written response was entirely misleading, and involved substantial omissions about my coverage.
In response to a simple and straightforward question, and instead of writing that she was not in a position to determine the full extent of my coverage, or, even better, advising me that I would have to contact my insurance company about out-of-pocket expenses, she simply responded to my question by writing ""I went on to [Insurance Company's] dental site and you and your husband are covered."" I later found out that, Dr. Gershenzon's services were only partially covered by my insurer, and that I would, indeed, have out-of-pocket expenses in relation to a visit.
Upon bringing this to Peggy's attention, she very aggressively (both on the telephone, and in writing) indicated that I was wrong (seriously, Dr. Gershenzon should consider removing the Caps Lock key from her keyboard so that she cannot, so excessively, capitalize the words, ""not,"" ""never,"" and ""no"").
She also was additionally quite ridiculous in suggesting that I should have intuitively known that her prior statements about how Dr. Gershenzon ""accepted"" my insurance but was not a ""member"" of my insurance company meant that his standard services might not be covered. Perhaps that this is intuitive to someone who deals with insurance companies all day long, but it is unlikely intuitive to patients and she reasonably knew or should have known that such would not shed clarity on my inquiry.
Finally, when I requested that her office absorb the entirely manageable balance of Dr. Gershenzon's fees in consideration of the fact that I am a new client, and that I, in good will, referred a patient to his office without any follow-up expectations, Peggy was quick to make it clear that my referral was essentially of little importance to her office since the referred client had only come in for a ""consultation"" and did not technically qualify as a ""new patient,"" since the referral (who had just gone in) had yet to return for a full fee-generating appointment
In any event, if you do decide to visit with Dr. Gershenzon, do yourself a favor and direct any and all insurance-related questions to your provider, despite any information that you may be given by Peggy.
