I just about lost it when my stylists left Gerald's. I would go to Lindsay for a cut and Julie for color. Since Lindsay was often so popular and busy; I also went to Jodi for hair cuts. There were so many awesome girls to choose from. Imagine my surprise when I went there one time and they were all gone...it took some time but I found out where they all went and just had to share with any others looking for them. Julie, Lindsay and Jodi (along with Jessie, Katie and Ellen) are now at Paige Ryan Salon in Plymouth (Ann Arbor Rd) and this Salon is so comfortable and welcoming. Geralds salon is very close to my house and I read some good reviews so I went there for a haircut. The girl I had did a pretty good job on the cut but she had absolutely ZERO personality. I did go back to her a second time and the cut was just ok. I felt very uncomfortable in there as it seemed to be lots of attractive young stylists who stood around staring at themselves in the mirror. I realize that you can't help but look in the mirror at a salon since they are everywhere but this was excessive. Nobody was especially rude to me but they basically all treated me like I wasn't even there. I see it as a bunch of young pretty girls fresh out of beauty school and not yet mature enough to make conversation or make the customers feel comfortable. I also don't like when you have to go to a seperate stylist for color vs. cut. Won't go back. I went to Gerald's Salon about 10 years ago on a consultation with a male hairstylist - older guy, I do not remember his name. He had done my sisters hair just before this and cut her really short up the back - I have very long hair. I did about a 30 minute consulatation in which he told me that he would like to layer and face frame my hair. I returned to the salon about four weeks later to have him cut my hair and decided that for the first couple of time just to have him trim it. He had fit. I sat in his chair and said I would just like you to trim it for now (being very nervous) - he then stood behind me very angry and said ""WHAT DID WE TALK ABOUT""??? I then went to the shampoo bowls with him where he started to wash my hair, as he was just getting it wet - I got a very sick feeling in my stomach and could feel the back on by hair stand up. I excused myself - went to the front desk and told the receptionist that I was choosing not to get my hair done by this person and told her why. She did not charge me anything, and I left the salon shaking with wet ends. This stylist is not happy unless he can cut all of your hair off. I am sorry I do not remember his name, but I will never go back to Gerald's again. Who you hire is who respresents your business. Also I was on their website with the ""this questionable girls actions"" in the video they have of some girl with one of those ""thinned layered"" haircuts that they call a ""french hair cut"" - there is nothing attractive about hair that has thinned to make you look like a cancer patient. Before she puts on mousse and rollers her hair is paper thin. more

When I first started going to Gerald's my hair was in awful condition after a bad hair dresser I had been seeing. I was referred to Gerald's by a friend back in around 2003. I currently see Jamie for color and Jodi for a cut. I have seen others as well. I am so impressed I would suggest this to anyone! They turned my very damaged hair back to it's original condition if not better!! I don't know what I would do without the services of this very upscale salon. I should also mention that the receptionist are the most professional and welcoming I have ever met. I am always remembered by name when I come in.. Thank You Gerald's!! more

I have been going to Gerald's Salons since I was a kid and have always had great experiences, as have the friends I have sent there. I love that I can get all my beauty needs met in one place- hair, nails, facials, etc. without feeling I am not getting the best from each genre. I feel quite confident on every level here and get constant compliments on my hair, whether I am in Michigan or traveling for work in cities across the world. Kudos, Geralds!! more

I think you will find all business owners who have invested their life and resources to perform services or sell products, are extremely interested in feedback. Honest criticism is very valuable and is received well by management. Although we aspire to be perfect...sometimes we are not. Our entire salon team is very anxious to work with any issues or corrections that are brought to our attention. I had been going here for many (7+) years...until my last few experiences. The last time I went I was encouraged to try a new stylist, since the girl that I usually see was booked. I took their advice. It took over 40 min to dry my hair and style with a round brush...and that is because the stylist had 2 assistants take turns ""practicing"" on me. Meanwhile she finished cutting and styling two other clients in a second chair. It would have been polite and practical to ask if I minded, did I have somewhere to be? I finally had to ask if they could my hair could just be dried, as I did have an appointment to get to. When I complained, I basically got a shrug of the shoulder and was told, oh, sorry. I will not be going back again. This episode was following a situation that my girlfriend recently had at Geralds in relation color. When she left the salon and got into the sunlight, her hair was WAY to blonde (white) so she called and they told her to come in the next day. When she left that day and got into the sunlight her hair was pink...and she had a job interview that week. They would not refund her money, they did NOTHING but again say ""oh, sorry"" Do yourself a favor and don't go here. Find somewhere else.
