Best

I discovered Geraldi's in April 2011. The owner, Joanie, is the sweetest hostess. I have eaten their Italian Beef & Meatball sandwiches. Very good. But the most incredible item...

Worst

I see from the other review's I should have ordered a sub. The lasagna is nothing but 5 layers of pasta with a tad of sauce in between and less than a tad of plain ricotta, NO MO...

The Best Lasagna EVER! 9/18/2011

I discovered Geraldi's in April 2011. The owner, Joanie, is the sweetest hostess. I have eaten their Italian Beef & Meatball sandwiches. Very good. But the most incredible item on their menu is the Lasagna. OMG!! I have dined all over the world and this homemade dish is the best lasagna ever. I recommend getting several orders to go and take them home. Freeze for later...if you have the will power to not devour them immediately. Absolutely delicious with Joanie's garlic bread & extra sauce. It all freezes for a fabulous dinner with friends. Yum! I am hungry right now thinking about it. This is not to be missed. more

Conventionally Excellent Lasagna 3/10/2011

I visit Geraldi's on a weekly basis, and I love their lasagna. Amid Portland's constant food grandeur and experimentation, it is exciting to me to know that I have at least ONE place in town where I can go to get a large portion of simple, consistently delicious lasagna. There is plenty of cheese and sauce, and you are served an entire loaf of crispy, baked garlic bread to boot. The staff, including the proprietor, go out of their way to create a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended. more

Great Lasagna! 2/8/2011

Can't agree with the earlier review dissing the lasagna. It's one of my favorite things about Geraldi's. That and the Torpedo. And of course the service. Oh, and the garlic bread! So good! No microwave can toast bread like that! Highly recommended. more

Love the Lasagna!! 1/31/2011

I love their lasagna! I order it every time I eat there. Great flavor, lots of mozzarella! Warm, friendly atmosphere, and quick service. Large servings for a great price. more

Worst lasagna ever! 12/21/2010

I see from the other review's I should have ordered a sub. The lasagna is nothing but 5 layers of pasta with a tad of sauce in between and less than a tad of plain ricotta, NO MOZZARELLA. Sauce tasted a lot like Spaghettio's. Microwaved garlic bread. more

The Best 11/12/2009

Absolutely the best in town. If you're from back east you know it starts with the roll. I highly recommend the Spicy! Pros: the bread Cons: you need napkins more

Damn Good Sandwiches 2/6/2009

Gotta love the Chicken Parm Sub, the Chicago Beef, and the Geraldi Torpedo. This place is for serious east coast style sub lovers, no posers allowed. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Service Cons: A tad Expensive more

Best Italian Sandwich Shop in Portland. 11/2/2008

Thankfully, with the death of the owner his wife is willing to continue with the business. The sandwiches are all great and a large for the money.. Top quality. Pros: Friendliness, down home feeling Cons: a bit more expensive. more

Good Eats 2/29/2008

Tasty grub, but the prices seem to be getting a bit to high for the fare. $7.45 for a half sub (6"") seems a bit steep. I'll still go and visit every so often, just not as much as I used to. Still great eats and service though! Pros: Food, service Cons: Price, limited seating more

THE BEST SUB ANYWHERE 11/22/2006

Well, I just have a few words to describe Geraldi's. The Best Subs Heros around Portland. You can't find the same kind of heros anywhere around Portland, not even at the other Geraldi's (Beaverton or Flanders) I 'm a busy person but i don't mind to deal with the traffic to be able to go to get a hero at Geraldi's on 4th. I work on SE Portland just about 15 miles from downtown, and is just plain simple, there is no other sub shop that makes you wanna come back to get one more during the week, I have taken other friends and co-workers with me to Geraldi's and We all say the same, their subs are AWESOME. to make you want to return many times a week no matter how long it takes to get there and to go back to to the SE side. We enjoy the owners conversation too. Thank you for the great food. Pros: Great Food and Service. And the prices are just for what you get. Cons: None. more

Great subs 8/20/2006

I was checking Citysearch for a good sub shop downtown and this had lots of recommendations. I went there and was not disappointed. The ""Spicy Geraldi"" was a wonderous pile of meats and cheese on a fresh sub roll topped with lettuce, onion, tomato and, of course, italian dressing. That's the sub for me. On other visits I have tried the meatball and sausage subs, and the ravioli and garlic bread. They were good but the spicy sub is still my fave. Good place for quick business lunch. Pros: Great little sub shop. Cons: Limited seating. more

Awesome Subs 11/27/2005

I've been eating at Geraldi's for 10 years now and have NEVER been dissapointed. They even kept me happy through my vegetarian years (the Big Cheese is soooo good). Don't forget to order a side of garlic bread! Pros: bread, service, price Cons: not on the east side more

A little piece of the East Coast 2/2/2005

I have never been one to eat at a restaurant and couldn't wait get back to my computer to write a review, but I have also never ate at a place like Geraldi's...In one word...WOW!!! This has got to be the best italian food I have tasted since my trip to NYC 5 years ago. The meatball sandwich literally melts in your mouth, the spices are just right and the cheese is plentiful...I also recomend the Chicago Beef and their lasagna...in fact, I haven't tried anything yet I wouldn't give my highest rating too. Very affordable, large portions, BIG taste...5 STARS! Pros: Inexpensive, Fast Service, Excellent Quality more

The Best Place In Portland 7/19/2004

Mmmmmm.... 8/11/2003

For a great taste of East Coast deli at a great value, Geraldi's on 4th is a must visit on anyone's lunch list. The selection is fantastic (the Italian Beef is my favorite!), and the service is second to none. The restaurant itself is quaint, has a great atmosphere, and serves up their Italian fare hot and quick. Most days it's even served with an authentic Boston accent! :) Whether you get you food to go, or eat in, either way it's a great meal. You'll be back! Pros: Great value, Great food, Great service more

Best Sub this side of NY!! 8/7/2003

Finally found a New York Sub right here in River City. I like their Italian Sub and their Meatball sub, and the bread is great, this is the real authentic thing!! Pros: Big Sub, Value, Real Italian more

great for lunch 8/4/2003

Nice red table cloth Italian place that's high on value, perfect for lunch. The Geraldi's special chicken sandwich was awesome: chicken, ham, provelone, Italian dressing, etc. The cheese ravioli with meatballs and garlic bread is nothing fancy, just a very rich tomato sauce, sharp parmesan cheese and filling pasta. Pros: lunch, value, portions more
