Plan a trip to the Geroge Washington Masonic Memorial and you'll be planning a trip into the weird. Yet, I love it. Situtateda at the top of the hill at one end of Old Town Alexandria, it's the most visable landmark for miles. The main hall is decorated with beautiful paintings and you won't know anything's amiss quite yet, unless you speak to one of the goofy masonic caretakes. When the tour begins and they take you up in the tower, it starts to get a little kooky. Perpare for a visit to ancient Eqypt (1950s style) where you can catch a glimpse of a replica of the ark of the covenant for only 15 seconds! Then you'll be transported to the dark ages and then to colonial times through the various floors of the tower. Strange as it is, it's still a must-see.
