Terrible Haircut. I went here for the first time the other day and got a haircut. I explained to the ""barber"" what I wanted, and she did nothing close to this. I had to go to another barber and actually got exactly what I wanted for $10. This place is way overpriced, and the lady who cut my hair would not shut up about how she was a master barber and this is why she got paid more than others. If she is a master barber then she needs to go and get her money back for whatever school she went to. more

Room for improvement 10/7/2011

I was visiting Charleston on business and decided to treat myself to a shave on each day of my two-day visit. On my first day, I went to a competing mens salon nearby and to Gents on the second day. This was my first ever visit to Gents and I made the appointment in advance and did not request a specific barber. I was introduced to Cynthia who gave me a good shave but the process felt just a bit too rushed as I was in and out of her chair in less than 30 minutes. For the price of $40 and claims on the website that GBS is ""unique"" and ""like no other"" it would have been reasonable to expect one or two additional applications of hot towels as well as a cool towel at the end. Maybe a chair or scalp massage? Having experienced many shaves at different shops over the years, I have learned how to differentiate a good shave experience from a great one. That said, I can appreciate that as individuals, we have different expectations and it's very hard to please everyone 100% of the time. The shop I went to the previous day for a shave exceeded my expectations so I will be going there in the future. more

AWESOME - Best of the Best Experiences 10/6/2011

My fiancee and I were given a Gift Certificate - one to Ladies and one to Gents. So far, this is the best gift we were given! I can not tell you how much fun and how awesome this experience was. Myhusband had a hair cut by Cynthia. It was BY FAR, the best cut he has ever had. They were careful to not take off to much so he walked out of there looking clean and trim but not butchered:) I was able to soak in some R&R on the Ladies side. My massage with Kathy was so relaxing. I was able to sneak in a lengthy pedicure as well. Uhmmm- longest leg massage in history. Loved it! Meg popped in a few highlites and I was off. A new person! Great customer service and top notch services. No complaints here! Thanks so much. We will be back. more

A great location for suberb business idea. One side for men and another for women- I will be sending my father in law here! I did not get services on the mens side but it was a really cool set up. (I was on the Ladies side) I do know that the staff and manager really cared about my experience and that is reason enough to recommend! more

Awesome Cut 2/14/2011

Someone told my girlfriend Sarah about Gents, so we decided to check it out. When we walked in for my appointment, we were offered drinks, including beer which was pretty cool. They had ESPN on all of the televisions and some mens magazines, including playboy. Sarah didn't mind the playboys though, she has a pretty good since of humor. The atmosphere was nice and the location is great. I felt like my hairstylist was really serious about giving me a good haircut. She listened to everything I said and seemed to know exactly what I wanted even though I didn't do such a good job at describing it. I think her name is Kelly, she has really short hair and sits in the back corner by the windows. I would definitely suggest her. The most important thing is that Sarah was happy. I will definitely be back and I will be telling my friends about this place. more

Wife Loves the cut! 1/24/2011

My wife and I traveled to South Carolina for an off season vacation. My wife came up with the idea about us going and getting ""Pamperd"" on our vacation. I will admit that I didnt want to because I didnt want to be uncomertable getting a service around nothing but women. We looked up Ladies and gets and LOVED the idea of there being two sides! My wife got an manicure and pedicure with Michelle and I got a hair cut with Whitney. Everyne there was up beat and always had a smile on there face and made sure that we had a smile on ours. My wife and i will be back for sure! Good job Ladies and Gents! more

So glad my brother told me to check this place out. I do not think anything else in town compares to it. It was not ""just a haircut"" It was a great experience- a chance for me to catch a break and relax (and they had my favorite game on with a cold drink in hand). Professional, upscale- but not upscale pricing... and the location was really incredible. In the center of everything downtown. more

Great place for a great hair cut and shave 3/22/2010

I travel to Charleston every month on business. I?m constantly looking for an experience that makes me feel special. Gents Barber Spa provides one of those experiences. The stylists are friendly, knowledgeable and very professional, and yes, sexy. There is nothing sleazy about Gents Barber Spa. I would travel across the country to have Karen cut my hair and give me the closest shave of my life. She makes me look good for my job and my nights out on the town. I?ve seen the reviews that criticize the Barber Spa, (haters) they are simply not true. Pros: Best shave in America more

Best Haircut in Town 12/29/2009

Just went online to see the update to the website to see if they posted any of the pics from my friend's wedding, and saw a couple different reviews. I just want to say that Gents is great. I've been going there for years, and have always had a great haircut. I drive from Mount Pleasant just to go to Gents. The place is more than just a barbershop. The services are great, but the atmosphere is great too. I don't know what some of these other reviews are bitching about. The place rocks. The girls have cleavage. Oh God. Blame them for that? I am going there for a haircut and a shave - not to find a date. The girls have always been appropriate. Never been an issue once. They give great shaves and haircuts and that is what I go there for. Gents is no hooters, and it is far from sleazy. Try again. It is the best place for a guy to go in Charleston. The best of a barbershop and a salon mixed into one. Five stars for Gents. Period. Sleezy 12/11/2009

My husband and I live in the suburbs of Charleston and decided to take a casual trip to Downtown! While there we decided to go out to dinner Oak Steakhouse (Amazing food by the way) but before hand i wanted to spiffy him up a bit! So we went to Gents (only barber close by)! The building itself was nice, the women were not! They completely ignored me, guess they didnt know who was paying and who would be tipping!! The ""hairstylists"" was flirting with my husband the whole time and pushing her saggy boobs in his face!! Im not a jealous person i have taken him to strip clubs, however when we go to get a haircut we want a haircut not a peep show!! If we had wanted a peep show we coulda looked at the Playboys they had lying around!! Not even my husband was impressed with the ""service"" given!! HORRIBLE in all aspects!! Pros: Only non-ghetto D.T. location Cons: Everything!! more

The Place for Men- Great Experience 5/8/2009

I can't believe this is the first time I have been here! I am a lawyer downtown and needed a last minute haircut. I was greeted right away and offered a cold drink. As I made myself comfortable, I was surprised to find my favorite team playing on the flatscreen tv. In glancing around, the place was very classy and professional. They took extra effort to personally introduce me to my stylist. Great haircut (very thorough)and I even added on a hot shave. I must say, a great way to decompress during my hectic day. The owner was even there and he personally took me on a tour of there newly expanded spa area. They call it ""The Quiet Side"" - new massage rooms with showers provided so you head back into work! Brilliant! I will definitly be back. Pros: Excellent Location-, Wanted to stay all day! Cons: None- more
