Gentle Family Dentistry

Six years ago I returned back to the area. Upon my return and relocation I was in need of not only a dentist, but one that I could trust with the complexity of dental issues that my mouth exhibits. When a colleague recommended Dr. Locker I took advantage of all the positive remarks she had to say based on her experience with him. That first visit was six years ago and I am one to say that it takes time to “truly” trust a doctors work. Dr. Locker has earned that trust with me as his patient. His experience, expertise, and work continue to speak for themselves each and every time that I visit the office. Even though my dental issues may be complex, I know that I am in good hands with Dr. Locker. He continues to thoroughly assess every situation and explain what every option that I have. Not only is Dr. Locker a fantastic dental provider, but his staff has gone beyond the call of duty to meet all my needs. I truly feel a part of a family when I visit the office. I should have gotten a second option before allowing Locker to do any work inside of my mouth! I was told I had 5 cavities on the right side of my mouth and 6 on the left side, I allowed him to fill the 5 on the right side, even though there was no evidence of them on the xray. He assured me that the special enamel tool they had told him that the cavities were indeed there, we just couldnt see them on the xrays... Everything seemed normal after the procedure was done, I scheduled my next appointment to have the other side of my mouth done. It took almost 12 hours for the Novocain to wear off and after it did, to my shock, I could not open my jaw more than an inch or two without intense pain. I also found that chewing on the right side was extremely painful. I went back after a couple of days and Locker assured me (after looking at my teeth for about 30 seconds) that it would go away and that there was no need to take a jaw xray. I went to Gentle Family Dentistry because my wife told me that we were switching dentists. Dr Locker takes Delta Insurance, and because of something called "write offs" I got a lot more work done at no cost to me. I had a root canal, a crown and a lot of fillings. It really was painless. My new fillings are white and they look so much better than the old silver/black fillings. I can't believe that Dr E. from Altoona is still using the silver fillings when the white option is available. I feel like we are getting work done at a more "up to date place" now. I have been looking for a dental office like Gentle Family Dentistry for a long time. After "dentist hopping", I have finally found my home. Dr. Locker has offered me services that other dentists told me couldn't be done for me. He and his very professional staff have helped to transform my life! I now have a beautiful smile and I tell everyone I know to give them a call! His staff made me feel like a "friend" everytime I came in asking me how I was and even remembering to ask about my grandchildren! It has been a wonderful experience and I will continue to refer everyone I can to this dental office! more

Despite the other reviews, I can offer an extremely positive experience. Over the past forty years, I have had numerous dentists and I can assure any reviewers of this post that Dr. Locker and staff are superb and very much in tune with modern dentistry techniques. Expensive, yes, but also committed to the comfort of his patient and to his overall dental health. The overall results, in terms of finished product and patient satisfaction are beyond compare. And, from my perspective, the level of pain and discomfort was almost non extistent. I come from a generation in which dentistry viewed novacaine as a cop out and Dr. Locker made certain to me that those old wives tales were dispelled and my individual comfort was of paramount importance. I am extremely satisfied with my experience and would encourage others to engage his services. more

We have been to numerous dentists and this, by far, is the\r best and most professional. The staff is very kind, professionsal and efficient, they are always willing to go the\r extra mile to help you. Dr. Locker is also very kind and an\r excellent dentist. He gives you all of the information as to \r charges and work that needs done upfront and ways to pay\r for it. Then, if agreed, he proceeds with the work and it is \r completed in a very professional, excellent manner. One thing that is very important to both of us is the hygiene and they are top-notch in this category. The office is always neat,\r clean and sanitary. He is good and can be trusted. I went to Gentle Family Dentistry a couple of times and though I found the staff to be friendly and warm, I didn't get quite the same feeling from the dentist. In fact, the one time I had to take my young children with me and they sat quietly in the room while I was having my work done. Once they both stood up from their little chairs though they did not move from that spot right in front of their seats and he told them, very sternly in a tone that I didn't appreciate, to sit back down. I was not at all pleased with that and decided right then that I definitely would not be taking my children to him. To me, he was ok but not overly personable, which is important to me since I absolutely detest having dental work done to begin with. Another drawback is that he did not offer any discount for customers who are not insured which I've heard that some other local dentists do and then once I did have coverage, he did not accept my insurance. more
