automatic oil delivery is fantastic 1/27/2010

I was previously with rossoe, but switched to genesee to get better service. They always have a real person answer the phone who answers my questions politely and on the first call. I've been with the for years and have setup their automatic delivery. They come out before my tank is empty and fill it up (generally twice a year). I don't have to think about it and when i signed up they gave me the choice of a free gift. I chose the digital thermostat and air filter reminder. Now i can program my thermostat which i didn't have before. more

Call someone else for Gas furnace repair 2/2/2009

Genesee sent out a technician to work on our gas furnace. He poked around it a bit and said he didn't kow what was wrong with it. Cha-ching$$ The furnace flashes trouble shooting codes but he didn't address the problem they indicated. Just wrote out a bill for over $100 and left. I don't recommend calling Genesee for repairs. more

Great Service that is hard to find anymore 9/4/2007

I have getting heating oil from Genesee for several years now and the service has been great from day one. When I bought my house I had no clue about oil. My house had been previously serviced by Rossoe, but when I called them I was treated as if I was an interruption in their day, then I was shuffled off to sales person who seemed to put the hard sell on me without listening to what I needed..which was simply an explanation of how heating oil works. My next call was to Seelig but they seemed like a fly-by-night operation...answering machine on the first call, when they called back all they could do is constantly slam other companies (always a red flag in my book). So I finally called Genesee on a referral from my neighbor who had been with them for 30 some years. They were great. A very nice person in the office explained how oil works, got my account set up, and gave me a free tune up. All I can say is that every interaction with them is a great experience...rare to find these days. When I call them they are friendly and not pushy. The service technicians have been knowledgeable and clean. I now get biodiesel from Genesee which they are a leader in. I really like the fact that they care enough about the environment to offer biodiesel. I know that most companies can get things right sometimes, but Genesee seems to get it right all the time. more

Terrible Service 11/28/2006

I just had a very poor experience with Genesee Fuel, and I strongly recommend that you stay away from these folks and move to a more professionally operated company. I suggest Rossoe (206) 725-7555, which is who I am using now. I recently bought a very old home with an oil-based boiler. Yesterday, the heat went off, and I couldn't be sure if there was a boiler malfunction or we were out of oil. (Sadly, I did not know how to measure the oil level.) I was surprised to learn ultimately that we were out of oil, because we had just filled it less than two months ago. In any case, I called Genesee (who has filled our oil tank in the past) to ask for help with diagnosing the problem and correcting the situation. It was after hours, but given the sub-freezing weather, this constituted an emergency from my point of view. I called Genesee's night emergency line and spoke with someone who told me I would get a call back that night. I never received the call. In the early morning, I called again and was told that they could send out a repair truck, but that it would be $74 and if the problem turned out to be the oil level, this person would not be able to help. I asked them to send the repair person. He showed up this morning and said "yup, you're out of oil." He said he carried a small amount of oil with him, but that for our boiler, it wouldn't last more than an hour or so, so we shouldn't bother. He also couldn't tell me when an oil truck would be able to come out. So after he left, I called Genesee again and asked for an oil delivery today. They said that all their trucks were out serving other customers and they couldn't deliver it until tomorrow, but if I had called last night, they would have been able to schedule me in for today. That was just a *bit* maddening. The customer service rep that told me the above then said that maybe I could convince dispatch to come out today, so she transferred me to dispatch. This was the point in the experience where I completely flipped the bit on Genesee. The dispatcher said "so which of my other customers without any heating oil should I push off the list to come out and fill your tank?" Very unimpressive. I then asked if he could recommend another company in town who might be able to service us today. Instead of doing the right thing and trying to find a solution for his customer, he said "I'm not going to tell you who my competitors are - you can look at the yellow pages yourself!" So I did go to the Yellow Pages and quickly found Rossoe. Within an hour, they were at my house filling the tank and the driver even verified that the boiler came on and stayed on. Their service was excellent, and I intend to enter into a maintenance agreement with them. So at the end of the day, Genesee lost all my future business instead of just losing my business for this one tank refill. more

Not Very Knowledgeable 10/19/2006

A little over a year ago I bought a 1920's house with the original oil boiler system. Having never owned a house and never seen this system before I had Genesee out to service it because some of tthe radiators were not getting warm. The service technician seemed unsure about how the system worked and bled the air off of the radiators which cost me over $100 and only fixed the system for about a week. This year when I switched to Rossoe and the technician came out for a new customer FREE tune-up, he completely explained how the oil burner system works and that parts of it no longer function properly. He also explained how to keep it working, add water etc.. SO glad I switched companies. Wish I'd done that sooner! more
