Gene was a friend of a friend whom I respect because of his professional experience with auto paint and detailing. I spent extra time with my insurance company in order to get my body work done at Gene's.
The service and estimate writer were pleasant and I was able to set a date to bring the car in almost immediately. I was told the job would take about 7-8 business days.
Fortunately I had a rental paid for by my insurance company because this job took almost a month.
When I got the car, it looked all buffed and shiny with no dents...it all looked good and I was happy...but I did notice it wasn't ""matching the rest of the car"". but I figured I just wasn't going to be able to get it perfect like the rest of the car. It didn't take long here on the Peninsula for our weather to erode at what I came to find was just a ""wax job"" and then it really started to look bad.
My car now has VERY visible differences in the paint that I just cringe over. Every time I get in my car i feel like I'm just shaking my head in disappoint. But again, thinking ""I'm not going to be able to get bodywork look like new,"" i just sort of ""lived with"" the car. It wasn't until I got rear-ended, and had to get a new bumper that I realized you can get a ""new"" look a car. Not wanting to deal with Gene's again, I took the recommendation from my insurance company and went to Roberts Auto Body.
Excellent job...and it took only 2 more days than I was quoted (my car company apparently sent the wrong bumper)
So finally I got fed up enough and said this needs to be amended. I went back to Gene's and I have never be so RUDELY treated by a place of business. When i said that I was unhappy with the work, Gene quickly pointed out to me recent door dings, saying to me ""You don't take care of my car"" ..as if to say that exempts their work. He kept pointing out the dings saying ""So what am I supposed to do with those?! Clearly you don't take care of your car.""
I told him I didn't need the dings taken out, I just want the paint to match the rest of the vehicle. I had to repeat myself again after he brought up the dings again! (I swear it almost seemed comical when he kept bringing this up...but it also a little scary.. as he was running on cylinders or something. ..maybe too much exposure to the paint)
When I said ""Gene, for the third time, we do not need to do anything with the dings,"" he told me to ""Get out of here...and don't come back""
HOLY CR@P! ARE YOU SERIOUS??!! Needless to say I was pi$$ed but at this point, I'm just letting my insurance company handle this.
I'm sure Gene's can occasionally do a good job, but seriously consider the time it's going to cost you renting a car and the customer service afterward if you're not satisfied with the job.
I understand that people make mistakes or maybe have a bad day...but as a business owner, I feel one must be committed to making things right...and that does NOT seem to be a philosophy at Gene's Auto Body
