Editorial review from Citysearch 7/9/2012

The OLD CHELSEA POST OFFICE NYC SERVICE IS VERY POOR. MY PRIORITY MAIL PACKAGE FROM NJ WAS PUT IN PARCEL POST. THE USPS SITE SHOWED 'OUT FOR DELIVERY 'ON SATURDAY JULY 7 2012. IT WAS NOT DELIVERED \r I CALLED MONDAY MORNING STARTING 6.30 AM AND SPOKE WITH A MR COY I WAS ASKED TO CALL BACK AT 8.30 NOBODY COULD FIND MY PACKAGE OR EXPLAIN WHY IT WAS NOT DELIVERED I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE SUPERVISOR. I HUNG UP AFTER 15 MINUTES OF WAITING I TRIED AGAIN(5 MINUTES NO LUCK) \r I THEN CALLED AGAIN AND WAS LUCKY TO GET A MS HARRIS WHO MADE THE ATTEMPT TO LOCATE MY PACKAGE(TOOK 30 MINUTES OF WAITING TIME ON THE PHONE). SHE TOLD ME THE CARRIER WAS ROUTE 64 IN PARCEL POST THE SUPERVISOR OF THAT SECTION A MS DOUGLAS DID NOT CARE TO COME TO THE PHONE. MS HARRIS WAS THE ONLY PERSON WHO HELPED ME AND HAD MY PACKAGE SENT IMMEDIATELY. \r THE USPS CLAIMS ON PRIORITY MAIL ARE MISLEADING. \r IF IT WAS NOT FOR MS HARRIS I WOULD STILL BE WITHOUT DELIVERY. MAY BE THEY SHOULD PROMOTE HER TO POSTMASTER-GENERAL SO WE CAN HAVE SOME COMPETENT PERSONS IN DC.\r I NEED TO KNOW WHAT USPS IS GOING TO DO ABOUT MS DOUGLAS AND THE ROUTE 64 CARRIER VINAYA SAIJWANI more

No wonder the postal system goes bankrupt 2/11/2012

I can only confirm what the previous posters have lamented - this is New York, where we do business around the clock!! We all have packages, letters, documents to mail (still) and yet the Post office closes their accessibility and hours down in the MOST strategic (business) places. \r For years I am paying for a p.o.box at Gr.Central Post office - why - because I it was perfect, I could retrieve packages or bulkier mail afte work until 9PM. \r From one day to the next, without warning, without a sound, a letter in the mail, they closed the mail retrieval service to 6PM. Everyone who was lining up afterward (ignoring the fact and not reading the handwritten unprofessional little sign) was litteraly barked at by the oh so full of themselves postal clerks! Anger and frustration was and still is rampant!\r Why this change ?? the emplyoees in that post office are payed and stay until 9PM anyhow - after 7PM they do mostly chatting and kidding around - so is it too much to ask, that one of the ""chatters"" serves the P.O.Box clients??? \r And to top it all off - did we get a lower rate for a more miserable P.o.Box service - of course not !!!!!!. \r What do I need that P.O.Box for anylonger?? I work until 7pm - I have no way to retrieve stuff that does not fit my box before 6pm ! It took me 10 days before I was able to get a package last week, because of these lametably stupid and unrealistic hours in an area that is surrounded by only offices and businesses!!!\r Result: I am (reluctantly) using UPS and FEDEX now instead - but at least I get the stuff delivered in a timely fashion and actually safe time, since they deliver to my doorstep! Consequently I will cancel my P.O.Box! \r Need anyone wonder WHY the USpostal service is laying off 100.000 people this year and UPS and FEDEX get richer by the day???\r My suggestion: Move into the 21st century - clean out the dust, throw out the Mgmt, privatize the postal service and provide a service and area-adequate opening hours !! Be what our grandfathers bulit you to be - an efficient country-wide SERVICE to the postal clients! Amen\r more

New Hours 8/5/2010

The previous poster was right about the new window hours ending at 10pm on weekdays, but Saturdays it's 9pm (NOT 8). This is quite important, because I would suggest getting there as close to closing as you can (8:50) unless you want to be spending hours of your Saturday waiting 'on' line. This is for a few reasons, people don't know it's open until 9 and not 8, and the workers are eager to leave, so the line is usually cleared by 9:30. But the postal police won't let new people get in the line after 8:58-ish, and they'll threaten to arrest you if you even try; they get in arguments with people every night. (the lobby is open 24/7, including the APC kiosks, but the last collection is right before the windows close) Sundays they are open until 7. more

Oh How Things Have Changed. 8/1/2009

I almost always enjoy going to this particular post office, but when I heard the hours were changing after all these years, it made me realize just how 'dire' things are in our world today.\r So, say ""good-bye"" to the '24 Hour' clock, and make way for the new (perhaps more 'normal') hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Saturdays 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., and Sundays 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. I think I got the majority of the hours right, if not you can check the website for yourself.), just pray you don't need to mail something in an emergency for 'over night' service. Pros: Still Good Hours. Cons: Your 24 Hours Are Now Up. more

phone service 5/20/2009

They never answer the phone. You can let it ring for 1/2 an hour, and they do not answer. I had a serious issue to discuss and was unable to get it resolved. more
