Great Thai food, fast service 6/26/2007

I'm a bit shocked by the negative review posted in 2006, because my family and I have been going to Gemini since the times immemorial (when it was still Sawaddee's) and we have never waited more than ten minutes for the food (in fact, we prefer to eat there when we are particularly hungry because of their fast service). The decor is simple and tasteful, the seating in booths very comfy and they never blast Muzak or have uncomfortable levels of noise. The place is very popular for both lunch and dinner. The service is graceful and unobtrusive and they have a great vegetarian selection (no fish sauce or other animal ingredients). The portions are definitely big enough for me -- I usually split their lunch into two meals and their dinner into three. My favorites are Panang Curry with tofu and the Tom Ka soup with tofu. Somehow the restaurant didn't make it into the ""romantic"" category, but I suspect it is because it's not a cheesy Italian place with candles. I find it to be very private and cozy without being cloying. I like it a lot more than The Siamese Plate. It's my favorite Asian restaurant in town. Pros: flavorful food, fast service, attractive decor, quiet ambience for talking, great veg choices Cons: located in an ugly shopping center next to King Soopers (not their fault ;-)) more

If you enjoy satisfaction, avoid this restaurant 11/8/2006

I've eaten at many Thai restaurants. My favorite hobby is eating, especially foods I can't cook myself. I'll get straight to the point, never in my life have I ever been as disappointed after a meal as I have after eating at Gemini Thai Kitchen. I would like to point out that the place was fairly empty the entire time we were there. Only after were close to leaving, did business start to pick up.\r \r Let me start with some of the positives of the place. First, the booth we sat at was very unique, it was privately tucked away in the corner. Second, the presentation of the food was well done. Third, the waiteress serving us was nice, when she was around. Fourth, the food had some interesting flavors, but nothing too worthwhile. Everyone at my table agreed on all four counts. \r \r Now, on to the negatives of the place. The food took an abnormally long time to come out. I waited for about 35-40 minutes for my dish, some simple curry. On top of that, the food came out in rounds, in that each person's main dish was served in 5 minute intervals after the 35-40 minute wait. I got my dish, 5 minutes later, my buddy got his, then another 5 minutes, another got theirs, and so on. My food was lukewarm by the time everyone got their food, 30 minutes later. The dishes were around $8-10, which I was ok with, until I saw the size of the portions. Most Thai places I go to, I have a bit of a hard time finishing my serving, but that's also because I use extra rice. I could not believe how small they were, and neither could anyone else. The servings of rice they gave were tiny as well. It was a little bit more than half of a typicaly serving of rice. Atleast they follow suit, right? But here's the kicker, they charged for extra rice! This is the only Thai place I've ever heard of doing that. Like I said earlier, the flavors were nice and the presentation as well, but it definitely was not worth the money I spent on it. Pros: Interesting seating Cons: Virtually everything else more

The Best Thai food in Boulder...by FAR 10/12/2006

Gemini is my favorite restaurant; my husband and I go at least once a week. I feel I really need to write a review b/c there are a couple of bad ones that I just cannot understand. One thing is for sure, I go to Gemini for the food (not the decor), why else would you go to a restaurant? The curries are simple, traditional, and fabulous. Too many restaurants serve thai curry filled with vegetables that just don't belong. And the noodle dishes are wonderful. They have the best Pad Thai I have ever had, but the Pad Kea Mao is my favorite - fresh basil, sweet and savory and if you like it hot, they can take care of that. One thing I really like about the food is how flavorful it is - sometimes you order a dish hot from a restaurant and all you taste is hot, but not at Gemini, the flavor of the dish always comes through no matter how hot you like it. I highly recommend Gemini if you have never given it a try - if like thai, real thai, Gemini is guaranteed to be a new favorite place to eat in boulder. more

Very Dissatisfied 10/3/2006

Some fellow students and I recently tried the Thai Kitchen and had the most dissapointing dining experience in years. The service was friendly, but the food took over 40 minutes for the FIRST round of dishes to come out, and the restaurant was nearly empty. By first round I mean some people recieved their dinner entrees, then over the next 10 or 15 minutes the other people recievevd their entrees. The food was more expensive than other Thai restaurants in Boulder, and the portions were very meager. The presentation was nice, but nearly all of us left still hungry. The flavors were decent, but not as good as most Thai dinners. Moreover, we were charged extra for rice. I've eaten my fair share of curries at many different locations, and never have I been charged extra for additional rice with a curry. Overall, I felt sick to pay so much for a poor dining experience. I highly recommend one of the other Thai establishments in Boulder. Pros: Presentation, Ambiance Cons: Portions, Prices, Slow more

Very Delicious!!! 6/30/2006

First of all, I would like to say thank you for coming to do business in Boulder. I have tried all Thai Restaurants in Boulder. This place is the best Thai food in town. They serve the best Pad Thai. (Pad Thai is better than PT in Thailand.) Great Service!!! The prices are reasonable. Highly recommended to find a new experience the best dinning in Boulder. more

YUM! 6/21/2005

The atmosphere's nice, but nothing special. I've never seen many people in there, but they seem to do pretty well. They serve a yummy jasmine hot tea, and the chicken pad thai is wonderful - my personal favorite. If you ask for it spicy, it will be quite spicy, but not unplesantly so. Chicken satay appetizer is only so-so, but they do serve a sweet rice w/mango for dessert that's great - could do with a little more coconut milk, but still good, and they don't skimp on the mango - they give you almost a whole mango! more

Nothing to Rave About 9/4/2002

The food was not bad--but it certainly was nothing to rave about. The Mussman Curry was average, the Tod Mun Pla (Fried fish cakes) were small but OK and the Yum Nua (Spicy Beef Salad) was lacking in almost every respect (there was not much beef, it was not spicy, it had no 'zip or zing' to it and it lacked the somewhat ""gritty"" feel that a real Thai beef salad should have.) The service was slow, we were the only people there and they seemed to forget they had customers. All in all it was not an impressive dining experience. Pros: Nicely decorated Cons: Mediocre food more
