Great Pizza, Quaint Parlor 3/17/2006

If you're looking for a shot of atmosphere with your pizza, visit the Gay 90s Pizza Company on Main Street. The restaurant's interior is comprised of a few small rooms featuring low, beamed ceilings. The lighting is dim and the walls are lined with interesting pictures. The interior is definitely cozy and not excessively loud, so you could easily chat while you wait for your food. If you'd rather sit outside, the patio out back is a great option. They do tend to be busy, but we've never had to wait longer than a few minutes, even on a weekend. Servers are generally brusque and could be friendlier, but they are efficient and usually responsive to requests. The menu offers a large selection of combination pizzas, as well as a create-it-yourself option. I'm partial to the Wayne's World combo: A variety of vegetables including onions, artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes and more on a hand-tossed crust. If your taste tends toward other cuisine, try a salad, hot sandwich or pasta dish. Prices are reasonable; not terribly expensive, but not the cheapest in town. All in all, good pizza and a nice change of pace from the typical pizza place. more

  • History: Now occupied by the Gay 90's Pizza Company, this 1864 building was one of the first commercial buildings in town. It originally housed a general store, bar and Wells Fargo stagecoach stop. The upper floor housed a brothel for many years, and some Pleasanton residents have reported seeing a full-figured ghost lady in the front second story window. Chinese laborers constructed a connection to the town's underground tunnels. Welcome: We hope you enjoy your visit here at the Gay Nineties web site. Feel free to roam around and learn more about what we have to offer. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. At Gay Nineties, we make great tasting pizzas from scratch and are famous for our sour dough specialty pizzas. We have won Best Pizza from the Tri-Valley Herald since 1997!
