Good Bar BQ 6/3/2007

What I found a bit challenging as a first time visitor was what to order. You are expected to know what you want and tell them. The food was delicious and it was easy to get there on the hop on hop off trolley but I would have liked it better to have a menu and a moment to think about what I wanted to order. Very good sauces too. more

I long for Gates... 4/17/2006

I'm a college student who just moved to Ohio from Kansas City and I long for the taste of my hometown Gates Bar B Q. The food and experience are to die for. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff are nice and friendly. The first thing I will do upon returning home is hit up Gates. If your visiting KC I would strongly recommend you try Gates before any other Bar-BQ establishments. Long live the sauce! more

The Best Bar B Que In KC 3/28/2006

Gates Bar B Que is definintely the best Bar B Que that Kansas City has to offer. Everytime I go there, I come out stuffed to the gills. The sauce is the best. It definitely ranks number one in my book. The food is always good regardless what you order and the staff is always willing to accomodate your requests. Want your meat lean as possible, just ask and they'll be more than happy to honor your request. The dining room is always clean and there is always staff waiting to clean up as patrons are leaving. If you can get past initally being hollered at "Hi May I Help You" when you first walk in, you'll definitely enjoy the food. more

Great BBQ 3/12/2006

Gates is a great, no-frills BBQ joint in KC. If you're looking for ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and all the standard sides, you've found it. If you're looking for the best that KC has to offer, I'd suggest Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ, but it's definitely more upscale. For quality, reasonably-priced BBQ, give Gates a try. more

Gates Bar-B-Q 12/29/2005

I'm not much of a barbeque fan, but I definitely enjoy eating at Gates Bar-B-Q. It is homestyle barbeque and it sure is delicious. They have fries, potato salad, chicken, ribs, pickles, and different flavor of barbeque. Parking is plenty and easy. Anytime I have guest from out of town coming in, I either order a platter to go or eat inside. The food is definitely one of the best barbeques around. Note though, I wouldn't recommend eating here alone at night. =) more
