Best

A must do at some point being in the Twin Cities. Fun atmosphere, great food, friendly staff. Mario even came out to visit! The only negative would be that it is so expensive...

Worst

It was our first time there - it was a great atmosphere. The musicians were wonderful! Pros: Great party atmosphere Cons: Waiter, recommendations

A Huge Disappointment 5/1/2010

We visited there with our family on a Saturday night. We didn't have reservations (there were gobs of tables open) and the hostess gave me the most sour, stone-cold look and silence. Pros: atmosphere Cons: food and cost more

Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit 2/14/2010

Good food every time I was there. There are not a lot of German Resturants in the Twin Cities area so since this one is in the heart of the Twin cities anyone has an easy drive to it. Ample off street parking. more

Disappointed in the service we received! 10/27/2009

It was our first time there - it was a great atmosphere. The musicians were wonderful! Pros: Great party atmosphere Cons: Waiter, recommendations more

What an atmosphere! 5/26/2008

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Gasthof's. The service was excellent and there was fun for young and old alike. I had the Veal Parmesean with Hot Potato Salad and asperagus. All was well cooked. The entertainment was priceless and was enjoyed by our entire party. The pricing of the food was very reasonable as well. I would highly recommend Gasthof's to anyone. Pros: Something for everyone Cons: Can't think of any more

restaurant 4/3/2008

The food here is very good and the menu is authentic german cuisine. Very nice decor and a boisterous lively atmosphere. A little loud for young children but I recommend it. more

german restaurant 4/3/2008

We visited this restaurant with our son and his family and had a great time. You really feel like you are at Oktober Fest in Germany. Great party atmosphere with old world decor. i would highly recommend. more

This is fun 1/21/2008

If you can get by with the live accordian music, Gasthof is a fun place to visit. They are kid friendly and moderately priced (get the platters for two). Featuring authentic German food set in rich wood decor, it a little bit of Germany in the Twin Cities. more

Authentic German 1/3/2008

You get what you pay for. They play live accordion music. I felt like i was sitting in Germany. great for small banquets or parties. i recommend for a night out with friends. more

One Hell of a Good Time!!! 9/2/2007

Oh, for fun! I can't tell you what a great time this was. It is for young and old. I seen both ages there and all were having a great time. We went on a Friday night and enjoyed the live music...who would have thought an accordian player could be so fun? The wonderful trumpet player standing on my table...what a view! Ooolala! Oh, forgot, hubby was with...........mmmmm. They got the crowd fired up with HOI HOI HOI yelling, I have no idea what that even means but we had a great time yelling it and then toasting with everyone. Be prepared to meet new people. It seems this place has a tendency to make you part of any crowd that is there. The dancing was so much fun...and I can't dance! Was it the beer, food or atmosphere? I don't know but do not pass up this place. Yah, Yah, Oompah all day! Pros: Everything was super Cons: It is not closer to North Dakota for the rest of my German friends to enjoy! more

Never had the food, but boy is the bar fun! 5/30/2007

This review is just for the downstairs bar: Pros: Service, huge drinks, beer selection (beer boots) Cons: heavy drinks made my arm sore! :) more

Best German food this side of Bayerisch! 5/17/2007

We describe Gasthof as "The German Restaurant owned by a Polish guy named Mario." Pros: Food Music Beer Cons: Noise Crowded dance floor more

Get your polka on! 11/12/2006

Gasthof's rocks! Have the bartenders make your crew some of the firey cinammon shots--delicious! This place brings out really good looking guys who like to have fun! There is an amazing selection of German beers and the bartenders and bouncers are all really friendly. I've also eaten here and the food is delicious! Ein prosit! Pros: great food, great music, great servers, snuff Cons: crowded more

German at its best 7/20/2005

The food here is great! I had the Wienerschnitzel, the best Ive ever had. My guest had the the Rouladen, which was wondeful. Stay away from the potatoe salad. Pros: Food , Beer more

Fantastic 2/8/2005

One of the better German places I have been too. I would definatley come here again. Pretty much everything that needs to be said about the place has been said in other reviews, so I just ditto everything. If you are going solo like I usually am on work trips, they do have a platter for one wich is awesome. You get to sample a lot of different foods, and its very difficult to finish. I didnt make it 1/2 way through the patter. I think it was $18. Pros: Free Parking, Good Prices, Great Food Cons: Noisy more

Great dine, great value! 9/25/2004

first time here in the twin cities and met the restaurant by accident. tried the scallop appetizer, definitely a must-try for everyone. 2 fragrant garlic breads and 10 scallops in a butter wine sauce so delicious you would want to scoop every last drop of it. for entree, try the platter combo, great value for SO MUCH food. Let me warn you, German food are very very heavy. So for those who want to lose weight, this is NOT the place. Waiters are friendly, but the room can be noisy (Bavarian live music/accordion) and frustrating at times. an excellent German welcome to the Twin Cities. Pros: delicious food, great value, nice service Cons: , noisy live music more

Great German Food 8/4/2004

An excellent restaurant with excellent food. Bring your appetite. You'll get lots of food and lots of beer. I recommend bringing about 8 or more people and make reservations because they get busy. If you like beer, order the boot and pass it around the table. Some of my fondest memories were created at this restaurant. After you eat, be sure to go downstairs and polka. Don't forget to try the snuff while you are there. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Beer more

I drive 300 miles to eat here!! 12/19/2002

I love coming here when I'm in town to eat-and have even been known to get up and lead the dining room in the chicken dance!! The atmosphere is very fun. I recommend sharing a platter with someone the first time you come so you have a chance to taste several different menu items. more

Sehr geil und echt 8/14/2002

This is my 2nd favorite german restaurant right after the Black Forest Inn. The food is definitly authentic german cuisine. The rouladen are to die for - the beer is fantastic. Being a german myself I can only recommend this place to someone who wants to get the feel of being in a middle/southern german restaurant/bar. The service was very friendly. Pros: Great food, Great beer, Cool bar downstairs Cons: Building=unauthentic more

Gemutlichkeit 5/25/2002

Authentic German food at reasonable prices. A wide selection of German beers on tap. Bavarian atmosphere which usually includes an accordion player. Great seasonal special events like Mai Fest, Sommer Fest, and Oktoberfest. Pros: Free Parking more
