After having visited all of the classic Irish pubs in the DMV during previous St. Paddys Day celebrations, my crew and I decided to venture to Garretts in Georgetown for the annual drink fest. Upon first walking in I knew that the bar would have an interesting mix of drinkers ranging in all different ages.
The upstairs had a quaint dinning terrace area with a glass roof and lots of privacy, perfect for those wanting to enjoy a nice dinner prior to slamming irish car bombs. The bartenders were some of the most down-to-earth friendly chaps in D.C.
The food was definitely the most surprising thing about this G-town dive bar. My friends and I split a basket of chips and salsa to coincide with the mini sampler, a plate of sliders -- Cheeseburger, Chicken Salad, and BBQ chicken. I have to say each were DELICIOUS and definitely worth having again. At first I honestly did not expect much of the food in the run down Irish pub, but the food and service past my expectations.
As much as I enjoyed this bar, the bill at the end of the night was slightly higher than I had anticipated. However, this bar has alot of character and alot of friendly bartenders making it a definite must try in D.C.
I recommend stopping by Garretts for a pint or two, and checking out the mini sampler, but beware of the g-town prices in the not so preppy bar.
