Editorial review from Citysearch 2/16/2014

This facility is by far the worst facility you can bring your loved ones to. My loved one has been there 3 days transfered because of a total knee surgery, and he has been ignored by nurses. He has had to wait up to 25 minutes after pressing the nursing signal for any assistance. He had to walk to the hallway to ask for assistance. This is after they let an icepack melt on his bed onto the floor where he had to walk and almost trip on the wet floor. This is a painful surgery he had to go through and to get transferred to a facility where he has no trust in the staff is not acceptable. The CNA's and nurses do not know why he is there??? They ask every day. Why? Is this a training facility??? This is very discouraging. I am bringing him home and with a sigh of relief. He deserves better, like all human beings. The only people being treated with any respect and proper care are residents that have family that can be there every day. Some can not. That is not care. That is a facade. I sincerely hope anyone looking to bring their elderly family into a facility, to 'thoroughly' check their history which is public information. God Bless all. more

Terrible Place 1/11/2012

My family member has been here for over 2 months. when she first go there, they didn't have any info on her, it was like she wasn't ever supposed to go. It took over a week for them to get things straigtened out and even then things are still not straigtened out. They don't know how to care for people. The CNA says one thing the Nurse says another. We don't know if they are coming or going. Nothing is ever right. She doesn't get the food she has asked the Dietician for, so she doesn't eat half the time. She now has a bowel infection from sitting in them. Yes, sitting in them. They can't be bothered to move the patient from bed and to wheel chair. Her stuff is always moved away from her and she is dehydrated because se can't get to her water. This is a terrible place. Yes, some of the people who work there are very helpful and do what they can, but the Dr. basicaly doesn't care and said something like, ""she's still alive what more do you want?"". No, she does not have Kaiser or Medicare/Medical. Maybe she should get Medical as the people below said she might get better care. The Physical Therapist seem to help her though, as my family member says they are very helpful. She just doesn't get enough time with them, 1 time every 3 days is not enough! more

Advice for Picking a Nursing Home 6/29/2010

I worked in many skilled nursing facilities as a Registered Dietitan. My advice to anyone looking at placing a loved one in a SNF/nursing home is to ask them for their last State survey report. These facilities are required to have a State surveyor come in EVERY year and go over every aspect with a fine tooth comb. From the kitchen to housekeeping and especially nursing. Any descrepencies or anything not up to standard and code has to be corrected and they will sometimes return before the year is up depending on how severe the error is ( for ex: dehydrated patients or too many patients with bed sores). This state report is supposed to be made available to anyone that wants to read it. It may be lengthly and detailed but you should see a summary page that will give you a good idea about the shape the facility is in and/or what are the problems. Keep in mind, I've worked in over 20 different skilled nursing home and no one ever has a perfect survey. There are some horrible places and some great places and most are pretty decent with people working there that care and will take care of your loved one. more

Nice People.... 4/28/2009

Our mother was admitted there after suffering a stroke. When she first got there she had Kaiser, I think how they treat you there has alot to do with insurance, Kaiser made them get EVERYTHING!! ( even to check if she had a UTI, a 10.00 Test) Approved by them. The Dr. Hardly came to look at her unless he was already there. The nurses and staff were very helpful, and considerate. After about 3 months I finally got Medical for her and cancelled the kaiser. She know gets checked on a regular basis. They actually sent her to go get another MRI to see if the stroke had effected anything else, something kaiser never did. So If your thinking of sending your Loved One to this Place my advice to you is if you got Kaiser DON'T, Unless your planing on being there everyday, because that's the only way we would have ever known that she was never getting looked at. Other than that this place has people that care, good food (my sister goes eats with my mom on some days just because the food) the therapists are great, The staff is very helpful, her bed is always clean, they have laundry service ( we wash her clothes), My mom has never had bedsores ( shes been there for 7 months) Shes clean ( but alot has to do with us being there everyday) and about the only thing wrong is that they train CNAs there and sometimes you get some that don't want to do what is required. So you got to make sure they brush her teeth or ask that they not let the traines help them, other than that I would recommend it, and so would my mother. Pros: Very friendly Environment. Cons: A few. more

Garden City is not a ""FIVE STAR PLACE "" 12/28/2007

My mother went to Garden City , ""it was a five star place."" I visited the place and said no this is not the place I want my mother to go. Well she went , Kaiser. The place is very dirty and my mother did receive the care she needed. It was hard to get a doctor to look on her for the care she needed and finally my sister demanded an ambulance take her back to the hospital.. she is still in very bad shape with a bowl infection, that Garden City said was common from rehab faciltiies. She had a fever of 102 and they still would not call the doctor. Pros: When I think of one I will let you know Cons: My mother said the food tasted like the place smelled more

Garden City Rehab Center - Doing a Good Job! 9/9/2007

After a stay at Emmanuel hospital, my father was brought to Garden City Rehab in Modesto. He's been there almost 2 weeks and so far has had a good experience!... He likes the food (compared to hosp) and each and everytime we've been there to visit he has had lots of attentive nurses and therapists come in. He has not had any complaints about the staff and would not be shy about sharing... more

My father-in-law is staying there, and he has had the worst care ever. They don't check on him, they are roud to him and us when ever we call to talk to him. They neglect him. And they only have a Dr. see their patients once every 2 wks. He was in there for 5 days before he got a check up from the Dr. And when he was transfered to their facility, they didn't have any facts correct about him. It is like they had someone elses chart. NOT RECOMENDED. Cons: roud nurses, poor attention, unorganized more
