If you have never experienced food from Indian after you have eaten at Gandhi you will still not have experienced food from India. I had dinner there last night with friends and it was the most boring eating experience I have ever had. Indian food should be very aromatic and pungent with flavor. The food at Gandhi was colorful but over cooked and the sauce did not even hint at curry. You get better curry at Trader Joes and when you make it yourself. The tandoori chicken was dry and they served some mysterious sausage meat that was not descripted. If you like Indian foods then I recommend that you do not waste your money. If you like bland food then you will enjoy colorful gravy on you food but still have no idea what Indian food is all about. The service was very polite and they did their best to accommodate our large group by getting food, drinks and keeping water glasses full. They are not very skillful with placing food on the table and splashed water every time they poured. I would have not given it any stars. more

If you?re looking for good Indian food in Tucson, avoid Gandhi?s. Seriously, it?s the worst Indian food I?ve ever had. It?s worse than the boil-in-a-bag Indian meals. I ate about 1/4 of my meal at Gandhi?s tonight. The only enjoyable part of the meal was the two tablespoons of dal on my thali plate. The garlic naan I ordered had garlic salt instead of real garlic. The bindi masala I ordered, as part of my thali, was made from a tomato sauce that tasted like ragu. The okra was gross and mushy. Obviously it was made with frozen okra. The cook even managed to destroy the samosa, which tasted like stale vegetable oil. If Gandhi's is supposed to be one of the better Indian restaurants in Tucson, get ready for Indian food purgatory. Surprisingly, very dirty windows greet you upon arrival which almost caused me to skip this restaurant. The buffet was not well managed however the restaurant was somewhat crowded at the time. The sag paneer was good but a little on the dry side for me. Their soup of the day could have been skipped---very watery. The gobi and mixed vegetable dishes were good to very good. The one piece of tandoori chicken I took was undercooked. The lamb meat-balls were very good to excellent. No sweet on the buffet. Pros: good value Cons: ambiance feels crowded more

Now, I love Indian food... I really do. Nothing gets me happier than a tasty masala and a strawberry lassi, (they don't have them there, but if they did!!). Gandhi's customer service is a little lackluster, but it makes up for that everywhere else. The meals are served on a traditional metal compartmentalized tray. It brings back a touch of cafeteria nostalgia, but then you realize that it removes so much clutter!! Everything I've had has been full of flavor and not overpowering with the spicy. Of course, if you order the hot stuff, you won't be disappointed there either. My boyfriend has quickly become a fan of the Rogan Josh and the Vindaloo. The food is not great, but reasonable for the price. They do appear to have old, stale food sometimes for the buffet, but reasonably fresh most of the time. But the customer service is a spoiler. Some of the staff need to learn the ABC's of customer service and simply stop being rude. My friend and I went to this place for the lunch buffet and were ticked off for leaving food half-eaten on the plate, which appeared to be old and stale in the first place!! If you like your lamb rare and tender the lamb kabob item they have is wonderful. Very tender and cooked to perfection for a $9.99 dinner entree. Each meal is served with plenty of sides and this is Indian home cooking at it's best. Not over powering so even kids who can't handle a lot of spice will enjoy their food. Two of us with appetizers and entree and drinks spent under $40 with tip. Excellent meal and I want to go back and try the $5 buffet at lunch! This is my favorite indian restaurant in tucson. I have been to India Oven and Sher-E-Punjab as well, but when combining all factors Gandhi comes in first. I really enjoy the veggie samosas(deep fried pastry filled with curried potatoes and peas) with mint chutney, the spicy lamb meatballs make my mouth water, the saag paneer(creamed spinach) is my favorite, and dal maharani(spicy lentils) is good. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you prefer bland and watered down food. The service was fine, but the food had no flavor. The restaurant was disappointing especially after reading the first review. Being Indian & having just moved here from Chicago, I am on the hunt for a good Indian restaurant.
