If the board terminates someone, they must have had a reason. I would recommend this school based on its teachers, and how well the students learn. This school environment as I have observed is an environment in which students can excel, and they can actually learn and feel valued. This is a private school. If one has the money to afford such an education, as my family does, they are very blessed as we are. Every school will always have people who are disgruntled. What matters here is the students, and from what I have observed, from my own experience with my children, they are above grade level, and enjoy attending school. There is no bullying at this school. I plan on keeping my child in this school through grade 8, and I hope that they can create a high school program, so she can have a high quality education and not get lost in the huge public school systems in this state. \r \r I also want to point out that most people who write reviews on sites like this, and also yelp, are usually upset-or extremely satisfied. I agree with the person that said to go check out the school for yourself, this is a school-not a restaurant. more

I have no complains from the school environment and the academics. But all of a sudden when the board fired the Principal of the school without any warning is a big question mark on the parent's face. The school principal Mrs. Bonnie Cerrace spent her 18 years of life for building up this best school. She started this school with few kids and now the school is upto a middle and a plan in the future for building up a high school as the parents suggested for that in the past. A board meeting was organised to answer the questions of the parents concerns regarding the immediate fire of the principal but the board members couldn't answer any of the parents questions which makes the parents very upset. And most of the parents were not agreed when board has done with Mrs. Cerace. And the board neither able to satisfies the parents nor be able to take back their decision. Parents lost faith in the board and who has the law in their hands for running this school. Because it is considered as an injustice done to the principal, Mrs. Bonnie Cerrace, many of the excellent staff members of the school have resigned from their positions which is again a big worry for the parents as they are paying a lot for the good education and also school is already started now for a while. If this decision is not made right by the board members, it is going to be a big loss of the kids .And in the future also, big loss to the reputable school. By firing the principal, all kids , staff members and parents are shattered. They are not coming to the school with passion and love to teach and learn. I wish a better school year without a capable principal and a staff. more

Ignore the negative reviews from a single disgruntled parent who posts under numerous names. Go to the Galloway School and talk to the hundreds of happy parents and students who love it there. Our daughter has been at the Galloway School since PK3 and is now entering Kindergarden. Our youngest daughter is starting PK3 there this fall. We love the school! The education is unparalleled. Thanks to Galloway, my 5-year-old daughter is reading basic sentences and writing them as well. She knows some simple math and science, computer skills, Spanish, and a laundry list of other accomplishments. A large part of that is the fact that the student to teacher ratio can't be beaten! In PK4, my daughter's class size was only 9 kids! The Kindergarden class size won't be much bigger than that. The teachers are loving and caring, yet provide great structure for the kids. Despite the fact that we live in one of the best school districts in Texas, we wouldn't want to send our kids anywhere else. They will get the best education and the best learning environment at The Galloway School. more

My children have been going to The Galloway School for 4 years and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. The teachers are AWESOME and provide a great learning enviroment. Do they ask for donations throughout the year, yes, but this is standard with any private school. Parents need to remember that private schools do not receive federal funding. Having said that, I have never had a problem with not donating or contributing to something for one reason or another. It has never been a requirement and I have NEVER been told that a donation of a certain value is required, as stated by a previous reviewer. Yes, this school is challenging, but that is why we chose it. TGS does not hid the fact that it works on an advanced level. If your child cannot keep up w/ the pace of everyone else or is stressed with the demands, then this school is not right for you. Part of the problem with public school is they go at the pace of the slowest person; TGS does not do this. more

EEOC Sexual Harassment/Retaliation Suits Filed 6/22/2011

The Galloway School has been in the news lately with big problems including teachers filing EEOC suits for sexual harassment and retaliation (see KPRC Channel 2 NBC'S affiliate Houston and the Bay Area Citizen). The 2010-2011 school year ended with 25% of the teachers not returning for the next school year. This school is in big trouble with lawsuits pending and enrollment dropping. Where the school once was able to boast being the "best private school in the bay area" it now works hard trying to reassure the community it has their problems under control. At nearly $9,000 a year tuiton, one would think that the school would not have problems that are splashed across local newspapers and television channels. No need to pay for this sort of education for your child. more

One would assume with low class sizes that a school could accomodate the needs of all students who are admitted. Unfortunately, this is not the case at Galloway. I was told this directly by my child's teacher. Lower school teachers have little authority to do what they feel is best for the child. Either a child is capable of going at the extremely fast pace that is set or the child is left behind. Instruction is not individualized and instruction does not occur in flexible homogeneous groupings. The entire emphasis is on gettting to the end of the book as quickly as possible so they can move on to the next level book. This is poor instruction. \r \r The school is HIGHLY competitive! Everything is a contest or about a contest. My child is so stressed out that they cry almost weekly about their work. I feel the school is robbing my child of their childhood. If your child is gifted (ALREADY) you will probably have a positive experience at Galloway; however, if you are expecting the school more

If your child is gifted (ALREADY) you will probably have a positive experience at Galloway; however, if you are expecting the school to actually take your child from where they are and move them forward by the process of quality instruction, this is not the place for you. The school has many awards and accolades, but I have discovered that many of them are solicited by the school and most quality private schools do not participate in PSIA, which they are quite proud of winning every year. Also, they have plaques in the entry for Daughters of the American Revolution. They have a winning student every year. I looked the contest up and winners come from each chapter of the organization. There are four chapters in Friendswood alone. I highly suspect that one of those chapters has Galloway as the only school submitting papers for the competition. more

Great Family Oriented and well educated school 1/11/2011

The Galloway School on Bay Area in Friendswood is a wonderful school. This is our 2nd year there and I was referred by several friends who kids attend school there. I have been nothing but impressed with the work my child has learned and able to obtain. The staff, not just his teachers, are truly warm and loving. The staff at Galloway know your child. It is a great feeling to walk in or go through the car line where the staff know your child and they say hello, give hugs and just greet them with warmth. I can't believe someone stated that lower school is so cold. That is so not true. more

Best, most advanced curriculum; getting our money's worth!! 9/29/2010

Wow, after reading the past two reviews, I wonder if they were reviewing OUR Galloway school?? The one that was just awarded the "Best Private School in the Bay Area," has won numerous prestigious academic accolades at the state level, and has provided our children with a truly quality education? more

... too demanding on donation.. not much care for the kids 8/24/2010

I as a parent don't feel the nurture and warmth from most of the lower school teachers and the Administration Staff. The assistant principle last year (2009-2010) was the best thing to the school in a long time, and they couldn't keep her. The school is very demanding on "donation". Requests such as "... consider to donate large and expensive items like big HD TV, a nice photography package with s/w and quality camera .." for auction events are very common. I noticed if you make good with donations, the principle and the registrar lady would be very nice to you. Otherwise, they are cold as ice. Don't be fool with the increase enrollment in 2009-2010. A nearby (Pearland) private school closed. The Galloway picked up some student from there. The enrollment in 2010-2011 has gone down. I give 2 stars for low teacher/students ratio and the catered food is good. I have already paid the tuition for the entire year; too late to leave now. I'll take my kids elsewhere next year more

Stay Away from Galloway 1/11/2009

My children attend this school. We have been very unsatisfied with many aspects of the school. The administration has been very difficult to deal with, the teacher turnover rate is high this year and the extracurricular activities are not to the scope promised when we enrolled. For all of the money I pay in tuition, the school offers limited programs and a narrow curriculum. I would NOT recommend this school. Pros: Small Classes Cons: Bad value for cost, difficult administration, ineffective PTO, few extracurricular activities, narrow curriculum more
