I was not impressed with the food, or the service here. The servers forget who they are serving, and they spend more time flirting with co-workers than they do with your meal.

Best in Modesto 1/3/2012

We have dinner at this fine restaurant before attending the Modesto Symphony (we are season ticket holders). Reservations are easy to get, always timely, service is outstanding, wine steward, Nick is knowledgable and friendly, JB and Hershel are our favorite servers. Food is always fresh, very well presented and hot. Considering this restaurant is owned by the Gallo family, the wines are very diverse and moderately priced. The Bocci Ball court in the back is a great place to smoke a cigar, drink fine spirits and interact with fun people. This restaurant deserves Modesto's support, it is a jewel. more

What a Jewlel of a Find ! ! ! 9/9/2011

Bloody Fantastic !!! Dined there last night for the first time. Myself, the wife and another couple. Butternut squash soup was excellent (and vegan). I had the Carbonara Pasta. Instead of scrambled egg mixed in as it is traditionally, it had a poached egg on top. The yolk, when mixed in with the cream sauce was over the top. My wife, a vegetarian had the soup as well and a Margherita Pizza. They make it in the very traditional style....no tomato sauce. Just dough, mozzarella, tomato, basil and oil. Extremely thin and nice and crispy. It was almost like a flatbread. My buddy and his wife shared the calamari dish and said it was quite good. He had a steak (how boring...cook your steaks at home on the grill) but he said it was cooked perfectly. His wife had the Salmon and loved that it was cooked to rare in the middle. Service was efficient, but not overbearing. We got our cocktails immediately and then ordered wine by the glass after. Food came out timely. We did not order dessert. We were talking to our waitress and told her we were impressed with the place and found out it used to be a bank. The next thing we know, the manager came over and offered us a tour. The wine cellar and dining room next to it looked like it was out of San Francisco. I have to say, the other reviewers must have gone to a different restaurant than I did. However, I will come back again and again to see for myself. more

Does not quite fill it's reputation 7/23/2007

The restaurant is gorgeous but does not live up to all that you hear about it. The food was average, you can find a version of it elsewhere. My order came drenched in red wine. The taste was quite overpowering. Aside from all of that, the food is not as overpriced as some say. It honestly depends on what you order. I went with someone and our tab came up to $70. We ordered an appetizer, each had an entre, and two desserts, not to mention drinks. So, yeah. Don't be afraid to dine here. It was a wonderful experience. Enjoyed the food for the most part. Waiter was nice, did take quite a long while to get our order and our food. Must be patient. Pros: Ambience, Surrounding, Wine Cons: Slow service more

Always very professional!!! Like a five star restaurant. 10/31/2006

This place can be EXPENSIVE! Twice that I can recall with large groups we spent over $500 on dinner and drinks! But, the atmosphere, food, service and entertainment is some of the highest quality you will find in Modesto. Owned by the famed Gallo family of Modesto, you can always be sure the wine is top quality and the chef, who is also renowned, will ensure the best dinner for the price. Although dinner is pricey, lunch at Galletto offers a much cheaper version of their dinner menu which has even included Kobe beef hamburgers!! YUMMO! I have eaten lunch for around $10 bucks there and, you still get the amazing service you would expect during a high class dinner. Pros: Although expensive, well worth it! It's fun to get dressed up and go there, it's a classy place but it's not mandatory. Cons: Can be expensive, if you don't have at least $20 or $30 to spend on yourself alone, don't bother. more

No Return 2/22/2006

Hmmmmmmmm where do I begin??? The inside is nice but no privacy at tables. I made reservations SEVERAL days in advance for my husbands birthday, arrived and STILL had to wait OVER 30mins to be seated on a Thursday night. ""Fritto"" Appetizer was not ALL that. Had to ask for bread twice, the waitress was S-L-O-W and non existent! A long wait for the dinner and salad. Not to mention we were seated near the door, each time someone entered or exited we froze! During dinner the lights (which are dimmed) got dimmer and flickered a few times.?? Dinners are pricey for the small portion sizes. I was discusted. We will not return. more

Worst service 2/24/2005

It's a 'grandiose' restaurant and the outside patio is actually very nice but the biggest problem here is the service! I have tried it 4 times in three years and have been disappointed every time. Everything from 'lost reservation' to rude and/or confused hostess to waiters who don't know their food. I had to send soup back that was not hot... Once you get your food it's very good but minuscule portions definitely are not worth the hefty prices. The word 'pretentious' comes to mind every time I'm there... It could be a really good restaurant, very centrally located downtown, but they need to get their personel problem solved and offer at least medium sized portions. Pros: Outside dining, Location, Food quality Cons: Staff, Food quantity, Prices more

Modesto's Finest! 11/13/2002

Our first visit to Galletto was fabulous! The food was delicious and creative, the ambiance - lovely, the service - superior. We'd go back in a heart-beat! Cons: no music more

Never return 10/13/2002

Two hours to complete sunday brunch. Lost order. Served same course twice. Soup warm, fruit warm, omlet greasy, sausage sandwich tastless and greasy. Manager tried to make amends even though we did not complain. Obviously knew there was a problem. No way to correct the problems after the fact. Free drink offer does not help after a bad meal. reservation was at 12:30 0n 10/13/02 Cons: service, cooking, price more
