Best

Had a awesome time there the other night watching the twins game! Had a few beers, and the burger I had was awesome! It is a great place to catch any game....they have about 20 ...

Worst

Good location but the bar food is uneven. Wings not bad, nachos up and down. Nearby American Sports Bar has better food and service. The waitresses are well-meaning at Gabe's, but...

NEVER BEEN TREATED WITH SUCH DISRESPECT 1/28/2011

I've never had more of a horrible experience anywhere. The management blames their lack of customer service on the fact that they have recently switched management, but come on, do I have to suffer and pay for bad service because you keep switching managers?\r \r I went there for a birthday party and we were all using a restaurant dot com coupon for $100 off when you spend $200. By the way, THEY NO LONGER ACCEPT RESTAURANT (dot com) COUPONS!!! so, only because we purchased the highest coupon you could get, (that I personally paid $40 for) they let us use it anyways. However, I wish they would have said no because then the manager proceeded to tell us how we ""Weren't making him money"" and so when our service was horrible he was like ""there's nothing I can do because I'm already letting you use the coupon."" Is it my fault that you still have your company on Restaurant (dot com) website? \r Also, Our server was left to serve 2 tables of over 8 people by herself because it was ""College Night"" and the other waitresses were too busy hanging out and milling around the dance floor. Dishes piled up quickly at our table and we had to clear them off ourselves by putting them at a table behind us, then our server would take our drink order and would disappear for over 20 mins. Our entire experience lasted for 3 hours bc we were just left waiting for the majority of time.\r \r All in all, no one in my party will ever go back to Gabe's Roadhouse. This new management only cares about $$ signs and could care less about the paying customers that keep them in business. \r \r P.S don't believe there website either, I checked out the specials before we went there and they said ""Ladies Night"" started at 9pm and it was 2 for 1's. However, when you get there (because of the ""Management Switch"") it actually starts at 10pm and you have to pass through the dance floor to get the drinks at the back of the bar. I was there for a dining experience and they tell me I have to get up numerous times and walk all the way to the back of the restaurant to get a drink special. It's just rude!! more

Great place to watch the game! 9/11/2010

Had a awesome time there the other night watching the twins game! Had a few beers, and the burger I had was awesome! It is a great place to catch any game....they have about 20 HD TVS! They have a great selection of beers on tap and in the bottle. I will deffinatly be going back for many more games to come as they have awesome gameday specials and shuttle service! more

Best Tavern to watch any Sports Game at in the Twin Cities 9/9/2010

Every night I have been in Gabe's, they have had every Twins game on all of their TV's which seems like 20 big 50""+ flat screens in HD. I watched the Vikings NFL Kickoff game tonight against the Saints at Gabe's and they gave away free beer 1 hour prior to the game which was awesome. They also had the sound of the game on. The food and service was amazing-- the drinks even better and it all was so reasonable and affordable. Big portions, great tap selections and friendly service. Overall a positive atmosphere. Only downside to Gabe's is that it's a Packer bar on Sundays. I'd definitely go back! Keep it up! more

Great Service, Great Atmosphere, Sports Tavern much Alive! 9/9/2010

Gabe's has definitely stepped it up a few notches and you can tell with all of the buzz inside the neighborhood spot... I don't know what it is but it's something different. It might be the new Family-style management or the impeccable service and don't let me forget, the sports memorabilia going back up on the walls along with them running shuttles to/from Target Field for Twins games, Xcel Energy Center for Wild games or TCF Bank Stadium for Gopher games. This place has become amazing in Saint Paul and has seemed forgotten about but rumor on the street is that it will once again be Gabe's ""the sports bar & grill,"" and not the ""Roadhouse"" because the sports theme has created all the buzz since the Twins and Saints started playing this year. Also, what a great place this is to host any party or group over 10, I've heard nothing but good things from friends & family and I agree myself about how easy they are to work with and the value and service that they provide. Like I said once before, this Gabe's is the new Gabe's, the ""fun"" Gabe's and trust me, they will take care of you and truly enjoy serving their customers and give them the best value in Saint Paul. Stop by any night of the week and they always have specials! more

Definitely not worth your time or money! 8/14/2010

Terrible experiences all around. We tried to give them a chance after hearing there was new management however have been disappointed every time we've visited. While it is great to be able to shuttle to Twins games, calling the restaurant to determine when shuttles were leaving, staff gave us inaccurate information and times of departure. The front bar staff appeared to be ""put out"" for any requests of patrons. Food is below average and they refuse to do substitutions and charge extra for any special requests. Staff appears to me not educated on any matters of the restaurant other than when they are off for the night. Waitresses have no idea what beers are on tap or bottle only and again feel put out if you have any special requests. They claim to be a ""Packer Bar"" and advertised ""Pre-season Packers"" however failed to produce audio or video coverage until well into the first quarter of the first pre-season game. more

Worst Experience!!! 7/31/2010

First, I have to say it was not the waitress's fault!! The rest. was full and I only saw 2 waitresses attempting to serve everyone. NOT GOOD!!! I further came to find out that there was a party of 19 ""in the back room"" that took complete priority over everyone in the rest. No one, yes, no one was served any food during the hour we were there waiting for our order. The manager, or someone who was posing as the manager that didn't identify himself as such talked to the table next to us telling them they were out of corn dogs. Excuse me?!?!?! It was only 6pm, this was also paired with the lack of chicken wings my wife & I attempted to order as an appetizer. Our second choice was the Nachos.... bad choice!!!! After 1 hour, and what seemed to be part of the party of 19 was leaving, we were served our Nachos. You know the kind that were rubbery & greasy resembling something that has been sitting under the warming light too long..... I was optimistic, hoping that the Nachos would warrant our choosing to stay for supper. Wrong!! We couldn't take anymore and left without receiving the steaks that we had ordered over an hour earlier. This just shows me that the so-called manager did not prepare for the party of 19 with the appropriate staff, as a matter of fact, my question would be why wasn't he in the kitchen helping out with the cooking to serve the patrons in the restaurant. I will be telling EVERYONE I know to avoid this restaurant at all cost. Pros: Location Cons: Food, Service, Silverware, you name it. more

Extreme Makeover!! Great Deals and Service! 9/17/2008

Gabe's has recently had a Extreme Makeover!! The new owners and management have spent a tremendous time redecorating and creating a better atmosphere for the customers to enjoy cocktails or dinner. I have been in the restaurant on many occasions and love the way that they great you at the door! Now that?s good customer service! I have always had excellent service and love hearing about the new things that are going to be happening at Gabe's . Some of the things the managers have told me is the will soon introduce the new name Gabe's Roadhouse which i think fits that restaurant perfectly! I have heard that the new menu is on its way any day now, and I cant wait to get back in there and try it to enjoy more fabulous meals. This restaurant has come a long way from what it used to be. Living around the area really makes it nice to have a good restaurant only 5 mins from my house. I would defiantly recommend this to families and couples for dinner or just going to grab a few drinks during happy hour with live music!! Great job Gabe's keep up the good work! -Betsy Pros: Great Customer Service, Awesome Meals, Live Music during happy hour! Cons: Nothing more

Setting the record straight! 9/5/2008

Can I just address the girl that has personally attacked Skeeter in which she has only met for a mere moment...shame on you!!! I would say that you have some deep personal issues that you need to work through...some may call it a major case of jealousy of ones friend. I have met Skeeter on several occations and he has always been a perfect gentlemen to me and all of my girlfriends that have come to Gabes. He is full of new and exciting ideas, and what changes he's made have been a pleasant surprise . He greets everyone that comes into Gabes as if they were a friend...not as some ""pervert"" as she had stated. \r Why would anyone go online and personally bash someones reputation without even knowing them..some class. Class is what Skeeter is all about. \r So..people reading the womans hateful email please disregard, because if you ask anyone they will tell you what a pleasure it is to go to Gabes and meet thier friendly staff, eat their delicious food and be greeted by Skeeter himself!\r Sincerely, more

AWESOME SERVICE!!! 9/5/2008

What an improvement!!!!! Last time we went here was about 5 years ago. It went from a little sports bar to now becoming a relaxing, cool restaurant with new ideas, FABULOUS FOOD (homecooked, big portions), and friendly, attentive staff. Love how the owner and manager came out to greet us and take the time to make sure our experience was a good one! The place was bigger inside than we thought & clean with a lot of different things going on. Had the Steak special on a thursday night and we couldn't believe how much flavor & how BIGGGG!!!! Great deal - small-town feel!!! Husband ate all his, but I took half home and heated the next day with every bit of flavor it had the night before!!! Highly recommended restaurant in the heart of St.Paul!!! Keep up the Good Work!!! Pros: AWESOME STEAK SPECIAL!!!!! Cons: NONE! more

Great before Saints games! 11/12/2006

I love Gabe's...everytime I go there, I end up leaving with a new friend or two. People there are just so friendly and you wind up talking with everybody there. Check out Gabe's before and after Saints games for some real fun! This is a great one-of-a-kind place if you're like me and fed up with the coookie-cutter Sportsbars (i.e. Champps, Joe Sensor's). Pros: Unique, Fun Cons: No DJ more

Just painted and redecorated 10/13/2006

I think Gabes is one of the last bars on earth where people are people and the staff remembers your name and the last conversation you had the last time you were in. They upgraded the tv's - cleaned it up, got a jukebox and repainted. You could compare this bar to Cheers - where you feel comfortable and can get some great homecooked food. Gabes caters to all sports groups and has a great banquet area. Lots of new specials and late night hh, it's just a great place or hh or family dinner. Pros: Always a special going on Cons: No dj more

You've got to be kidding... 9/5/2006

What a dump. I feel bad for the people that work in the Bandana Square area if this is the only choice for food within walking distance. An absolute disaster from the minute I walked through the door. My table smelled like old dish rag complete with a menu that stuck to the surface. Flies EVERYWHERE! Our waitress had the personality of a lamp post. Seriously, it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. I wouldn't tell a starving soul to eat at Gabe's. The only saving grace is the cute little lady that welcomed everyone coming in and out of the door. This place should close for a week and have a good scrub down. It's filthy. Maybe a week wouldn't be long enough. more

Everything you need........... 1/21/2006

Wow, the service, the food, the drink prices......WHAT MORE COULD I ASK FOR IN A BAR. PACKERS ARE WELCOME AND IOWA FANS ARE TOO. THEY DON'T HAVE PLASMA TV'S BUT WHO NEEDS THAT. Whoa I was writing in CAPS sorry! Ok yeah go there its great any time of the day! Pros: Service, Drinks, Prices more

Good bar/restaurant no matter what the event 10/20/2005

This is a good place to meet up with friends / coworkers after a long day at the office, after a victory on the ballfield, before or after a concert or just for the heck of it. The food here is really good, cant go wrong with the buffalo chicken sandwich, pasta a la gabes, any type of burger or chicken nachos. The servers are very friendly and attentive. If you are a Packers, St Paul Saints or Iowa Hawkeyes fan, stop in for a game or two, you wont be disappointed. Pros: Food, Service, Game Time Atmosphere Cons: Parking on SPS Nights, Bathrooms more

Go pack go 8/4/2005

Packer bar in minnesota, since minnesota is full of packer fans they need more bars like these, i have been to viking bars in minneapolis and st paul that arent this packed or fun for football games. The food was ok, but dont go there just to eat, have a drink and watch the game more

Good drinks for expats 1/8/2003

I showed up at Gabes for the Iowa vs. Michigan game and was presently surprised by the bar. I didnt have high expectations but the drinks were hard (not too stiff) and the service was great so I was pleased. Judging by the number of Packer and Iowa Hawkeye fans, this bar seems to be a home court for the visiting team. Pros: Hawkeye fans, Spirited fans, Inexpensive Cons: Physical condition more

just alright 10/12/2002

Good location but the bar food is uneven. Wings not bad, nachos up and down. Nearby American Sports Bar has better food and service. The waitresses are well-meaning at Gabe's, but there appear to be way too few of them. It is acceptable but keep expectations low. Pros: location, patio Cons: food, service more

Green Bay sucks 7/29/2002

I hate this place, what is a Packer bar doing in the middle of St. Paul. Sure it's fine to hang out after a Saints Game but that is no excuse for the Packer theme. more
