Furniture Hospital

I brought two wood chairs to the Furniture Hospital. The base of each chair needed re-gluing. A price was quoted, and it seemed high, but I wanted to support small business, so I decided to have them do the work. About a week later, I had a message on my answering machine saying that the chairs were ready and that one of the chairs needed more work than originally thought - they had to re-glue the entire chair. They wanted to charge an additional $30! When I called the shop, I was told that they decided to re-glue it because it needed it - that it wasn't safe to sit in. I said I would have appreciated if they would have at least called and ASKED if I wanted the additional work done. The chair is an accent chair and not used for seating. The woman agreed to ""give me a break"" and reduced the additional work by $15. Even with the ""break"" the total cost was too much for two chairs. It also is poor business practice to perform additional work without consulting the customer, and then expect them to pay for it. more

Stopped in here after stopping across the street at another Upholstery shop. Friendly, and busy. Lots of fabric samples. They offer Pickup and Delivery (fee ),Street level, no stairs. Estimates over the phone again are a guess, however they did inform that price is only a guess and would be better to see the furniture. The in store price was close to the phone price. They had some more unique pieces in their shop that were being worked on both in process and finished. Again best to get a quote and do your homework..shop for price, pickup-delivery, what is included what is not. Their quote included everything except fabric (you can buy separately) and new cushion fillings (quoted separately if needed). They didn't charge you additionally for every button, zipper, snap, staple, or padding. The price was all inclusive which was nice. more
