No Fun Allowed 12/9/2011

Went in to celebrate a friend's birthday with a group of 8 women on a Friday night. After a good dinner and one drink each the hostess/manager asked us to quiet down. We were a little taken aback but then she got rude. This is no place to go if you want to have a fun evening. I'll never go back again and I live in the neighborhood. What a joke. more

Another sushi gem in Sudbury 4/19/2010

Excellent, fresh and fast sushi. Expansive and diverse menu - and one of the best selling points of the restaurant is that it has a full japanese menu and the sushi bar and menu is just extra. I have only tried the sushi, however look forward to trying other parts of the menu. You can go alone, at lunch for the sushi bar - or sit in the restaurant for a meal with one or an entire group. Tastefully decorated. Comes up quickly on Boston Post Road - if you are coming from Boston going West on 20 and you see a sign for Marlborough you have gone too far. If you are going east towards Boston on Route 20 and you see a Shaw's plaza, again you have gone too far. Pros: fresh, fast, and a great menu Cons: plaza is too small more

dont say i didnt warn you 3/26/2008

Go here if you are on a tight budget or if all the other sushi joints are full. you walk in the door and your hair is blown away by the air conditioner above you- no wonder the valet guys stand inside and open the door for you- they need some way to get you to keep walking in to the restaurant.... its noicy- like a diner- and the don't feel that the sushi is fresh enough, or made with care, the edemame- wasnt fresh looking or tasting- i like it warm and salty- this was not all the way warm and hardly tasty- the waiter did not seem to take his time with our order- i left laughing about how awful it was- I am now a stickler for Oishi (across town and chestnut hill- pricy but worth every cent) and Mr Sushi (right around the corner on Harvard St.- not tooo pricy). Pros: cheap- but not that cheap Cons: entrance, wait staff, environment, food quality more

Excellent sashimi. Very attentive service, too much pressure on quick payment. 10/14/2007

I was recommended this restaurant by locals. I am from Sydney, Australia which undoubtedly has some of the best Japanese restaurants around, but Fugakyu lived up to its reputation. I have been a few times, and each time I haven't been disappointed. It has a really fun atmosphere, and great private rooms. I would recommend the Edamame (salted, steamed soya beans) as a starter and the sushi/sashimi boat, which is great value for a group of people. Steer clear of the desserts (especially the banana coated with chocolate and fried, tempura style!). Service was very prompt and friendly, although, the pressure to pay quickly and get out, ruined the end of the dinner a little. Still, a fun and great experience. more

SUSHI!!!! Pros: sushi Cons: ? more

Great food and service but SMALL rolls for the price 8/3/2007

We have been to the Sudbury Fugakyu many times. The sushi is always very good, however, we always find that the rolls are small for the money they charge and thus we are always dissappointed (for this reason, we rarely go here anymore, but go to Oishi down the street. Oishi has been closed for rennovations hence we ended up at Fugakyu last week-end). We often order a number the of specialty rolls, rolls they charge $9-15 for, and find that the same or similar rolls at Oishi are noticeably larger, and sometimes less expensive as well. Our friends that came to Fugakyu with us for their first time also agreed. We did get some nigiri and found those slices to be quite generous. But the rolls, which we primarily order, always disappoint, which is a pity because they are otherwise very good and they have such a varied selection. The service here is always very nice as well. One thing they do have over Oishi is size - plenty of tables; we are almost always seated immediately. Overall, I do think Fugakyu is a great restaurant but nonetheless we will always prefer Oishi as we get much more b ang for our buck there, for sushi that is just as good, if not better, than Fugakyu. Pros: Service, good food/sushi, plenty of seating Cons: Sushi rolls are small for the prices they charge more

an oasis of magnificent japanese cuisine 8/20/2006

I stopped in one afternoon on my way back to Boston from Marlboro. They had just opened for the afternoon and I was seated at a great table without delay. The server was very helpful and seemed to anticipate my every need. When the dishes came I was delighted at the beautiful presentation on a Bento Box. Usually a rather bland collection of lunch food this was SUPERB. I had a wonderfully satisfying and healthy lunch highlighted by fresh Miso soup and delicious cuts of prime sushi. the decor is peaceful and open giving the visitor a sense of contentment and relaxation. I loved the Brookline issue now I am going to make the suburban locale one of my ""get outta Boston"" destinations. Make the short trip. It's worth it!! Pros: In the middle of the western suburbs this gem Cons: Out in the middle of the western suburbs. more
