I have been going to Friends for over five years now and would not trust my hair to anyone else. My stylist is Oz and he is amazing. He does the best color and highlights and great blowouts too.He is very honest and he will tell you if something will not look good. He also makes sure my hair stays healthy and is not over processed. I recommend booking him in the morning as the afternnon gets really busy. My friends all go here too and love it. I had an appointment with this salon for an updo for a wedding. This place was recommended to me by a friend so I felt confident going to a new salon. I was a little early when I got there, so I was asked to take a seat for a few minutes. Then Oz came and introduced himself to me & had me go sit at the sink to have my hair washed. After my hair was dry, he asked me what I wanted & I explained in detail & he said, ok.. don't worry and went to work on my hair. When he finished, it looked half done... you could see bobby pins in my hair everywhere. My hair literally looked like I just woke up and got out of bed. DO NOT GO HERE! I have been to many salons before and Friends is a keeper so far. Oz is my main man and he really knows what he's talking about. He has an eye for whats good for you.\r \r My hair has been much healthier (I get highlights every 6-ish weeks) and it's not crispy or burnt. I don't use a hair iron anymore (ok, maybe special events or humidity). \r \r Only thing that's annoying (its ceased though) is the fact that they try and sell the brazilian keratin. Now I know why I don't see many people go to this salon. I went in with a photo of what I wanted and somehow ended up with something completely different. Besides of being burnt during blow-drying, and hair being pulled during the layering process which was after blow-drying (sharpen those layering scissors or do it while my hair is still wet!), the blow-dryer person had the audacity to use the same brush someone else had just used (isn't this a health code violation?). Seriously not worth the price, considering besides of not getting what I wanted out of the cut, my hair didn't even come out even on both sides. Now I have to pay more money to get this fiasco fixed. I should have just gone to Manhattan for this price. Cons: Everything more

Hi,\r I have been going to expensive hair saloons. I will never again. They have names and good PR's that does not mean they are the best. If you can explain them what you want and if you have a picture of the hair style you want to have you are good to go. I brought them a picture and color sample it was exactly the on in the picture and even better. They speak Turkish but they try to give best service possible. I recommend you bring your sample. Otherwise they speak good English too but in case. They are not fancy but place is nice and clean and away cheaper cheapar cheapar then the once are fancier. They do a great job. I mean GREAT!! I am from Manhattan but I do my hair in Astoria, Ditmars. It is only one train ride away. Go, explain and wait for the great result more

I have been going to Friends for 3 years now, and i always go to Sel, who happens to be the owner. Barish also does good hair, and he does my hair when Sel is unavailable. The prices are affordable - $60 for wash/cut/blowdry, or $30 just to blowdry. I don't trust anyone else with my hair - these Turkish men have an amazing talent. They always cut and style your hair according to the trend. Not to mention, the hair stylists are definitely eye candy! \r \r Two thumbs up to Friends! When I walked in, my hairdresser did not introduce himself, nor did he ask me my name. I explained exactly what I wanted and even brought a photo of myself with the exact cut I wanted. He assured me that he understood exactly what I wanted. During the cut I pointed out twice that I felt that he was cutting too short, but he continued to assure me that it was fine. I have very curly hair which anyone who knows anything about curly hair, knows that it shrinks (gets shorter) as it dries. \r \r Furthermore, during the cut he suggested that i get my hair chemically straightened (very rude unsolicited advice), and when he finished cutting, he told me that I should get a blowdryer and blowdry my hair for 10 minutes so it would 'look right'. Then he unceremoniously, finished and turned his back to me and started working on another client. He did not even show me the back or ask me if I liked it. When I told his assistant that I was unhappy with the cut, the assistant told him, and he just continued to ignore me. I have never been treated so poorly at any salon. I made my appointment two weeks ahead of time and as a new client I would at least expect an introduction and a proper consultation. Obviously I will never go back. This is a great hair salon. You get a NYC hair style with Queens prices!!!! The hair stylist here are truely talented and treat their work as an art. Everyone leaves this place looking great. You have to try it for yourself! Pros: Price, Service and Design Cons: Nothing more

I took my GF to get her hair done when she couldn't get it with her regular stylist. She was beyond words and said that the the guy who cut her hair was amazing, "" Oz was great"". I tried to get an appointment after several tries and I finally got it. I see why she is going there from now on, this place is amazing. Friends Hair Design is a name that suits the company well. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with the Salon and more specifically, with Ozzie. He works magic with his hands and is truly able to create flattering hair styles customized for the individual's specific hair type and shape. It is Friends Hair Design that I trusted to do my hair for my neice's recent wedding and I was very pleased with the results. I heard that they opened another salon in Manhattan (TOKA salon), but I have never been to that location. I would highly recommend the salon. more

As a working mom living in Manhattan with limited free time, I find that Friends Hair Design in Astoria and TOKA salon in Manhattan offer the best service with outstanding quality and convenience. I have worked exclusively with Oz at both locations, which are very easily accessible by subway. Very few people have been able to do an acceptable job on my hair, which is very long and curly. I get my hair highlighted, cut and straightened by Oz. In the past, I'd go to three different hair stylist- one to cut, another to color and a third to straighten. Oz has mastered my hair in ways that no other stylist has ever been able to achieve and has earned my trust and committment with the added convenience of one stop shopping. more

I have lots of very difficult, thick, curly hair. I have tried many salons but now only go to Friends for my highlights, color, cuts, and blow-outs because my hair always looks amazing!! which is not easy for my kind of hair. All my friends and even strangers comment on how good the color is or the style....the blowouts and stylings are the best! I've always went to Ozzie, who works wonders on my hair. He is so creative and takes everything into consideration- the shape of my face, color of my eyes, etc. All of the hair stylists are good there!\r \r They just opened a salon in Manhattan on the Upper East Side on Madison and 66th Street (TOKA).....now I start going there too since it is more convenient to my work. Ozzie works there as well on particular days. Highly, highly recommend Friends, TOKA, and Ozzie!! Pros: very creative, talented, work with you to find what best suits you more

I have been going to this salon for three years now and nothing compares to the highlights Sel does! He also does amazing styles for special occasions ? if Sel isn?t there, Barish does great work as well. The ladies who wash your hair are so friendly. They do everything they can to make sure you are done in a timely manner. \r \r One thing I don't get at Friends is a haircut. Several people I know go there for it and it looks great, but they tend to get scissor-happy. I have long hair and intend on keeping it that way (and they like to layer a lot even though I have fine hair!). Regardless, it is one of the best places to go in Astoria.
