Best

I have been here several times and I always have good food and good service. I especially love coming here in the summer when I can sit on the patio.

Worst

We had a not-so-great breakfast/brunch experience (11:30 am Labor Day). The place was crowded, the service was slow, and if you wanted a clean table you had to clean it yourself....

Not a consistent experience 8/19/2011

The moral of this story is -- this place is not consistently good. I moved to Mpls aprox. 10 years ago and use to love this place! It was my all-time favorite. I still go there often hoping for that 1 in 10 chance that my food will be great. When it's great, it's a taste sensation! Too often my food is half-cooked, chips are stale, coffee is burnt, and the croissant? what happened? They use to be light and flaky and wonderful! Now I think they might be using pillsbury dough and throwing it together :( The deserts are overly sweet and kept on the shelves too long. I do still love the curried chix sandwich and the breakfast burrito. But that's about it. They do accomadate gluten free, vegans and veg-heads which is nice. \r \r The service has about a 50/50 chance of being good. The owner is a jerk, unfortunately I have met him on several occaisions and these occaisions were never complaints. He's very pompous and doesn't treat the staff well. Parking is a pain. The place is loud but this doesn't really bother me. There is outdoor seating which is always nice. \r \r Again, you could luck out and have a great experience. Just don't expect the next time will be the same experience. more

Perpetual taste and presentation 8/12/2011

I visited French Meadow Cafe on Lyndale on a Monday night with my family of 6. The staff was acommodating to our big group, and even let us change the reservation time with no hassle. The ambiance was great and the service was excellent! The food was colorful and hardy. I had the clam chowda and the three beat and pear salad which is always a favorite. The waitress was educated on the menu and her understanding of what the chef has prepared was spot on. The presentation and temperature of the plates were amazing and consistent throughout. The perpetual tastes of each dish was like no other. I will definitely be returning to French Meadow and will make sure that I recommend it to those around me!! I love the $5.00 wine. more

Homophobic server 12/7/2010

Was holding hands with my man. Got sneered at by waiter. Food was cold. Argued with us when we sent it back. We walked...after demanding a refund. more

no thanks 7/21/2010

My boyfriend and I went out for coffee and hash browns today and decided to try out French Meadow. We split a big order of hash browns because the girl said it would be cheaper and just as much food. When they got to our table we couldn't believe that was the BIG order, they were waaay too crunch (and I normally like crunchy hash browns) and they were cold. The coffee was okay, not worth $2 for a mug though. I don't think I'll ever be going back here. But if you're looking for a place to feel like a pretentious hipster, this place is probably right for you Pros: big, lots of choices Cons: bad food more

Have I died and gone to heaven? 3/30/2009

Pros: food food food Cons: busy busy busy more

Disgusting food and BAD service 6/12/2008

Came here on a Saturday morning. It was packed. There were toddlers running around and in between people?s legs. It was LOUD. You have to wait in line and order your food and drinks, pay. Then move over to another line to pick up your juice/coffee etc. Well that line was completely screwed up and no one made our drinks, I guess they were lost in limbo. Once we got our drinks you have to fight in a tiny space to get sugar packets and creamer. I suggest you use your elbows as weapons. Expect to be stepped and poked by children whose parents need to keep them on a tight leash. Once you find a dirty table sit down and wait. Our food runner walked aimlessly around the restaurant and outside holding our food before he spotted us. Our food was cold. I got some sort of vegetarian Cajun scrambled eggs, potatoes, and vegan sausage. Imagine wet cardboard, salt and something that resembled cough medicine. I will NEVER go back here again. If you do go, expect to over pay for bland/horrible food. Pros: You can sit outside, some parking available Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE more

Fresh and Friendly 5/19/2008

The food here is incredibly fresh, and the atmosphere is friendly. Almost anything you order is sure to please, but I would recommend their hummus wrap, breakfast quesadilla, and tomato basil soup. Their hemp bread is also a great item to bring home. more

90% dinning experience were good! 4/29/2008

I have been here for breakfast, dinner for many times including my Valentine's Day dinner. Mostly, the food and service were quite good. Just once, I waited my turkey sandwich for 30 minutes but was not heated as I wanted it to be. When it was sent back, the center was still cold. But most of the dinning experience were good, if you are organic food lover, it's a right place to go. \r \r more

fast service, wonderful food- all around great! 1/19/2008

I have never walked through the door of this place and seen it empty! The line generally is to the door, which can't be bad! You walk in, wait in a line to order, and they bring your order to your table- if you can't find a table they will generally take time time to help you find something. This is not a place to go and take your time, it's a place to go in, eat, and get out. They serve excellent and delicious breakfast and also lunch- i have never been in during dinner hours. If you are in the uptown area, stop in for a bite or a bowl of soup on a cold winter day!! Pros: fast, in and out, service. great food, healthy food! Cons: it's a full house, if you don't like busy, don't go here! more

Best Vegetarian/organic in Town! 6/27/2006

Terrific food, great service, great ambiance.\r Best stuff: 1/2 price wine on saturday night!\r Interesting and creative menu w/ tasty veggie options (I love the tempeh and fish offerings!)\r Great service!-I dont know what others have been complaining about,\r I've been going there for 5 years and never had a problem!\r Great home-made breads\r Had many a romantic dinner here.\r \r The not so great:\r Good breakfasts, but WAY too noisy. I stopped going for breakfast because I couldnt hear myself think!\r Deserts: not so good. Funny that their breads and foods are great! But the deserts always taste kinda stale\r and overly sweet and uninspired to me.\r (Check out ""Patricks Bakery for some really yummy pastries!)\r Too bad Lyndale ave is so busy, I'd love to sitoutside, but dont like breathing car exhaust. Pros: organic veggie food Cons: noisy for breakfast more

Very Good Breakfast 6/8/2006

breakfast here is awesome, ambiance a bit sterile but I think that is due to the cafeteria style seating. The service is efficient and good. The menu is a bit hard to read (on the walls behind the counters) for us old timers, but the choices are wonderful. Will be back soon. Pros: The Food Cons: Seating more

skip dinner - go for breakfast 5/6/2006

I've been here a few times for breakfast and it's always good. It gets really busy though. The bacon and egg croisant sandwich is fabulous. I just went for dinner with my fiance and we both agreed it was only average, and too expensive for what you get. The miso salmon was too salty and didn't have much flavor; the chicken fettucine was also bland. The portions weren't very large for $18, and the service wasn't that great, just average. So to sum it up - go for breakfast and you won't be dissapointed, but dinner isn't worth it. Pros: outdoor seating, parking, breakfast Cons: dinner, service, crowded more

Great Dinner Menu 11/4/2005

French Meadow's dinner has come along way, especially for vegans and fish lovers. We recently had an amazing risotto with acorn squash and shiitake mushrooms. My companion had their pasta special, and apparently they make their own pasta. more

So glad I went! 7/7/2005

On a hot, muggy Saturday night my boyfriend and I were both hungry for something light. After reading about French Meadow Bakery on CitySearch, we decided to give it a try and we were both very happy that we did! We were seated at a quaint little table outdoors where we could take in all the activity on Lyndale. Parking was no problem, there is a small lot next to the place and plenty of free spaces on the street. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer and both had the greek salad with a glass of wine that the waiter recommended (which was excellent). All the ingredients were very fresh with a lot of flavor. We were too stuffed for dessert, but if their desserts are anything like their breads, I'm sure they are delicious! Perfect place for a relaxed date, we'll definitely go back. Pros: Vegetarian Selection, Location, Outdoor Dining more

This Meadow is Cow Friendly 4/16/2005

True carnivores will go hungry here as there is no red meat in sight. Went for a Saturday dinner and the place was packed. Nice wine selections for a small list and the half price deal on Sat nite rocks! The noise level is high so there will be no intimate interludes here but the food was great, even better than Cafe' Brenda but in the same style. (Oddly there is not much in the way of French anything here) The miso salmon was outstanding in every way. Desserts were very well done. Service was average but friendly. If you are a picky eater, this is probably not the hot spot for you for dinner unless you are really into organic/vegan types of cuisine. Pros: Sat nite wine deal!, The Miso Salmon, Sublime desserts Cons: Tight parking, Crowded tables, Noise levels more
