When you enter the waiting area at Dr Kim's, there are several containers of cigarette butts displayed with a poster of normal and diseased lungs. The volunteers at the front desk are very nice. When called back, the nurse was very nice but she had no idea where anything was. I explained to her that I was having pain in my kidney area, and problems with my bladder. Dr Kim came in and didnt even address my complaint. He went into this speech about how overweight I am. Told me to stay away from french fries. I told him how I've tried to lose weight, and he flat out said that I haven't. I was getting angrier by the second. I had to interrupt him to ask, ""What about my bladder?' He said it was because of my big belly, and I should consider myself blessed that he told me this. WHAT A QUACK!!!! WOULDN'T SEE HIM AGAIN EVEN IF IT WAS A LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION!!!! GOOD THING HE DIDN'T ASK IF I SMOKE. more

In response to Whitela 1's response, I understand your commitment to Dr. Kim and your workplace, but Dr. Kim is clearly not the same man you see as to who we see. My first appointment was yestereday. And He had me bawling my eyes out telling me that there was no reason for me to have even come yesterday because If I had no desire to quit smoking and lose weight, then why try to preserve my life anyways. I explained to him that it is harder to quit then he knew. And I explained many attempts on times i've tried qutting smoking and losing weight. His exact words were these, ""Excuses Excuses. You no come back to my clinic if you still smoke and overweight. I mean it. NO come back if you still do them."" And you know what? I won't ever come back. I do plan on quitting because this walking pneumonia prohibits me from smoking anyways. But I rather pay thousands of dollars in hospital bills then to ever have a so-called-christian make me feel so suicidal as he did to me yesterday. Me and Dr. Kim apparently DO NOT serve the same God. Because My God says to love other. To treat them the way you'd want to be treated. And my God says, ""Ye without sin cast the first stone for all have come short of the glory of God."" more

The volunteers here were extremely nice. Dr. Kim was very rude. He was condescending and disrespectful. He barely listened to me. I came in complaining of recurring chest pain and arm/shoulder pain. I told him I had heart work and lung x-rays done & everything was normal. He said I should get my heart checked out. He did not want to listen to what I had to say at all. He didn't give me any useful information...just told me at 147 lbs and 5'6 I am probably overweight and I should do some stretches since I sit at the computer for work. He told me I should wait until I have pain again and only go to the emergency room and not a regular doctor and if this is too expensive, oh well. I figured someone who would volunteer his time to work in a Christian clinic would be at least a little nice, and not automatically treat the patient like she's stupid. I recommend trying a sliding fee clinic or absolutely any other low-cost clinic you can afford. more

I am one of the nursing volunteers and have been for the past year. I just want to say, I have never heard Dr. Kim or anyone else at the clinic make remarks that are derogatory about anyone, every!! And as far as referring a patient out for treatment, you have to qualify for those services through a separate organization called KAPA to get specialist care. They have there own list of qualifications that have nothing to do with the clinic. For example: you have to be a Knox county resident and sometimes they don't have specialists to help with all conditions seeing as the services are FREE. And I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't even examine you, if he didn't exam you then how did he say all those things? (supposedly) Now he does tell people how it is concerning weight and smoking, but he does it in a respectful way. And he does occasionally ask people how come you don't have insurance but that question is not meant to be disrespectful it's just to see the need in Knoxville for healthcare. You where not referred to a specialist because you either didn't meet KAPA's qualifications or there wasn't an orthopedic doctor available at that time. And as far as I know The Free Medical Clinic is the only clinic in Knoxville that will see anyone for free with no charge. So, please don't let this person's review change your feelings about Dr. Kim or the clinic. God bless. more

Save your time everyone, go to the TN Health Dept. I went to the Free clinic on Chapman Hwy for a hurt knee and a hernia. I am over weight and Dr Kim was extremely rude and prejudice against overweight people. He was the most rudest man I've ever met in my life. He said my knee/hernia were caused by my weight. (I fell 8 weeks ago which is how I hurt myself which he ignored completely) He wouldn't examine me or help me at all and just kept repeating how big I was and that I needed Health Insurance. I work at a company that doesn't offer Health Insurance and was referred to this place by a Nurse friend of mine. He wouldn't refer to me any doctors that could help me and said ""No surgeon will operate on your big stomach"" there are people on ""Big Medicine"" twice my size that have operations on hernias so that was an untrue and bias statement from him. When I asked if he was done he said YES, GO!! That is how I was 'dismissed."" I couldn't believe the way I was treated and am telling everyone about my experience to save others such rudeness. This man is not a 'christian volunteering his time' he is a rude prejudice man. Go elsewhere everyone. Cons: rudeness and non helping more
