Brake Service on a Toyota and a VW 7/28/2016

Fred's Wrenchouse did a fantastic job on our Rav4 and Jetta, both of which needed brakes at the same time--and for a very reasonable price. They even machined our rotors for us which most shops don't do these days. Communication and service were perfect, will definitely make these guys my go-to for auto repairs. more

Honest mechanic and extremely knowledgeable. 6/4/2016

Fred always tells it like it is, no sugar coating and total honesty. Fred's was recommended to us by a friend who is a marine diesel mechanic 19 years ago. My wife and I have been taking our cars there ever since and have never been disappointed. If you want the job done right, then you go to Fred's. more

Expensive service with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude 5/30/2016

I bought a used truck and took it here for an overall inspection. When I came back the next day, the cost of the inspection was fair but the cost of the repairs he was recommending was exorbitant. "Probably more tan you paid for that thing." he said. Over time this remark has not sat well with me. It's a sort of presumptuous thing to say. I'll give two stars because the work was fast. Oh haha I almost forgot. Two weeks after the inspection I threw the timing belt, when I saw the belt it was obviously worn and loose, and the inspection at Fred's did not catch this. That was awfully frustrating. I didn't like the service, nope. more

Simple, responsive, accomodating, overall great service! 4/13/2016

I needed a catalytic converter replaced and Fred's was very helpful during the entire experience. From requesting a quote (which was quickly responded to) to the actual repairs, Fred's kept it all quick and simple. Even when I had to return a few days later to get a sensor replaced. more

Good communication 4/13/2016

A good mechanic is hard to find. My car was very well taken care of and before doing any serious work, the mechanic called me to discuss my options and give me more information instead of just doing the work and charging me for it. When I picked up my car (they did the work immediately since I mentioned I couldn't pick up my car the next day), they even showed me the broken part that they took out and replaced. Super honest, great communication. more

Mechanic left oil stains inside of my car 3/3/2016

Whoever did replaced my oil did not take their gloves off when they parked my car outside of the shop. Now I have hand sized oil stains to look at while I drive my car. will not be returning to this business, more

Have beenthere twice. Once to repair faulty "smog system" (I passed smog check after repair). During this service was told I had a broken motor mount and to have it fixed soon. A month later car front end began shaking. I brought it in thinking it may have something to do with the moter mount. It was not. I had the mount changedand he showed me the shaking cause...it was a bad tire (I was referred to a local tire shop..tire replaced..problem solved). On each visit I paid no more than the estimate which I had already decided was reasonable..Both times the work was performed in less time than promised..I now live in Hayward but will come back to Alameda because I like this shop. more
